Social networking and media tools offer students the opportunity to communicate
with others, get in touch, access information from the internet, research and chat. Social
media can be used for educational purposes but it may also lead to addiction and
depression.
Using social media accounts, people can express their feelings and emotions

youth are loss of privacy, sharing too much information, and disconnect from reality.”

because of the different articles, post, and other opinions of people that they read.
This study investigated on how social media influence the learnings of the

A Social networking site can be a good way to make connections with people

Victoria Rideout states that, among the younger generation, the time they spend

amount of time spent in school each year”. Using social media, students can multi-task
between all the different media they use. For example, they can be listening to music,
sending a tweet and also posting on Facebook. Rideout said that since social media is

One study a few years ago found that Facebook use was linked to both less moment-to-

According to Udorie (2015), ‟A new study has found that teenagers who engage

secondary school pupils will wake up at night and log on, just to make sure they don’t

METHODS OF RESEARCH
This chapter discussed the methods and techniques, population of the study,
research instruments, data gathering procedure, and data processing and statistical
treatment.
Descriptive survey method was used while conducting this research as the
research suggest. Descriptive research describes what is. It involves the description,
behaves or functions in the present. It often involves some type of comparison or contrast
(Manuel and Medel, p. 25). This method is the most appropriate to use to analyze,
describe and understand the influence of social media on the perceptions of the student
towards learning.
Three main purposes of research are to describe, explain, and validate findings.
Description emerges following creative exploration, and serves to organize the findings
in order to fit them with explanations, and then test or validate those explanations
(Krathwohl, 1993). Many research studies call for the description of natural or man-made
phenomena such as their form, structure, activity, and change over time, relation to other

Research Instruments
To gather all the data needed from the respondents, the researchers constructed a

second part was the checklist survey questionnaire that answers the questions of the

the findings for each research problem listed in the first chapter, and recommendations
Summary of findings
The following were the findings of the study based on the data collected:
1. Results of the study showed that all of the respondents have a social media
account of Facebook and Messenger. And the lowest number of person who used
these 3 social media accounts was Google, Gmail and Pixiv 1 person for each
account.
2. The results of the study showed that social media was used for communication
and other people. While 14 respondents answered that they are using social media
to communicate with their teachers and fellow students. But only one answered
3. According to the results, the study showed that most of the students only talk with
their classmates and sometimes they do their homework when the teacher leaved
them.
4. The result of the study showed that the students used social media for
entertainment, information and educational purposes. The results were high and
half of them used it all. It means that they can be entertained while they are using

proven in the study of Ellefsen et al., 2016 that Social media has its potential as an
educational tool that could improve student motivation and in-class participation levels.
Recommendations
As the researcher observed, teachers let students used social media in their time
because it is where they can find the files and the information that they need for their
subjects but some of the students didn’t have internet connection, it is recommended that
they must have an internet connection for all of the students that can only be used for
academic purposes.
The non-achievers should develop their knowledge on using social media because
27
As the researchers observed, many of those students take the chance to open their
social media accounts like Facebook every time the teacher told them to use their
cellphones for school purposes. Instead of learning the topics on their subject, they
focuses on their notifications and the posts on their timeline. It is recommended that the
teachers should lessen the use of social media in schooling and always took an eye to

JOURNAL
Before doing the actual paper in Practical Research 1, Mrs. Ma. Teresita G.
Calapis told us to do the reporting before proceeding to the actual research process to
ensure the quality of ideas we were going to present. On the reporting, we discuss about
our research problem, specific problem, the strength and weaknesses of our group, and
the challenges we might encounter while doing the paper. We present it using a visual aid
and do the peer editing. The other groups also present their own and we also do the same
way.
After all the groups finished the reporting, we are on our way on making the
Chapter 1 of our research paper. We read related literatures to define Social Networking
as a part of our Introduction. It gives us a hard time finding related literatures because we
have no library in the school. But then, thanks with the help of the Internet, it helps us to
gather relevant related literatures, studies and theories. Upon collecting related literatures,
studies and theories, we do the referencing using the APA (American Psychological
Association) formatting.
It was a sunny day when Jhon Webb, Micaella and I did the Chapter 1 of
research. This chapter includes the introduction, statement of the problem, significance of
the study and scope and delimitation. We also do it in our house because we need to pass
it to Ma’am Calapis as soon as possible. For the review of the related literature to be
accomplished, I, as a leader asked my members to search for the related literature, studies
and theories about our topic. For the chapter 2 we’ve read the related literature from the
internet because we don’t have a library here in our school. We had a struggle finding

Last November we did the draft of our research problem including the general and

January 2018 is our first defense. After that, the panels helped us to improve the
content of our research. For finding the answers to our questions in chapter 1, we gave a
checklist questionnaire to the Senior High Students of Dr. Pablito V. Mendoza Sr. High
School.
After the first defense we started to work on Chapter III, the Methods of
Research, which includes the methods and techniques, population of the study, research
instruments, data gathering procedure and the data processing and statistical treatment.
On the first day of our Practical Research 1, I do not know what is the meaning
and purpose why this subject is involve in the GAS Strand, but after our Practical
Research teacher Mrs. Ma. Teresita G. Calapis explain it to us, I know now that doing a
research is important by doing a research to the things you want to know. In the fast few
days after the discussion, our group tried to formulate problems that can be a good topic

My team leader assigned me to photocopy the survey form that is given to our

While doing a research, it takes a process we should follow in order to make the
paper we are doing clear to understand. While doing it, we always give time to finish it
even after the school hours. Being removed to the group is the one which I experienced
because that time I’m not helping them. But now, on our final defense I will join the
group for the second time and I promise that I will now help my groupmates to finish and
present it to our very best. We are preparing for our Final Defense and we are waiting for
this for a long time and finally we will now be able to present it.
My team leader assigned me to look for some related literature, studies and
theories about social media. At first, I find it difficult to get the information that I need.
So I asked my co-members on how to get the RRL and they told me to go to google
scholar because there are many related literatures that I can get. I also helped my
members in doing the referencing and citations using APA style. I suffered a lot in doing
this because I’m not familiar with it but I still coped up with them. I helped in doing the
