Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman: Histories, Realities and Potentials

The sad, surprising, unexpected and history-prone assassination of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib
and his grand family suggests that the great heroes, leaders , performers and celebrities of their
time don’t always receive warm welcome, recognition, consideration, sympathy and floral
wreath as perhaps they remain unfortunate for the natural and artificial causes and complexities
of their age.

Shakespeare truly opines, ‘Some are born great, some achieve greatness and, some have
greatness thrust upon them’. Was Sheikh Mujib really great? Has he achieved greatness? Has
greatness been imposed upon him? Or, was he a person of all or some of the combinations of the
three aspects?

This is the cruel and ruthless justice and justification of the impartial history where the great
actors and characters of history have been misled, misguided or unable to understand the
politics, tactics, complications, movements and interactions of the interplay of the puzzling and
conspiring facts, factors and characters of their time and beyond.

Sometimes, the great ones follow history, and historical characters despite the saddened
consequences of their dreamy heroes and consequently, they have become the victims of the
circumstances, as like as their beloved and followed ones since the visionary and revolutionary
leaders and heroes tend to be mercilessly assassinated, dethroned, defamed, decried and
humiliated in many parts of the world in the political, social, economic, cultural, regional,
religious, racial and other considerations.

If we, the common masses or the enlightened ones, can consider the assassination of Abraham
Lincoln, John F. Kennedy, Patrick Lumumba, Che Guevara, or other individual, familial,
communal or regional annihilation in light of history, the conscious, sensible, and rational ones
may obviously deduce and finalize that the historical or regional annihilation or assassination
occurred in the life of the freedom-demanding people and their leaders or the people who
struggle or strive to achieve a great cause according to them may be occurred by either some
tiny and trifle reasons or some great, complex cause and effect denominations.

Though Bangladesh didn’t face tremendous and exuberant degree of social, political, regional,
religious and racial rebellions, movements, revolts, revolutions or uprising in its history of far
past to present , it has been facing varying degrees of rebellions and revolts throughout its history
of a thousand year pro and against good and positive forces and factors.

The collective achievement of the prior revolts, rebellions, movements or uprising was and is
great and substantial since the Bengali people saw and have witnessed the victory from the
British rule in 1947 and the Pakistani rule in 1971.
There were momentary, partial and regional political, social, economic, religious or ethnic
success, facilitation or achievement the Bengali people have enjoyed over the centuries with
anxieties, hopes, aspirations and enthusiasm where the Bengali common masses have gone and
enjoyed their life and moments with social, economic, religious, political, regional or communal
ups and downs with moderate happiness and sorrow, opportunities and challenges, satisfaction
and dissatisfaction.

Greatly influenced by the Indian, British, Pakistani and other Asian, European or recent
American forces and populace throughout its history, the former delta and recent Bangladesh has
transformed into a multi-cultured, multi-lingual, multi-ethnic, multi-political reality in which
conflicting, complex and rarely determinable ideas, ideologies, mentality, philosophies, thoughts,
and opinions have been formed, reformed and deformed with the passage of time in the socio-
economic, socio-cultural, socio-religious and geo-political arena of this delta.

The conspiracy against, Nawab Sirajuddaula, the first free Nawab ( King) of this Bengal to
dethrone him jeopardizing the freedom and autonomy of the facts, factors and people of this area
was a common and familiar reality where Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib who dreamt, visualized,
led, continued and strengthened the true, time-honoured and long-cherished demands and
expectations of his people in his regular, trusted, visionary and enlightened efforts and initiatives
from his vivid early years to mournful sad demise of this good, honest, enlightened, inspiring,
idealistic and struggling great soul.

He was a man who was really conscious, vigilant, aware and knowledgeable of his nation, his
time, his history, his people and his world where he defined, philosophized, formed and
transformed the hopes, aspirations, expectations, anxieties, wonders and devotion of his time and
people to achieve a free, sovereign, and secure state preserving political, economic, religious,
ethnic, social, organizational and individual development and emancipation.

He was instrumental in diplomacy, leadership and responsibility to draw the attention and
recognition of the then Pakistani rulers in materializing the rising needs and demands of his
people during his long political career of regularity, foresight, struggle, imprisonment, hardship
and vision.

Though he was dynamic, active, prompt and enthusiastic in maintaining internal peace and
discipline and external friendly and cordial relationship with other supportive and less-supportive
countries, the time after the liberation of Bangladesh was tremendously indeterminable, erratic,
haphazard and full of indiscipline, corruption, vandalism and mismanagement where he and his
beloved extended family were a victim of sorrowful, unprecedented, incredible and surprising
assassination on 15 August, 1975.

The time after his sorrowful and ruthless demise was also full of destructive indiscipline,
haphazardness, rebellion and tumultuousness for couple of years and Bangladesh had to suffer
and struggle hard to preserve its independence and continue its regularity, discipline and flow of
the life of its people and their activities.

After the dreadful annihilation of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib and his beloved family, the next
decades followed not only traumatic situations, autocracy, rise of terrorism, extreme corruption,
unemployment and other socio-economic, socio-political , socio-cultural, regional-international,
socio-religious complexities and complications , but also initiatives, attempts, endeavour, and
struggle of restoring discipline, regularity and coherence in all the spheres of struggling
Bangladesh especially in establishing and preserving democratic, religious, economic, social,
ethnic, political, cultural, national and international values, rights, recognition, honour and co-
existence in the guise of either democracy or autocracy.

How Bangladesh received Sheikh Mujib after his demise was very dreadful, horrifying and
astonishing as he was totally forbidden, feared and neglected by the ruling parties and other
dominant and powerful invisible hands and authorities who facilitated and directly or indirectly
caused to assassinate him where his party followers, his devotees, his local and foreign partners,
his well-wishers and particularly his country people became tremendously devoid of direction,
sense, power, responsibility and guidance.

When his long-served political party Awami League came back into power in 1996, 2008, 2014
and recently 2018 led by his survived daughter Sheikh Hasina and other veteran politicians, they
initiated and struggled to re-establish his image as the leading political figure in this history of
Bangladesh and one of the leading achievers of political independence in the history of this delta.

The initiatives, endeavour, attempts and struggle undertaken by him have been revived after
long-periods of his demise where he has been fairly and considerably recognized, discussed,
respected by his recently dominated party followers in the political arena and both criticized and
honoured by his opponents and other parties of opposition and non-government.

The recent political condition of Bangladesh is considerably stable and devoid of competitive
political parties where the country has been freed from political riots, unrest and strikes. Besides,
Bangladesh is now a economically developing country which has been improved in some of the
socio-economic variables like reduction of poverty, fulfillment of food production, reduction of
maternal and child mortality rate , gradual increase of per capita income and foreign currency
reserve , improvement in the expansion of export sector ,especially its remarkable achievement
in the RMG ( Ready-made Garment) sector , improvement in health, education, medication,
financial and non-financial budding, emerging and thriving sectors in Bangladesh.

Bangladesh has been exploring its foreign relationship and markets in the other countries of the
world where the goodwill of Bangladesh is satisfactory and expanding in sports like cricket, in
infrastructural development across the country, in the quality and quantity of press media, in the
number of educational institutions and their quality, in the properly established banking industry
and its sustained performance, in the formation of economic base and expansion with limitations
and potentials and so on.

However, Mr. Sheikh Mujib shouldn’t and mustn’t be absurdly, unreasonably and unnecessarily
preached, propagated, forced, represented and visualized among the different stakeholders of
Bangladesh and other nations where the authorities concerned and the people of Bangladesh
should preserve patience, tolerance, temperament, maturity, personality, responsibility and
professionalism to preserve and continue his vision and activities to the future generations.

The unimaginable, unexpressed, indescribable , destructive and tremendous wound, pain, blood
and sacrifice happened in the life of the great leader of Bangladesh , Bangabandhu Sheikh
Mujibur Rahman, his beloved family and particularly his countrymen should be repented, healed
and restructured considering the positive and negative historical aspects where Bangladesh and
its people may plainly, peacefully, and respectfully utter the good , great and sublime
contribution and sacrifice of Mr. Sheikh Mujibur Rahman , his departed family and other martyrs
of the history of the freedom of Bangladesh.
