Instructional problem scenario: You have graduated from college and have just

accepted a position at your dream job. A few months into working at your job
your boss/supervisor/principal comes to you with a project to complete. She/he
mandates that the end product fully utilizes the skills you have in digital
applications and technology. You want to impress your boss/supervisor/principal
so you get right to work. The first thing that you need to submit is an overview of
what you plan to do. Use the following bullet points to write a 5 paragraph project
plan. You get to make up the project you are completing for your dream job.

The project that I have been assigned to complete is a system that we can use to
track and report our office’s overall education and training program. This means
identifying and documenting who is fully qualified, who still requires training to be fully
qualified, upcoming conferences or in-person training and their costs, as well as
projecting any future training needs. The technologies that I will be using for this
tracking and reporting system are excel, PowerPoint, and Google documents.

The first technology I’ll be using is excel. Excel is a product that allows you to input
and track data by using manual inputs or formulas you’ve set up. I’ll use excel to track
and organize all the data for the education and training program. The excel part of the
product will have a tab for each area of the program that I’m overseeing. As my co-
workers accomplish training or get certified on tasks, I’ll update the corresponding sheet
in excel. Towards the end, I might add color coded formulas. For example, making cells
red when someone goes overdue on their training or making cells green with bold text
when someone becomes fully qualified.

The second technology I’ll be using is PowerPoint. PowerPoint is a product that

allows you to turn your information into a presentation. I’ll use PowerPoint to transfer a
condensed version of my excel information onto slides to keep everyone in our office up
to date on our education and training program. The PowerPoint part of the product will
have a slide for each area of the program, just like the excel product. I’ll update these
slides weekly with everyone’s information and I’ll brief the stats at our staff meeting to
ensure we’re all on the same page. After conducting these briefings for a while, I might
insert graphs or charts into my Powerpoint to show how much progress we’ve made in
our education and training program since we began using this new system.

The third technology that I’ll be using is Google documents. I’ll use Google
documents to provide my co-workers with an area of the product that they can use too. I
will keep these documents on our share drive to allow them to sign training sign-in
sheets on their own time, request funding for upcoming conferences, and identify
classes that they would be interested in for the future. I would create Google documents
for anything they could provide input on. I would know who said what, and when. I
would have a specific document for requesting funding so whenever I had to calculate
projected funds I only need to go to one place. The same goes for requesting future
conferences or classes, everyone would have one place to go so no ones needs or
ideas would slip through the cracks. By the end, I would have a Google document for
each area of our program that could benefit from employee input.
Overall, I’ve created a system to enhance our education and training program. It is a
one stop shop for everything my boss would like to see. The end product shows how far
we’ve come over the past few months and has projections for where we’re going as
well. Technology enhanced this education and training tracking system by making our
data organized. This organization assisted me with giving my boss accurate briefings
each week while keep my co-workers in the loop and giving them a voice in the training
program. This system will continue to benefit our office because we now have solid
products to run our program and we are no longer wasting time trying to re-invent the
wheel. The technology used, rather it was formulas or templates, makes us more
efficient by cutting down on prepping time. This gives us more time to do our actual
work!
