The author assumes that since organizations engaged in color-film processing were able to increase efficiency and

cut-down costs over a period of 25 years; same must be true of Olympic Foods, which is about to celebrate its 25
anniversary. The arguments is based on questionable assumptions and weak analogies and appears to be a result of
a hasty generalization.

The main problem with the author¶s reasoning is the weak analogy he develops between the two ³processing´
industries. One fails to see any logical connection between the two and the author makes no effort to show the
connection either. The two industries are too dissimilar to be compared. For example: frozen food industry faces
problem of storage, transportation, contamination etc; no similar problems are observed in the film-processing
industry. Even the markets for the two differ widely. The argument could have been strong if the author could show
the missing connection or if he had compared the frozen-food industry with a similar industry.

Also the author fails to recognize that it¶s not the number of years of experience that matters; what actually matters is
what is learnt over all those years. An industry may mature over a couple of years, yet another may remain stagnant
even after 25 years. The color-film industry people may have tremendous learnings that may have contributed to the
cost-reduction; but the report shows no evidence of Olympic Foods doing the same.

Another point that the author misses completely is that there may be factors other than just the expertise and
experience gained over the mentioned period. For example: developments in technology may have resulted in the
cost-reduction for the color-film processing industry. The author could have strengthened his stand by showing that
it¶s merely the increased efficiency that has brought costs down. He could have also chosen to highlight similar
developments in the food-processing industry too.

To sum, the author¶s conclusion doesn¶t appear to be convincing at all. The author could have made it a bit
persuasive by presenting the evidence mentioned above. Without these, the argument is weak and fails to impress
the reader.

1. The following appeared as part of an annual report sent to stockholders by Olympic Foods, a processor
of frozen foods. ³Over time, the costs of processing go down because as organizations learn how to do
things better, they become more efficient. In color film processing, for example, the cost of a 3-by-5-inch
print fell from 50 cents for five-day service in 1970 to 20 cents for one-day service in 1984. The same
principle applies to the processing of food. And since Olympic Foods will soon celebrate its twenty-fifth
birthday, we can expect that our long experience will enable us to minimize costs and thus maximize
profits.´

The author concluded that with long experience of 25 years, Olympic foods will be able to maximize
profits and minimize costs because the processing cost has gone down in color film industry. The line of
reasoning is that the same approach in film processing industry should be applicable to the other
industries. This argument is not sound, however, because it is not necessary that same thing would
happen to food industry. It depends upon many other factors.
Firstly, the argument assumed that the color film industry is similar to food industry. One must not forget
that an Olympic food is an industry for frozen foods or perishable products. These products require fast
transportation and special equipments in order to keep fresh or the entire stock will get junked. These
requirements can claim substantial costs and it is very likely that they can never be cut. One the other
hand, color film is a consumer product which stays much longer and is not perishable. Therefore, it is
possible that the cost-cutting approach is not applicable to the food industry.

Secondly, the author failed to address other factors that are important to a company¶s success. It is well
known that in the long run maximization of profits occurs due to low cost of production. But it¶s not the
only factor they consider. Other factors such as demand for the product, selling price, and overall
competition in the market should also be taken into consideration. Today, buyers become the king in the
market. If other companies¶ products are available at lower price with same quality or at similar price with
higher quality, then people don¶t buy the Olympic¶s product. Therefore, if most consumers choose other
companies¶ products, then the objects of higher profits and lower cost can¶t be attained.

Finally, the speaker did not include any information on Olympic management approach. Rather, it just
mentioned the long experience of 25 years in food industry. While there is rough correlation between long
experience and ability to maximize profit, it is not always the case. If the Olympic fails to accumulate
valuable management experience, such as time-consuming strategic alliance, learning from failure, etc,
then Olympic long experience will not enable it to minimize costs and thus maximize profits

In sum, the argument is not compelling because it omitted many other factors that must be addressed in
order to make proper conclusion. If the author has considered the difference between color film and food
industry, selling price, and product quality, the argument would be more convincing.

10. The following appeared in the editorial section of a local newspaper. ͞This past winter, 200
students from Waymarsh State College traveled to the state capitol building to protest against
proposed cuts in funding for various state college programs. The other 12,000 Waymarsh students
evidently weren͛t so concerned about their education: they either stayed on campus or left for
winter break. Since the group who did not protest is far more numerous, it is more representative of
the state͛s college students than are the protesters. Therefore the state legislature need not heed
the appeals of the protesting students.͟ Discuss how well reasoned . . . Etc.

The article concludes that the state legislature does not need to consider the positions of protesting
students. To support this argument, the author cited that only 200 of the 12,000 students traveled to
the state capitol to claim their concerns on the proposed cuts in college programs. The remaining
students do not participate in this protest and therefore are not interested in this issue. The
argument is not convincing for the following two reasons.

First, the author assumes that because less than one-tenth of the students participated in the
protest, only less than one-tenth of the students proposed against the funding cut programs. This
assumption is questionable since if the protesting students were selected randomly from the entire
student body, their views would correctly reflect the views of the entire college. Without further
information regarding the way by which the protesting students were selected, it is questionable to
conclude that their opinions fail to reflect the opinions of their colleagues.

Second, the author points out that the other 12,000 students stayed on campus or left for winter
break and concludes that they are not concerned on fund-cutting program. The line of reasoning is
not solid because there may be other reasons that they did not participate. For example, they
probably think their opinions will be expressed by the protesting students. Without addressing why
the remaining 12,000 students did not attend the campaign, the argument that the remaining 12,000
students are not concerned about their education is unacceptable.

In conclusion, the argument is neither sound nor convincing. To make it logically acceptable, the
author should point out what is the point of view of the remaining 12,000 students.

͞Corporations should look to the city of Helios when seeking new business opportunities or a new
location. Even in the recent recession, Helios͛s unemployment rate was lower than the regional average.
It is the industrial center of the region, and historically it has provided more than its share of the region͛s
manufacturing jobs. In addition, Helios is attempting to expand its economic base by attracting
companies that focus on research and development of innovative technologies.͟

The above argument seems to be misdirected. The fact that the city of Helios has a lower than average
unemployment rate and that it is and has been a historical industrial center would be a good line of
argument for attracting people to come settle in Helios. 

If this was the main thrust of the argument it would be well received. Such an argument would be
further empowered by the fact that the city is on the lookout for fresh economic initiatives. 



However from an industry͛s stand point the author does not provide pertinent information. When a
company looks to new locations for expansion or for new projects, what weighs heavily in the decision
making process are factors which do not find mention in the author͛s argument. For example- industry
would be concerned about infrastructure facilities. How good are the roads and trains and maybe even
air transport facilities? How advanced are the communications supported by the area? What is the
power position? What are the norms or regulations which need to be adhered to before a new industry
can be set up? If there any tax benefits extended to the company? 



Industry also requires manpower. The presence of such skills in the labor force as that industry requires
often becomes a crucial factor in decision making. Viewed from this angle the above argument actually
goes against the purpose. A high unemployment rate would mean a smaller pool of easily available work
force. 





If the argument was aimed at bringing R&D companies to Helios, this labor aspect becomes all the more
critical. R&D facilities in innovative technologies usually require personnel with high qualifications. While
such personnel may be available in Helios, the author makes no mention of them. 



Considering all these aspects I find that the argument does not provide compelling evidence and is
inconclusive.

I completely agree that one͛s achievements are more important than his or her personal faults
especially when he or she achieves greatness in some field. A lot of people are born and then they die
after spending a span of time on earth. But there are very few people who leave their everlasting marks
on the sands of time, which pushes the life of the other people on this earth forward. It is this capability
of those few people͛s achievements that gives us the courage to face the realities of life every day. I
believe that such people͛s achievements are definitely more important than their failures due to the
following reasons.

Firstly, there is no doubt that when someone achieves something great in any field, it shows a new path
to the whole world. Sometimes, these paths are so strong that they change the course of the current
world. For example, let us consider Abraham Lincoln. He changed the course of American history with
the abolition of the slavery. It is his greatness that people in America are better people than anyone in
this world today. Similarly, Mahatma Gandhi changed the course of Indian history with his beliefs on
truth and non-violence. It is due to his sheer will that made the whole country run for the struggle of
Independence unanimously. People like Dhirubhai Ambani led the Indian business to a new level by
bringing Economic Liberalization in the country in early 1990Xs. Narayan Murthy has led the country into
a new blend of truth and ethics while creating one of the most successful IT services companies of thew
world ʹ Infosys. People like Thomas Elva Edison gave a new direction to the lives of people and science
with his invention of Electric bulb.

Secondly, it is the achievements of the successful people that gives inspiration and motivation to the
younger generation for more new innovations. One cannot ignore the fact that it is the failures that
make the ordinary lives of great people extraordinary. But it is their achievements that draw people to
look into their lives do closely to draw inspirations from. For example, even though Edison was thrown
out of his class citing poor intellectuals, he went on to become a great scientist. Similarly, Abaraham
Linclon failed miserably in his business and other ventures before going on to become one of the
greatest leaders of the world and most influential President in American history. The point here is that
we know the past of these successful persons only because they rose to become successful person and
leaders in this world at some point of their lives. It is their achievements that took us to go into their
past.

Due to the above said reason, I agree with the opinion stated earlier that a person͛s achievements are
more important than his or her personal faults.

Montoya. Assuming that Montoya is a very capable person but still he might not have been able to

Secondly, the possibility of a bleak and weak economy during the tenure of Montoya would have been
responsible for the dubious results of performance. Economy might have been very weak and fragile
throughout the country or world, which would have touched the residents of San Perdito too. A
possibility of such a global phenomenon can hardly be ignored unless further information of the
economic scenario is given for comparison.

Last but not the least, the editorial section lacks concrete data and figures to compare the population
and unemployment rate during the tenures of Montoya and Varro. One needs further solid figures to
come to any conclusion of good tenure of Varro compared to Montoya.

Due to the many holes in the reasoning in the arguments of the report, it is difficult to take the
arguments seriously. Unless further evidence surface in each of the areas discussed above, the given
premises are insufficient proof that the conclusion drawn is viable.

There is a well-said saying in the film industry that movies of couple hours in theatres is what makes it a
success or failure but it is the talent and hard work of the artists involved in the project that make them
a mega-star in future. I would like to bring the same analogy here too. Though, the final product of an
enterprise becomes the face of the enterprise in the world market but the process of making or doing
something within the enterprise is what makes it a truly great enterprise to survive the ups and downs
of the market.

On one hand, one can never ignore the importance of a product for an enterprise. A product is generally
like an infant baby for the enterprise that carries its name and fame forward. It becomes a true family
member of that enterprise. Its importance lies not only in its capability of boosting the revenues of the
company but also in bringing fame and name to the company in case the product is a success or else
shows the problems that makes it a failure so as to put the enterprise in the right direction. For
example, how can one ignore the importance of product ͞COKE͟ to Coca Cola Company?

On the other hand, we cannot ignore the importance of the process of making or doing something in the
enterprise. The liberty of making or doing something unique and interesting is what makes its
employees satisfied. No one in this world can make an enterprise successful with only one individual. An
enterprise needs a lot of talented and innovative people to carry their tasks with no ties and boundaries.
If employees and people attached to the company are happy, then the enterprise can make good and
competitive quality products with lot of love and innovation. For example, one cannot ignore the
satisfaction level of the employees of IBM that makes the company attract the best of the talents so as
to keep on with its brand image as top most patent file owner year after years.

Additionally, it is the process and working style of an enterprise that makes an enterprise to attract right
talent that could make its brand name more popular with his new and unique ideas, And this is what
that can make the enterprise ride through the tough times of the industry.
Hence, even though the importance of the final product cannot be ignored, the real image of an
enterprise is to attract the right and innovative talents while keeping the current talent intact to run
long in the race of this competitive global market.

Keeping private lives and personal activities separate from the workplace is one of the critical question
that is posed by recent work scenarios. Good work-life balance is one of the top priorities of every
employee to become successful in every organization. To analyze the whole scenario, the following
points should be taken into consideration.

At the very outset, one cannot ignore that both personal life and work life have to find its place in 24-
hour time frame. There is bound to have some intersection and avoiding it is not only tough but also
almost impossible for any individual to ignore. How many times have we noticed a school teacher
putting his anger on our school kids for no reason? Additionally, studies have shown repeatedly that

change in few hours. There are instances when after feeling depressed with personal issues; one hardly

office to work. It is impossible to imagine for such a guy to give his full capability and talent to his work. I
guess, for such reasons, corporations have recreation, leave and various fun activities to ease the
pressure of work and just relax to boost the productivity, thereby, doing tons of good to the employee,
company and its products.
On the other hand, remember ͞Work is Workship͟. When we take up a job, it is our moral responsibility
to look that we do our job irrespective of what is happening in our personal lives. We, human beings,
are emotional creatures. It is very tough to control our emotions but that is what is expected of adults,
when they grow up. We, as adults, need to be mature enough to handle such things. Else there will not
be any difference between adults and kids. No one in this world can get rid of their daily problems and
issues forever. A lot of people can be found to be dissatisfied with their nature of work and their life but
still they go on. And people who deal with such catastrophic situations of life, act matured enough to
overcome them, hold onto their dreams, can only succeed in this world.

Based on above discussions, even though it is very tough to separate the personal life from the
workplace, we are responsible to act mature enough so as to affect the working professional life
completely.

I completely agree with the above said argument that the international community should replace the

coins can help to preserve the metals and papers, thus aiding in the spread of go green campaigns.

On the other hand, we cannot ignore the possibility of security threats attached with the electronic
accounts. For example, there are numerous cases filed for the cheat and fraud in the bank accounts over
the Internet n the last decade. How can one possibly ignore the famous scene from the Hollywood
movie, Entrapment, where the protagonists transfer a big amount by intruding the computers system to
steal the money on the New Year eve? Imagining such an incident in reality can leave anyone͛s nerve
chilling. Thus, proper stringent measures of security should be ensured and stringent government laws
should back them for heavy punishment for the guilty.

Additionally, some parts of the world are not so advanced enough to embrace such advanced
technologies as computers such as Africa and so on. In such a scenario, we should take adequate
precautions that may not leave the backward countries completely isolated from the world community.

Therefore, even though it will be really advantageous for the international community to adapt the
system of electronic accounts, proper precautions should be taken to handle its shortcomings as
discussed earlier.

Give a poor man a fish one day and you feed him for one day. Make the same person learn fishing and
you can feed him for all his life. This famous saying applies here also. I agree with the above said opinion
that the best way of advising people is to find what they want in life and help them living it but the

Firstly, most of us are not successful because we are not worthy of it but we are confused as if what we
are looking toward to have in our lives. We take life as it comes to us. We restrain ourselves from
weighing our options. In fact, many finings have shown that most of us cannot write down 10 things that
we want out of our lives even if we are given ample time to do so. The similar scenario is applicable
when we go to buy consumer products like soap, toothpaste and many more.

Secondly, what people might think to be the best for us, may not be the best for us. Generally, we are
molded by our parents in a certain way. For example, I was always said not to watch English movies as
they are bad, in my childhood. It was until my college days when things changed. I realized that what we
see in our movies are something real, things which we can relate to in our daily lives. So, if what Sex is
shown in movies. After all, don͛t we accept Sex as the integral act of nature in our bedrooms and hence,
there is no harm in showing sex in movies too.

Lastly, sometimes people hide their true self. The reason may be society and many more. In such a
scenario, it is very difficult to know what a person truly wants. But if someone knows it, then advising
and guiding him to realize his dream is definitely the best form of advice one can give.

Therefore, I believe that knowing the wants of a human being, even by the person himself, is the most
difficult thing but if this can be figured out, then helping the person in living his want or dream is the
most valuable advice the other person can give

unconvincing as generally people cannot be expected to exercise regularly. Additionally, people opting
for Aspartame may be just looking for dietary control without exercising. In such a case, discarding the
use of Aspartame may be really foolish.

People define success in various terms. Some associate it with wealth, some with life, work, social
status, recognition, fame and many more. In my view, the way one leads his life defines whether he/she
is successful. I believe in it due to the following reasons.
Firstly, defining success on materialistic terms is the most foolish and absurd thing. A person, who is
richer today, may not be rich tomorrow. History has shown enough examples in this respect from time
to time. For example, when multi-billion companies like Lehman Brothers of 150 odd year͛s history
collapsed in the current financial global meltdown, it brought enough of high earning executives and
billionaire investors to their knees. Similarly, it was shocking to know when a top fashion model of India
died on the streets of Delhi last year or top-Bollywood actress of 19u0͛s, Parveen Babi, died in her closed
apartment, the news of her death going unnoticed in her flat for 2 days.

Secondly, more than getting recognition and fame, the real success is holding onto it and it can be done
only with sheer hard work and sincerity. And these two generally come when people do what they love
to do. They should enjoy each moment of their life. If one cannot love what he/she is doing in his daily
life, then it would be very difficult for him to drag on and sustain that life at all, eventually either giving
up or succumbing to its pressure, resulting in a dull, unsuccessful, terrible life not only for him but also
for her family.

Last but not the least, it is the way that an individual tries to live his life that defines him in his true self.
Successful people like Mahatma Gandhi, Edison, and Abraham Lincoln led their lives in their own terms
that made them great, successful and immortal forever.

Due to the above said reasons, I strongly believe that success is all about living a life in own terms and
the way we want to live it, rather not that the circumstances force onto us.

I completely agree that all groups and organizations should function as teams rather than giving a single
person the entire authority. But to analyze the statement, we need to be more realistic and consider the
following points before drawing a viable conclusion.

Firstly, teams are always more creative in their functioning. Every person thinks in a certain manner and
it is natural for him to be bias to follow his thinking only. In such a scenario, he/she, if given central
authority, thinks in doing a certain task in a single particular way only, which may not necessarily be the
best way to do the task. On the other hand, teams can discuss and share the thoughts and ideas to
finally adopt the best one among them or some combination of them. In this way, teams can be more
creative and innovative.

Secondly, a project or task can be carried in a more efficient and better way than an individual can do. It
is a well-known fact that dividing a bigger task into smaller tasks makes it to be more clear and easier to
accomplish, thus, making the duration of the course generally faster. For example, while a single person
may take a couple of days to paint a room, the same can be accomplished by a group in a couple of
hours. Similarly, suppose if an individual is carrying out an important project and unexpectedly, he
meets with an unfortunate accident, then the whole project gets stalled or dead unless someone else
takes it to either start all over again or take some time to understand what has already been done,
which might result in great loss of time and revenue to the organization.

Lastly, while the importance of a team cannot be ignored, at the same time, it is very necessary that
someone should be able to lead a team, taking the responsibility that the team works in a right direction
towards achieving its goal in the desired frame of time. For example, even though a team may be
responsible for a certain project, an individual can lead a team for its accountability to their superiors,

Restraint in use of power is the most powerful weapon of the powerful people. I completely agree with
the statement due to the following reasons.

Firstly, powerful people in the past have shown that by using their power in a constructive way, one can
achieve extraordinary impossible things in their lifetime. They can not only bring a change in themselves
but also drive a new revolution towards a better world. For example, Mahatma Gandhi rose to become
a powerful person during the freedom struggle of India. After getting the appeal from the masses, he
would have resorted to violence but he continued his struggle on the lines of non-violence, which
showed the world that violence is not the only way of making things happen. Similarly, the great Ancient
King of India, Ashoka, was initially ruthless to win land with his powerful army until he realized his
mistake of mass murder and destruction and later made extraordinary ever-lasting developments in the
society bringing prosperity and fame not only for his kingdom but also for himself.
Secondly, on the other hand, people like Napoleon and Hitler have shown that with their ruthless use of
power, resulting in the two world wars, they can push the whole world into a deep crisis of suffering.
They showed that how much damage power can cause by showing off the power in a wrong way.

Lastly, comparing the use of power in modern times, imagine a CEO of a company taking and reaping all
the benefits of a company, hardly willing to share and always commanding rather than listening. Such a
CEO can demoralize an employee of that company, bringing bad fame and name not only for himself but
also for the company. On the other hand, people like Narayana Murthy have shown how to balance
power with dignity, resulting in the creation of one of the top notch companies in the world.

Based on the above evidences and examples, one can say that restraint in the use of power and using it
in constructive and meaningful purposes is the best weapon of the powerful people and such an

Imagine a company whose CEO dies suddenly and it cannot find a suitable person to replace him within

culture and environment of the new company, before he can become a responsible CEO.

To analyze whether individual nations need to make the sacrifices independently or with international
leadership and worldwide cooperation to conserve energy, one needs to first analyze the below
mentioned circumstances on how the world can be currently categorized to handle such a delicate issue.

Firstly, the world can be divided into developed, developing and under-developed countries. Developed
countries use enormous amount of energy to sustain their consumer demands and keep the pace of
their economy on the roads of growth. For, example, USA consumes almost a quarter of the fuel energy
resources despite having a very small percentage of the population of the world. Developing countries
like India and China, have almost half of the world͛s population, try to meet their ever increasing
demand to catch up the developed countries and hence, are more resistant to adopt the changes
necessary to conserve energy. Under-developed countries like African countries, lagging in technology
and reeling under poverty can hardly feed themselves daily adequately, so it is foolish to expect
anything from them. In such a scenario, it is tough to accept that these countries will make,
independently, the sacrifices to conserve energy; rather they may try to be more selfish and
conservative according to their environments and demands.

Secondly, with international leadership and cooperation, a unified code of law can be adopted by all
abiding nations. These laws can later be extended to other poorer countries with the aid and hep of
powerful nations to adopt their growing economies to the energy demand properly. Probably, the
approach like that of CTBT and Nuclear treaties, that helped in bringing down the nuclear arms race
among nations and enhance cooperation in the development nuclear technologies for the mankind like
that of the electricity, can be very useful in conserving energy too. Additionally, to abide by such a law,
the timeline should be appropriately decided depending on the state of the country like developed
countries like USA can abide quickly as soon as possible while poorer African countries can be given
sufficient time to abide, in turn not affecting their growth.

Though one cannot ignore the importance of conserving energy for our future with frequent alarms of
global warming, the realistic way of achieving the goal is to have a unified global code of law, which

Censoring the television and radio programs for offensive language and behavior in some countries is a
very delicate issue. The following aspects of it need to be analyzed properly before coming to conclusion
whether such an act is valid.

Firstly, freedom of speech and expression is assumed to be a fundamental right in almost every country
in the world. When people are not prohibited to protest against the system, corruption and governance,
there is no reason why certain true aspects of the society cannot be depicted in the television and radio
programs. Additionally, it is up to an individual to decide and judge his own rights and wrongs rather
than being controlled as an individual can grow his identity more strongly when he acts consciously of
his own.

Secondly, television and radio programs generally are close to the true depictions of daily happenings in
our society. As an example, 70Xs programs were based on characters like that of Godfather when US was
reeling under the mafia and underworld. Hence, the fact that the depictions in the program are real or
close to real, cannot be ignored.

Thirdly, moral involvement with the excessive depiction of sex and violence in the television and radio
programs is one the reasons that those programs should be censored from viewing the minors and
immature individuals. But then such programs can always be moved out of the prime time and can be
instructed to be viewed under strict parental guidance.

Last but not the least; we cannot ignore the importance of the media in the spreading awareness in very
sensitive issues like terrorism, AIDS, teenage pregnancy and sex. Because this is the only way that
individuals can be made aware of the issues and problems of the world, which may wipe out our future
generations, if not taken care of properly. So what if the attack of the Mumbai massacre was shown live
on television for 40 odd hours. At least people saw and understood the empathy of the people caught in
the brutal murder in the name of religion.

Hence, the television and radio programs should be censored but very carefully so that the whole goal
and motivation of spreading awareness through communication media like television should not get
jeopardized. Moreover, certain programs thought of being unsuitable for children can always be
instructed to be viewed under strict parental guidance and can be moved out from prime time.

I believe that Goethe͛s statement has far reach real-life applicability rather than just being an idealistic
nonsense due to the following three reasons.
Firstly, interaction is the important key to the communication in today͛s world. People interact almost
24 hrs. in a day from home to workplace to shopping malls. Treating the people as they are makes them
realize their value and gives the pride of being an essential part of one͛s life, which in turn, helps in
doing their respective jobs happily. Imagine a family where the husband refuses to acknowledge the
sacrifices of his wife to run his family better, sometimes at the cost of her career.

Secondly, treating people according to their capability makes them know their true worth and hidden
talents. For example, Indian Bollywood star Govinda, was once a vendor seller selling vegetables while
dancing and singing to the famous songs simultaneously. People used to enjoy his way of selling stuffs,
unless a famous film director, eventually ending up as a top Bollywood actor and now a responsible
MLA, spotted him.

Thirdly, treating people of what they are helps in creating a friendly environment. If one would respect a
daily sweeper of his commitment to keep the roads clean, the sweeper will be satisfied that people
around him respects him and worth of his job.

Therefore, for all the above said reasons, I agree that one should treat people of what they can be and
what their importance is, which can eventually help in a calm and happy prosperous living environment.

comes both with some great benefits and drawbacks. The multinational corporations bring a great diversity in their
culture with the economic development of the developing countries.

We will consider the case of India to strike out the examples of each point. First of all, we cannot deny the fact that
the multinational corporations bring economic development as observed in India, with India becoming a major
economic superpower now in just more than a decade after liberalization achieving about u growth every year
now. At the same time, they bring the notion of an attitude to do business in the global arena. For example, when
Indian companies were doing business only in India, now companies like TATA are becoming more global with
acquisitions of Corus, Land Rover and many more. Thirdly, they bring a change in the culture of doing business by
introducing the nature of risk-taking attitude, accepting responsibilities and making commitments to them and
thus, dare to follow their dreams to become successful Entrepreneurs like Narayana Murthy of Infosys. Hence,
they make people more open-minded and view a same thing in various different angles and then, not only criticize
but also appreciate them, if needed.

At the same time, Western culture like that of America brings some too much openness mindset, which contradicts
the prevailing tradition of a developing country like India. As talking about Sex, losing virginity before marriage and
controversial topics like same-sex marriages is strictly a ͞NO͟ in the Indian society, the Western culture puts the
whole society in a chaos mindset. While younger generation seems to accept it, the older generation still fights
with such topics and ultimately, creating an environment of a generation gap and miscommunication and
misunderstandings among the blood relations. At one point, it generates awareness but at the same time,
exposing the young generation to too much sex and violence turns out to be as spiritual spoilsport in developing
countries like India. Sometimes, such scenarios result in extreme form of lust, thereby increasing the rate of crimes
like rape, sexual assault and many more, resulting in more exploitation of feminine gender. The cross-religious
beliefs also play chaos. As changing and believing religions become more acceptable, it sometimes results in
dangerous riots killing innocent people.

As the famous quote of the Shiv Khera-authored book ͞You can Win͟ goes- ͞Winners are those who do similar
things differently rather than doing the different things similarly͟, it holds true in the day-to day activities of the
people. It͛s the attitude and approach that defines the next generation of creativity and innovation rather than
traditional rules.

The Japanese model, while consulting people or calling a conference on trivial things, helps in doing things in the
right and fool-proof way to the maximum extent possible. For example, let us consider a scenario where we can
compare both the scenarios at ease. Lets say a software company gets a project for developing software for its
specific daily business need. Now, the duration of the project could be 1-year or could extend to a certain period of
time. The success of the software depends on the successful implementation of the first version of the software
that the company releases for its customer. Now, following Japanese model, constant feedback and consultation
of the client, helps the company to understand the needs of the client much better and develop in the most
efficient way. It helps in removing the unnecessary redundancies that may arise in future due to wrong
interpretation of the client needs. Lets say, the initial part of the software has been developed but if the GUI of the
system does not meet the client expectations, then the developed software goes to thrash. The GUI should be
done in consult with the client, which makes the software usable by the client with the least investment possible.
As for another example, the people might be able to think differently on the same ideas with the consultation and
thus eventually, will be more innovative and creative. Normally, when people from various backgrounds come
together, they form an idea, which can revolutionize and this is possible, only when they exchange ideas. The
whole process might be bit time consuming, but it has the potential of creating innovations and drive successful
business.

On the other hand, Indians follow the traditional rule-base model. It is much faster than the usual Japanese model
but it lacks attitude to be different. Imagine a courseware where everything is defined, say a guy goes to the
school, read the specific chapters of the book and mugs up the texts to answer the questions. The ideas cannot
flow from one person to another if the group assignments and activities cease. Lets take the same above example,
it may be possible that the software company can take the usual software engineering process to develop the
software but what if some of the components don͛t meet the requirements of the changing business scenarios for
the client, as the whole process could take years, where there is no guarantee for the requirements of the clients
to remain as it is as it was when the company bagged the project of the client.
Rules confines the thinking capability to a certain extent but it is beyond the rules, where the next generation of
the world stands with new changes, challenges and thoughts. This world can only be seen when people share and
consult, even on the trivial things, to look at it in a more broader way
