Case Study:

Mr. Raman is the sales manger of the company. He has 25 employees in his
department and all the employees are paid commission for their sales in
their territories. For the past three yrs, majority of employees meet the
needs or the goals for the market very effectively as the company need,
but Mr. Krishnan is unable to keep with that pace of steady growth of
sales by department. He is the employee of 56 yrs and he has been with
the company since 36 yrs. He is friendly man and liked by his colleagues
and also his satisfied with his way of services or handling his customers.
But because of his age he is unable to maintain the pace of sale. Raman
wants to motivate him to match the pace with his younger peers. But
majority of the employees think that he is now aged to do that work.

Q1 Would you threaten to fire him?


Ans: - Threaten to fire him will be left a negative impact on other
employees. Because everyone know that he is very hard worker and very
loyal and honest toward his work and company and he is aged now not able
to work like his younger colleagues but it means not that we will threat
him, the sales manger have to motivate him so he will be motivate and will
give his best to the corporation.

Q2 Would you increase the commission?


Ans: - Money will be motivate a person because people of Krishna’s age
are more possessive about their saving for their future. But if they will
give him more commission as compare to others will be leave a negative
impact on others , so this not right way to motivate him .

Q3 Would you increase the retirement benefits for Krishnan rather than
offer him increased commission rate?
Ans: - We will motivate him by increase the retirement benefits for
Krishna rather than offer him increased commission rate, but it depends
upon that what is the value of the incentives offered by management to
him. Sometimes it may be work or not because it depends on the
psychology of the person and the order of his needs.
Q4 Would you offer him more status by way of new title or a new car or
place his table in a better position in the office?
Ans: - Mostly the people who are the age of Krishnan are motivated by
new status or new job tittles or perks provided to them by the company.
Automatically they people motivated by these things because he/she feel
good that at this age they achieve something new in their life and do
their job in best way as they do.

Q5 is there some way in terms of appraisal and rewards with which you
can motivate Krishnan?
Ans: - 1) by taking advise/suggestion as senior or experienced person for
new terms and policies of the sales
2) By offering rewards and incentives to all the employees by him
3) By being him part of panel during any important plan or task
