New, Experienced Candidate for Sheriff

Former FBI Special Agent Verne Dickerson Declares Candidacy for
Sheriff of Loudoun County, Vows to Attack Menacing Progression of
Crime

Verne Dickerson, a retired 25-year veteran FBI Special Agent and

Leesburg resident, recently announced his candidacy for the
Republican nomination for Sheriff of Loudoun County.

“The population of Loudoun County has nearly quadrupled in the last

twenty years and the crimes we face are multiplying in step. The
current sheriff has proven that he cannot end the menacing trends of
increasing quantity and severity of crime. The people of Loudoun need
a new sheriff with the experience and resolve to fight back,” Mr.
Dickerson said. “I can lead the way.”

At the FBI, Mr. Dickerson was involved with complex criminal

investigations in gang matters, narcotics, auto theft, kidnappings, bank
robberies, white collar crimes and La Cosa Nostra. He has specialized
training in EEO, Civil Rights and SWAT. He has executed undercover
operations, performed surveillance and has taught classes at the FBI
Academy in Quantico to new agents.

Among other assignments, Mr. Dickerson was Supervisory Special

Agent in charge of 120 employees and approximately 2000 contract
investigators at FBI Headquarters in Washington, DC. Previously, he
was the FBI Organized Crime/Narcotics program manager for the
Northern Division of Ohio.

Before joining the FBI, Mr. Dickerson served as a corrections officer for
the Indiana Department of Corrections. From his experience there, he
believes Corrections in Loudoun need to be enforced a certain way. Mr.
Dickerson said, “Jails should be used for punishment, not recreational
activity. As Sheriff, I would make sure of it.”

The experience in a wide spectrum of law enforcement positions – from

the inception of an investigation through the correctional process – has
given Mr. Dickerson a unique perspective on what it takes to stop
crime. “The only way to deter hard crimes is by being tough on all
crimes and ensuring that criminals get locked away,” Mr. Dickerson
said. “The Sheriff’s Department must work hand in hand with the
Commonwealth Attorney to enforce every Federal, State and Local law.
The next Sheriff must have the ability to work alongside with multiple
agencies including State and Federal authorities.”

Mr. Dickerson is concerned about the rising crime rate in Loudoun

County, even in places where it is unexpected. “I believe that we
cannot afford to take the safety and security of the citizens of Loudoun
County for granted. We should pay closer attention to what is going on
in our schools and neighborhoods. Reports surface with frightening
frequency about gang violence. I believe we can and must eliminate
gang activity in Loudoun County. We must be vigilant against terrorist
threats, even close to home.”

Mr. Dickerson continued: “Crimes happen less when police are present.
I will work hard to make sure that deputies are visible and accessible
to the community. Our roads must be safer. We must crack down on
drunk driving and other infractions for the safety of the population and
the continued expansion of commerce.”

Mr. Dickerson believes that Loudoun County needs the protection of

the best deputies in the country. “We have the opportunity to train and
equip the best Sheriff’s Office in the country. From my experience,
continued training is essential to the well-being of a department. We
should strive to hire new deputies that match the diversity of the
community as a whole. But I will only hire and promote the most
qualified personnel, regardless of race or creed,” Mr. Dickerson said.

“The people of Loudoun County need to know what their public

servants believe in,” Dickerson said. “I believe we absolutely must
enforce immigration law. I believe in fiscal responsibility and that we
must put an end to wasteful spending. I believe that the Constitution of
the United States is a sacred document and must be protected.”
Dickerson concluded, “I also believe we need a new Sheriff in Loudoun
County, one who has the values of the community and the experience
to protect it.”

Verne Dickerson has lived with his loving wife Kathy in Leesburg for 12
years. He has two children and two grandchildren and is an active
Christian. Verne graduated with a Bachelors of Science from Indiana
State University in Terre Haute in 1971. To find out more about Verne
