II Statement of the problem

GPS are to get to understand more of how to navigation and precise positioning, before
determine the coordinate of a control station by using handheld GPS. Determine the
traverse station coordinates by using total station first. After that, use the handheld GPS
to determine the accuracy coordinate of the traverse station. So, we will know the
differences between the accuracy of Total Station and the handheld GPS.

III Scope of Study

In this study, the scope of work is divided into the following systematic scopes in order to
fulfill the objectives.
1. Study of the types of differential Global Positioning System and ground control
survey.
2. Explanation of the method of doing the control traverse.
Study of equipments used in the differential Global positioning System and ground
control survey.
4. Determine the accuracy coordinate of the traverse station by using differential
Global positioning system and ground control survey.

IV Research aims and objectives

This research carries out two objectives as follows:

1. To compare the accuracy between ground control survey data and Differential
Global Positioning System (DGPS).
2. To enhance knowledge in using Differential Global Positioning System (DGPS).

V Significance of the Study

The Global Positioning System (GPS) is a satellite-based navigation system made up of a

network of 24 satellites placed into orbit by the U.S. Department of Defense. GPS was
originally intended for military applications, but in the 1980s, the government made the
system available for civilian use. GPS works in any weather conditions, anywhere in the
world, 24 hours a day. There are no subscription fees or setup charges to use GPS.
Where a variety of surveying methods or techniques could be utilized, the analysis
evaluates the method that was considered to have the greatest potential. This approach
ensures that, irrespective of the methods used to construct the proposed case studies.
