INTRODUCTION OF KARAN JOHAR

Karan Johar, the illustrious filmmaker was born on 25th May, 1972 in Mumbai.
The son of Hiroo Johar and noted Producer Yash Johar, he has produced some
blockbusters himself, under the banner of Dharma Productions. There have
been speculations regarding his sexuality, but aside the silly controversies he
has carved a niche for himself in Bollywood. Karan entered the film world as an
actor and Assistant Director and now he is one of the most renowned directors
of industry.

He is a famous and well-renowned director of today’s new generation.

Being a today’s era director he is compiled to bring a story that new generation
will like but he also reflects the relationships of today’s generation with
parents.
He gives a really good show of our society and of our relationships. His movies
are filled with humor and shows feeling of mankind. When Karan was schooling
at Green Lawns, he used to be a complete movie buff. He had his own
collection of the latest Hindi films.
As Karan grew up, he realized that his love for cinema kept growing too, and
when he was studying at H R College, he got friendly with Aditya Chopra, Yash
Chopra's son. One day, Aditya called up Karan, wanting to narrate his gem of a
story idea he had. That film was "Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge". The next two
months saw Karan working along with Aditya on the scripting of the film, till
one day Adi asked him to assist him on the film. You might remember seeing a
plump guy, wearing a cap at all times, named Rocky, who played Shah Rukh's
buddy in the film. That was Karan! While working on "Dilwale Dulhaniya Le
Jayenge", during the Switzerland schedule of the film, one day Shah Rukh
suggested to Karan to direct his own film. That was how his debut "Kuch Kuch
Hota Hain" was born. Karan gave us Kuch Kuch Hota Hai in 1998. He Directed
the film, wrote its story, screenplay and even the dialogues. And he picked a
superb cast - Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol and Rani Mukherjee. A love story,
sprinkled generously with comedy, the film got a stupendous response.
The same year he co-produced Duplicate with his father and mother. The film,
about identical twins, played by Shah Rukh, was average.

The film Kuch Kuch Hota Hai ended up, as one of the biggest blockbusters of all
time and Karan was a superstar director before he realized it. For a teenager
who grew up on the works of Raj Kapoor and Yash Chopra, he was now a
successful filmmaker himself. After that, Karan took a break for a year as good
friend Adi was making "Mohabbatein". "Both Adi and me have decided that we
will make films alternately. So, when he makes a film, I will be there with him
at every stage and vice-versa", he said of his impressive decision.
After Mohabbatein released, Karan announced his next venture, "Kabhi Khushi
Kabhie Ghum", which was the biggest multi-star cast film made to date. Kabhi
Khushi Kabhie Gham released in 2001. Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan, Shahrukh
Khan with Kajol and Hrithik Roshan cast along Kareena Kapoor made Kabhi
Khusi Kabhi Ghum the hottest movie of the decade. True to the film's tag line
"It's all about loving your parents", the movie revolved around the relationship
between children and their parents. With beautful sets, catchy songs and
stellar performances from the entire cast, the film was bound to be a superhit
and so it was. Since then Lady Luck has been exceedingly sweet to him. He has
his own chat show as well. As they say some people have all the luck!

2 years after the success of Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham he Produced Kal Ho Naa
Ho (2003) and wrote its story and screenplay. By now it seemed like he would
cast Shah Rukh in all his films; he was the male lead in this movie too. The film
also starred Preity Zinta and Saif Ali Khan. A tragic love story about a dying
man and his supreme sacrifice, the film reduced the audience to tears.
Needless to say it was a hit.
He co-produced Kaal in 2005 with his mom Hiroo Johar and Shah Rukh Khan.
The thriller didn't do too well.

He came back as a Director with Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna (2006), writing the
story and screenplay too. Based on extra marital affairs the film did excellent
business abroad, though it was shrouded with controversy in India. People
found it difficult to digest the message given out by the film, though the acting
talents of the cast and soundtrack were appreciated.

In 2008 he Produced Dostana, a comedy showing gay relationships in a light

vein. It starred Abhishek Bachchan, John Abraham and Priyanka Chopra. It was
one of the biggest hits of the year.

The next year he Produced the very fresh looking Wake Up Sid (2009). Starring
Ranbir Kapoor and Konkana Sen Sharma, the film looks at the transition of the
male protagonist from being a carefree college boy to a responsible yet child-
at-heart mature adult. The film was liked not just by the college-going crowd
but also by their parents. It's a hit!

He directed and Produced My Name is Khan in 2010, whose story is also written
by him. In this movie he showed lead with struggling with mental challenges.It
was a hit again. He also produced and written Kurbaan (2009 release). He is the
Producer and Writer of Step Mom (2010 release). Karan is involved with lots of
projects at the moment.
INTRODUCTION OF RITU KUMAR

Ritu Kumar (born November 11, 1944) is an Indian fashion designer, based in
Delhi. She is one of India's top most fashion designers specially in bridal wear.
She did her Bachelor of Science in Home Economics from Lady Irwin College,
New Delhi in 1964 and then later did got degree of Associate in Arts in 1966
from Briarcliff College, Westchester County, NY, USA. Despite spending lot of
time in USA, she still has Indian citizenship. She is married and has two
children.

The ace designer had a humble beginning in a small village, near Kolkata, in
1960, with hand block printers and two tablets to flaunt about. With the
passage of years, fashion grew and so did her network. From being a designer
to an author, Ritu Kumar has been the master of the game. Life lesson from

ACTIVITIES OF RITU KUMAR

Ritu is undeniably one of the most celebrated and respected Indian fashion
designers in the world today. The likes of the late Princess Diana and Jemima
Khan have been fans of her work and in her professional capacity; she has also
co-authored a book, Costumes and Textiles of Royal India, published by
Christie’s in 1999. In a sea of fashionable talent, her name and designs stand
out a cut above the rest. . Her designed clothes are often wore by Indian
pageants in contests like Miss World, Miss Universe and Miss Asia pacific.

An icon of the Indian Fashion industry and a frontrunner in establishing a

position for India in the global forum, Ritu Kumar's contribution has been
impeccable to the fashion fraternity, both nationally and internationally. With
almost five decades of work for display, the designer excels in both traditional
and western outfits, though ethnic attires being her specialty. She was the first
women to bring the boutique culture to India, under the name "Ritu". The
gradual change in the fashion scenario has also lead to a change of designs for
her brand. She has kept in sync with the varying times and has effectively
brought creativity and innovativeness with each collection. Ritu holds the
status of being a revivalist in the fashion scenario, which has successfully
bridged the gap between conservative and conventional style.
Ritu Kumar has been designing the wardrobes comprising swimwear,
eveningwear, traditional Indian wear, casual wear, formal evening gowns; of
the three winning Miss India, for their participation in International Beauty
Pageants (Miss Universe, Miss World and Miss Asia Pacific respectively ).
Ritu Kumar co-authored a book “Costumes and Textiles of Royal India”
published by Christies in 1999, which chronicles the history of textiles and art
design in India. Kumar has opened a new flagship store in North America in The
Mall at Oak Tree in Edison, New Jersey.

Her son Ashvin Kumar is director, whose has made films like Road to
Ladakh (2002) and short film Little Terrorist (2004), which was nominated for
the 2004 Academy Award for Live Action Short Film , and in which she did the
costume design.

Many times, Ritu has won the award for the Most Outstanding Evening Gown in
International pageants. She was honored by the National Institute of Fashion
Technology in 1998, with Lifetime Achievement Award. The same year saw her
receiving the Outstanding Women Entrepreneur Award, bestowed on her by the
PHD - Chamber of Commerce. In the year 2000, Ritu Kumar proved her metal
once more and was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Kingfisher
group of industries.
