LETTER OF INTENT
Fort Chipewyan Framework for Dialogue and Collaborative Action

urther to our meeting of February 2, 2009, including input provided through previous meetings and

F discussions, we, the undersigned, through this Letter of Intent, confirm our shared commitment to build
respectful relationships based upon mutual trust and understanding. We recognize our responsibility to
support effective co-ordination, communication and collaboration towards the goal of improved health and
well-being of the community of Fort Chipewyan.

The leaders of Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation (ACFN) Mikisew Cree First Nation (MCF ). and Metis
Local #125 have identified the following priorities to ensure the sustainabilitj of the community for future
generations:

• Communif Health and Wellness - work cooperatively with the ACFN, MCFN and Metis Local lzs towards
any further studies or other mechanisms to deal with this important issue.
• Land-Use and Stewardship - work cooperatively with the ACFN, MCFN and Metis Local 125 in respect of
land use planning.
• Community-Based Environmental Monitoring - work toward having the ACFN. MCFN and Metis Local 125
involved in community based monitoring of the environment.
• Regulatory Processes - work cooperatively with ACFN, MCFN and Metis Local 125 to identify a process for
dialogue about regulatory processes.

We agree to e tablish a framework for dialogue and collaborative action to address the concerns and priorities
of the Fort Chipewyan community. The undersigned agree to review the framework annually. In the spirit of
cooperation, we will share knowledge and llui1d capacity in order to:

• Facilitate access to and promote awareness of available information and resources;


• Develop connections and seek the support of those with a common interest;
• Engage the federal government on issues of mutual concern,
• Identify emerging issues and needs in the community; and
• Seek ways of addressing the concerns of the ACFN. MCFN and Metis Local l Zf in res] ect of above
mentioned issues.

Government of Alberta Ministries and addressing the issues and concerns raised by the
community of Fort Chipewyan,

This Letter of Intent is not intended to abrogate or derogate from the existing Treaty and/or Aboriginal right of
the undersigned First Nations and Metis Local 125.
