Proverbs 22:6: Train up a child in a way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it Genesis 18:19: For T know that he will command his children and his household after him. 1. As believers we have certain methods of teaching our faith, If we are not to provoke our children what alternative do we have? CHILDREN don't become provoked when they get paddled but as they grow older these childish methods don't work. Close companionship is Important especially for those children who resent paddling SO MUCH IT 1S NOT AS EFFECTIVE AS COMPANIONSHIP. Give explanation why children shouldn't do something Instead of just commanding your children to door rot to do something just because mom or dad don't want it 1s important to instill love in the hearts of children to bring about obedience through LOVE. When Dad could no longer use the rod, he read from the Bible to his son. He even admitted he gave up trying to do something with hls son so he said he hoped the Lord could He spent hours reading from the Word. Make reference to the Word as the authority for forbidding some behaviour. Challenge teenagers that they know the Lord's way and their actions are on thelr OWN consciences. It makes them thik about it, When teenagers resent the reference of the Word, we must have patience Discipline should never be exercised in anger. Don't diseipline ‘on the spur of the moment. Conference is called with child in error. Lecture precedes punishment. By that time the parents fean be cooled, Resort to your room in prayer by yourself if rhecessary to be in the right frame of mind and there will be less chance of hurting feelings on either side. Show how really hurt you are over the misbehaviour We have all experienced the nature and admonition of the Lord. It's been borne out so _many times. Communists mold their children from birth to six years old for communism and claim it will stay for the rest of their lives. Be in the right frame fof mind, Reflect your happiness. Husbands and wives show them you love their mother ot father, Wife should never fail to uphold her husabad in whatever he administers in the Lord, TRAIN’ not just teach — entalls much more — envelopes whole behaviour, ‘exercise, much effort — not Just talk, Make compliments to children when they have good behaviour 1. Ephesians 6:4: And you to wrath thers provoke not your children 2, Wrath is against the love of God , Being human, one is apt to provoke children, but we should be big enough to admit we have made a mistake. This sa form of confessing, ©. We should not be inconsistent and demand something of ‘our children we do not do 4. Father and Mother must be in accord — HELPMATES, 2 Proverbs 22:6: Train up a child in the way he should © ‘a. You cannot start training a child at 12416. You must start a8 toddler. . As Christian parents, we cannot interpret this Seripture ‘as point blank assurance that our children will be converted. WE CAN TAKE COMFORT, THOUGH, THAT OUR TEACHING WILL NEVER DEPART FROM THEM. e. It fs important in spare time to give children undivided attention — hike, fish with them, LISTEN T0 THEM. 4. Let children pray aloud at meals. It is good training and key to parents what Is in their hearts fe. We should always refer to the Bible as our Book of snstruetions {. WE HAVE TO BE CONSISTENT IN ALL AREAS — not break traffic laws in front of ehild. and expect him to obey laws. 3. Would you win or lose? ‘Just suppose your church membership was good for only fone year and that reelection depended upon the good you had done in the church during that time. Would you be reelected not? ‘Just suppose there was a long list waiting to get in, Would you be more alive to your duties as a Christian? ‘Just suppose you were called upon to explain just why your church should keep your name on the roll. Have you a record of helpful service to offer in your defense? ‘Just suppose every member did as much for the Church as you are doing. Would more seats be needed or would the doors be shut? ‘Just suppose your church had this st of rules: All dues must be paid in advance. Regular attendance at services is required, sickness being the only acceptable excuse. Each member is required to serve in some activity, such as Chureh School teach- cr, official member, usher, choir member, parish visitor, ete. How long would you qualify? A Spiritual Experience Atter hearing of an elderly sister who was ill for several ‘weeks and had been unable to work, my husband and I decided to anonymously give her as much money as we had one woek. Within ten days we had everything back that we gave plus three dollars more, from small amounts that some of our friends ‘owed us; debts we already had forgotten. In addition to the ‘cash we received we were also given a pound of meat and a loaf of bread from the neighborhood grocer through the “Wel- ‘come Wagon.” We certainly experienced the truth of Proverbs 19:17 “le that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the Lord; and that which he hath givexfwil He pay him again.” NOTICE For those who faithfully attend the Banff Retreat and those contemplating the trip this year, we regretfully advise that the Retreat will not be held this year because of the time and the location of Western Camp. Josu Bagu of Kitchener served holy communion to the congregation. We praise God for His rich blessings. MARCH—1969 ‘This is an austere word. We would oftentimes rather talk bout G's love and compassion, This portion of Seripture points ‘out His righteousness and judgement about which we should also know and should not forget since it too is a part of the Word Which has been preserved for our instruction. Why was God now rejecting the Israeite’s sacrifices and songs which He had previously found pleasing? It was because their hearts were not right in the presence of God. It seems that, rman feels he wants to return to God some of the goodness He fzave, through some form of worship, but God does not take pleasure in our outward religion, He docs take pleasure in our ‘acknowledgement of His divinity and His word being law; in our ‘acknowledgement of Him as Lord and Master of our lives! The religion which we see all about us on every hand is not faith. The two are going separate ways this very day! As man becomes wiser, the Gospel finds no place in his Ife, because it does not exalt man but rather condemns him. ‘We should examine our motives for going to church week after week. Is it to seek self-usifcation or to veek a remedy for our lack of justifieation? God will never accept anyone's religion unless it encompasses His Son, for not one can eome to the Father except by Christ. Jesus said, “T am the door.” ‘ohn 10:8) ‘When things went good for Israel they foreot Gov, so ine: ‘ment was pronounced upon them. Let us knew that Go dors rot want to be used only’ as a crutch when thines go bad for us, But He wants to te in our lives every hour of every day. One thing separates man from God. thot is man’s wll. Te fs man’s ‘wil (sin) that condemns him. God's spirit is present twt-y speak: ing to the hearts of men and veemen. The auestrn is, will we answer? The time wil come for each and every one who fails to answer that the Spirt will no longer ail. Only fool, knowing what the Seripture says of the fudement to come, would g0 fut and fall to seek the Lord while He may vet he found. After hhaving heard or read the Seripture, only a fool would fail to hhumble himself and fall down upon his knees and plead the forgiveness of God. No, we may not be changed immediately bt ft Is a beginning. When will you begin to seek the face of the Lord? ‘Remember, the only thing that will justify us on that Jude- iment day will be our faith in Him, not what we have done or Said or thought, but our faith in His redeeming work for us, “Therefore being justified by faith, ‘we have peace with God fhrough our Lord Jesus Christ.” (Romans 5:1) From a sermon in Rochester by: Bro, Bob Freund (Syracuse) EYES OF GOD ALL SEEING EYES: The eyes of the Lord are in every place ‘beholding the evil and the good.
