INTRODUCTION TO STUDY
As a part of our course, in plant training after the end of 3rd semester is a
must, as it gives us practical exposure, and helps us to understand the working and culture of an
organization. As we have to enter the corporate world we have to prepare ourselves very well and
know its working. Entering into the fast changing world of economy with globalization,
liberalization and privatization and to prove ourselves without any practical knowledge, exposure
and experience about the business world will be difficult. Therefore this training helps us to know
the structure and working of an organization. I have done my in plant training at Swarnagiri Wire
Insulations Pvt Ltd. This study has helped me a lot to know the structure of an organization, its
working, roles and responsibilities of the different departments of the organization. It has also helped
us to know a few things about the corporate world. This study also helped to know about the
stressful atmosphere of the organization.
The SSI’s have emerged as dynamic sector in the economy. Accounting to 55%
of the total value of Industrial production. Large part of Exports has emerged from the
products by SSI’s. The SSI’s have played a vital role in development and growth of
Indian economy. The SSI’s are based on principles of communal ownership utilizing
the local labor and material to a great extent, so providing large employment
opportunities. It is a general finding that, small firms have a winning edge in
industries where there is great need for personalized service and attention to detail,
further they have a flexibility to adopt quickly to change in business and technological
environment.
Data collection
The data collected about the industry is primary data. It has been collected directly from
the Directors and Managers of the respective departments of the industry through direct interaction.
It has not been taken from any secondary sources like internet or books or any other project report of
the industry.

M/s Swarnagiri Wire Insulation Pvt. Ltd is one of the pioneers in the manufacturing of various
ranges of copper wires and conductors. The unit is an efficiently managed small scale industry
located in Industrial Estate on Gokul road. The company is situated at across 2km from Pune
Bangalore highway number NH-4. It is located in Hubli, a city which is very well connected by
railway, road and air.
The unit was established in the year 1985. It is now well equipped with sophisticated indigenous
wire production facilities and sophisticated laboratory for carrying out various tests required for the
products. Other facilities include first aid and basic amenities. It is a small scale unit manufacturing
wide range of best quality insulated copper conductors and wire started in the year 1988 by a group
of Industries in Hubli. The company is managed by directors with vast experiences for more than 2
decades. They are well assisted by well experienced shop floor personal and office staff. Within a
span of 15 years the company has been able to produce consistently high quality of product and
apart from buyers such as OEMS of Electric motors manufactures, the company has regular buyers
as railways.
Swarnagiri has been manufacturing Super Enameled Copper Winding Wire and Poly/PVC
Insulating Submersible Winding wire since fifteen years catering to the specific requirement of their
customer. Over 1000 tones of winding wire produced in a year covering a wide range such as
polyester, modified polyester, polyesterimide, dual coated etc. in a different grades and sizes for a
variety of application for all type of industries. Their concern towards customer in catering their
needs and quality products has been able to established unbreakable bond with them. Innovating
technical development is an on going process to keep in tune with changing time.

Recruitment
The HR department performs the function of recruitment. If there need of a personnel in any
department of the organization then the HR department is informed about the kind of personnel they
need with the qualification that a person require for a particular job. Then the HR department finds
the personnel through the various sources and attracts them towards applying for job.
Selection
After necessary interviews and test the best candidate is been selected as per the requirement of the
company out of the various applicant who is approved by the head of the department ant the director.
Induction
After the selection the candidate, the department conducts the induction program where he is
introduced to all the head and employee of the department. He is explained about the various
policies of the HR department, rules and regulation of the company become familiar to all policies
rules and regulation and he feels comfortable working with others.
This is another program carried out by HR department. There is a training and development program
conducted for all the employees of the organization right from the manager to the assistant. The
various training programs like self-development behavioral training program.
The wage and salary of the employee is been calculated on hour rate and the wage and salary is been
fixed by the HR manager depending upon the employee qualification, work experience and the type
of work done by him.
Grievance handling
This department looks after the grievance and problems faced by various departments and an
organizational on the whole. They maintain good and effective relation between the management
and employee and solve their problems.

Requisition
This is the first process of recruitment process here if the head of the particular department requires
an employee he sends a requisition, which contain the qualification and designation to the HR
department and the department head approves.
Searching of personnel
After getting the approval the HR executive starts searching for the suitable personnel for a
particular designation through the various sources which they have such as, Consultancy agency
Campus interview References and attract them towards applying for the jobs.
Interview
Here in the interview the panel consists of HR head, department head for which the candidate is
required. Here in the interview the HR head access his personality that whether the particular
employee according to his personality wise is suitable for that job that whether he posses the skill
required for the job or not.
Selection
After necessary interview and the test the best candidate is been selected as per the requirement of
the company out of various applicant who is approved by the head of the department and the
director.

Production process
The production undergoes the following process for converting the 8mm copper rods which is the
basic raw material for the production of different size of copper wires as per the requirement of the
customer.

When the raw material that is the 8mm copper rod is passed through the Rod Break
Down machine it draws wires of the required size as set by the operator. It undergoes the following
process-
This machine is used to draw 8mm rod to 3.25mm.The 8mm copper rod is been
passed through the Bull Block drawing machine which is fitted wit dies inside it. Each dies is of
different size and draws the rod. It undergoes the following process-
• Received copper cc rods of 8mm.
• Check water circulation & metal drawing coolant (IML-501(D))
• 8mm copper rod to be pointed at the pointing machine.
• Point the 7.75mm rod and then draw through 7.25mm die.
• Point the 7.25mm rod and then draw through 6.25mm die.
• Point the 6.25mm rod and then draw through 5.25mm die.
• Point the 5.25mm rod and then draw through 4.47mm die.
• Point the 4.47mm rod and then draw through 3.75mm die.
• Point the 3.75mm rod and then draw through 3.25mm die.
• Inspect the copper rod for the correct size i.e 3.25.
After the inspection of the correct size of 3.25 the next process is intermediate wire
drawing. In this process the 3.25mm copper rod is been passed through the machine and wire is
drawn into different size according to the customer needs.

• Check percentage reduction die to die
• Check cone surface
• Check water circulation and position
• Point the 3.25mm rod and then draw through a set of dies series for the required size
• As per the requirement of the wire the dies are set with the finishing die of required size
• Load the bobbin on the spindle on the spindle for the finished wire to the winded
• Check the tension every 10min. & adjust traverse as per the correct bobbin
• Check the flags of the bobbin and adjust the traverse as per the correct bobbin
• After winding the required size of wire on the bobbin the bobbin is unloaded from the
spindle the wire sample is unloaded from the spindle the core sample is subjected to inspection by
the supervisor for the correct size. Then the sample is subjected to the Q.A for the approval of size
and quality.
• After the inspection for the correct size pass the wire to the enameling unit for further
process
Enameling process
• Received the copper wire of required size from the intermediate wire drawing machine unit.
• Check the size of copper wire and smoothness of surface of wire.
• Check the total plant for good condition.
• Clean annealed distilled water tank and fill fresh tested distilled water.
• Immense the heater in distilled water tank and start the generator.
• Set the die for required size of wire.
• After obtaining 300 degree Celsius at the annealed start the oven temperature.
• Ensure to position the felt pads and pay off in proper positions.
• Start the after obtaining the required oven temperature.
• Apply enamel to the enameling unit and start and start enamel pump and exhaust fan and
cooling fans.
• Check the insulation pass to pass.
• Take the first sample of enameled wire for checking the correct size and overall diameter.
• Sent the enameled wire sample to the Q.A for the online checking of F&A, BDV,
ELONGATION, OVERALL DIE, and BARE SIZE.
• After clearance from the bobbin are then subjected to the complete testing.

Quality policy
The quality policy of M/S Swarnagiri wire insulation is to manufacture and market quality
production by continual improvement of the system in order to attain highest level of customer
satisfaction.
Quality objective
To maintain the quality of the outgoing product their by maintain customer complaint level nil.
To check the quality of the product M/S Swarnagiri has a separate quality control lab. The finished
product is tested in order to maintain the quality of the product.
Every finished product undergoes the following test
• BDV tester (break down voltage)
• Resistant tester
• Cut through tester
• DCPH tester or spring back tester

Marketing is very useful tool to know what consumer wants, understand their problem
and help to develop a product which will satisfy their needs. The success of most of the industry lies
in effective marketing a good marketer is one who identifies consumer wants, understand it, prepare
proper strategies, and develop a product which will satisfy their needs.
Marketing process
In Swarnagiri all the other plans (production plan, material plan) comes after marketing
plan. First the marketer tries to understand what the consumer wants, his needs and problem through
verbal, telephonic or by direct order. Then they review their wants if it is understand and agreed the
production planning and material planning is done, if not they may get more information and also
query to the consumer. If the consumer wants and needs are clearly understood then the production
and material planning is done.

production level in year 2007 by importing machine by Italy worth
Rs.1.5 crores

SUGESSTIONS
• The company should further plan for expansion as they are doing well and
investment will not be a problem as it has proved itself in the last 15 years
and thus can get loan facilities.
• The company should plan to increase their production by installing another
plant like they have installed an imported machine which comparatively
needs less labour and time for production.
• The working place for the workers especially the Production unit is not
clean. It needs a few changes like it should be painted and given a new and
different look, if the atmosphere is clean and friendly the workers will be
able to work more efficiently.
• The company should start up some social responsibilities towards the
society.
CONCLUSION
• The in-plant training which I went through at Swarnagiri Wire Insulations Pvt Ltd has
helped me to know the working and structure of an organization. It provided me an
opportunity to gain knowledge about the different processes and different departments of the
organization.
• The company is involved in the production of Super Enameled Copper Winding Wires,
under the brand name Swarnagiri. The company is doing quite well since last 15 years. It
has shown an upward trend in its growth.
• The company has been certified by ISO 9001-2000 Co. Its products have also been approved
by R.D.S.O. Lucknow, it has also received an Excellence Award, and the M.D. has received
Udyog Ratna Award. This helps to know how well the company has established itself.
• The demand for the product will keep on increasing as the use of FHP Motors, Transformers,
rotating and static electrical equipments keeps increasing as the technology advances.
• The company maintains a constant quality control, which forms a basic part of company’s
corporate goal as it very well knows that it is important to maintain the quality at competitive
price. Product quality is also a key to success.
• I am very thankful to the company to give me the knowledge and information about its
working and helping me to undergo the training. My exposure to the industry through this
training enabled me to understand the subjects practically rather than theoretically.
