IT Administrator - International Rivers (Part-time)

International Rivers is a non-profit advocacy and analysis organization headquartered in


Berkeley, California, and with staff and consultants currently working from Brazil, India and
Thailand. International Rivers supports communities around the world in protecting their rivers
and rights. We work to halt destructive dams and encourage better methods of meeting needs for
water, energy and protection from floods.

We are seeking a part-time IT Administrator to provide technical support and perform routine
network administration tasks in our downtown Berkeley office. The IT Administrator is
responsible for overseeing all aspects of International Rivers’ cross-platform network. The ideal
candidate for this position is technically proficient, dependable, skilled at teaching, possesses an
excellent attention to detail and is interested in our work.

Specific responsibilities include:

• End-user support, troubleshooting and ongoing maintenance of approximately 25


workstations (mix of XP, Windows 7 and OS X)
• Ongoing maintenance of application & file servers (Windows Server 2003)
• Installation and configuration of new workstations, servers, and peripherals
• Purchasing, vendor relations, and active participation in IT Department planning and
budgeting
• Maintenance/authoring of IT documentation including: user guides, software/hardware
inventory and network infrastructure
• Staff, intern, and volunteer tech orientation & training

Required qualifications and experience:

• Possession or pursuit of a Bachelor's degree in a computer-related field, or equivalent


experience
• Experience providing end-user support on PCs and Macs
• Strong knowledge of:
◦ Operating Systems: Windows XP, Windows 7, OS X, Windows Server 2003
◦ Networks: File shares, NTFS permissions, printers, general TCP/IP networking

◦ Hardware: Hands-on experience with both PC and Mac hardware troubleshooting and
replacement
• Experience with:
◦ MS Office, Acrobat, Skype, Firefox, Thunderbird, Mac Mail, FileMaker, Anti-Virus

Preferred qualifications and experience:


• At least two years experience in IT Administration
• Previous experience in a nonprofit office setting
• Technical teaching/training experience
• Administration of edge devices (routers, switches, VPN)
• Experience with LAMP servers (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP)
• Experience with batch and/or bash scripting
• Knowledge of common open source software packages (OpenOffice, GIMP, VLC)
• Experience with Drupal (or other Content Management Systems)
• Dedication to our mission, patience and a sense of humor

International Rivers offers a stimulating and casual work environment. The IT Administrator
work schedule is somewhat flexible: requiring an average of 20 hours per week between 9:00am-
5:00pm, with occasional after-hours or weekend work. Pay range is between $18-22 per hour
DOE. Our benefits package includes health insurance and excellent vacation and sick leave.
