The Brief Psychiatric Rating Scale (BPRS)1 fue diseñada por Overall y
Gorham y estaba basada en la Multidimensional Scale for Rating Psychiatric
Patients de Lorr2. Se diseñó con objeto de valorar la respuesta al tratamiento
farmacológico en pacientes psicóticos, aunque también se ha utilizado para el
diagnóstico3 y para la clasificación sindrómica de este cuadro.
INTERPRETACIÓN
PROPIEDADES PSICOMÉTRICAS
Fiabilidad:
Los valores psicométricos han sido ampliamente estudiados5, 7, 18-21,
arrojando, en general, resultados satisfactorios, si bien se ha criticado la validez
interobservador. Ésta suele encontrarse, en distintos estudios, en torno a 0,8, con
diferencias mayores cuando se analizan ítems individuales (0,63 a 0,85). Las
cuestiones que hacen referencia a observaciones suelen arrojar valores menores
que aquellas que se basan en información proporcionada por el paciente o
sintomatología clínica.
Validez:
Numerosos estudios han demostrado la concordancia con otras escalas que
valoran síntomas psicóticos. Tal vez, con la que más se ha comparado haya sido
con la SAPS y la SANS, demostrando muy buena concordancia en los resultados
de las subescalas de síntomas positivos y negativos, así como en la puntuación
total entre la BPRS y la PANSS23,24.
