BANKS LEADING CANDIDATE IN METRO COUNCIL DISTRICT 31

Campaign financial disclosure shows more than $14,000 raised from supporters

Brady Banks, candidate for Metro Council District 31, has taken a significant lead in the race for that
open seat.

Campaign financial reports filed January 31st show Banks raised more than $14,000 among supporters
in just over two months. His fundraising totals put Banks in the top tier in fundraising among all Metro
Council candidates this reporting period.

“I am grateful for the financial support of the many persons who gave this period. It’s a wonderful start
to the campaign. There is tremendous energy among our supporters and it’s a source of encouragement
as our campaign continues to work hard,” Banks said. “People are responding positively to our message
of ensuring the quality of our children’s education, preserving the district’s quality of life and safety, and
helping manage the growth of our local economy and community. Our campaign is generating
enthusiasm in the 31st district and excitement about the district’s future.”

Derrick Free, 31st district resident and Banks’ campaign treasurer, said, “Brady’s got the energy, the
work ethic, and the ability to lead in Metro Council on behalf of the 31st district. I’m so pleased with the
work he has put into this race so far.” Free added, “Brady is going to be an effective voice on council for
our district if the voters give him the honor of serving.”

Banks currently serves as Outreach Director for the Governor’s Books from Birth Foundation, a literacy
program that provides free books to children aged five and younger in all 95 counties in Tennessee. Prior
to his service with the GBBF, he served as the Director of the Mayor’s Office of Neighborhoods for
Mayor Karl Dean.

A native of Hermitage, Tenn., Banks is a McGavock High School alumnus. He graduated from Mercer
University and Harvard Divinity School. He is married to the Rev. Kristin Clark-Banks, a United Methodist
minister. He is a board member of Nashville Emerging Leaders and past co-chair of Episcopal Relief and
Development for the Diocese of Tennessee.

District 31 spans parts of southeast Davidson County and includes the neighborhoods of Brentwood,
Nipper’s Corner, Lenox Village, Cane Ridge, and portions of Antioch. The district borders are Old Hickory
Blvd. and Hill Rd. to the north, interstate 65 to the west, interstate 24 to the east, and the Davidson
County line to the south.
The seat is being vacated by Councilman Parker Toler due to term limits. The next Metro Council
election will be held in August 2011.
