The Joyful Mysteries

The Annunciation

1. The Immaculate Conception, Birth and Presentation of the infant Mary.

2. Mary was and espoused to St. Joseph.
3. The Angel Gabriel was sent from God to Nazareth to the Virgin Mary.
4. The Angel said “Hail, full of grace, the Lord is with you, blessed are you among
women.”
5. Mary was troubled at the Angel’s saying and pondered what sort of greeting it might
be.
6. The Angel said to her, “Fear not Mary, for you have found favor with God; behold you
shall conceive in your womb and shall bring forth a son and you shall call his name
Jesus.”
7. Mary said to the Angel, “How shall this be done because I know not man?”
8. And the Angel answering, said to her, “The Holy Spirit shall come upon you and the
power of the most High shall overshadow you.”
9 Mary said, “Behold the handmade of the Lord, be it done to me according to thy
word.”
10. And the word was made flesh and dwelt among us.

The Visitation

1. And Mary rising up in those days went to the hill country with haste into a city of
Juda.
2. She entered into the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth.
3. When Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, the infant leaped in her womb and
Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.
4. And she cried out with a loud voice and said, “Blessed are you among women and
blessed is the fruit of your womb.”
5. Elizabeth said, “And how does this happen to me, that the mother of my Lord should
come to me?”
6. Elizabeth said, “Blessed are you who believe that what was spoken to you by the
Lord would be fulfilled.”
7. Mary said, “My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord; my spirit rejoices in God my
Savior.”
8. Mary remained with Elizabeth about three months.
9. Elizabeth gave birth to John the Baptist.
10. Zechariah’s mouth was opened, his tongue loosed, and he spoke, blessing God.

The Nativity

1. And it came to pass, that in those days there went out a decree from Caesar
Augustus, that the whole world should be enrolled.
2. Mary and Joseph traveled to Bethlehem. While they were there, the time came for
her to have her child.
3. Mary without loss of her virginity gave the world its Savior.

4. Mary wrapped baby Jesus in swaddling clothes and laid Him in a manger.
5. The Angel announced to the shepherds the Birth of Christ.
6. The Angel and a multitude of the heavenly army praised God saying, “Glory to God in
the highest; and on earth peace to men of good will.”
7. The shepherd went in haste; and they found Mary and Joseph, and the infant lying in
the manger.
8. The child should be circumcised on the eighth day, and his name was called JESUS.
9. The Magi saw the star in the east and came to adore Jesus.
10. They fell down and give him homage. Then they opened their treasures and offered
Him gift of gold, frankincense and myrrh.

The Presentation

1. On the fortieth day Mary and Joseph took Jesus up to Jerusalem to present him to
the Lord.
2. They also brought a pair of turtle dove and two young pigeons for sacrifice.
3. Simeon moved by the Holy Spirit came into the temple, and he took baby Jesus into
his arms.
4. Simeon professed Jesus as light for revelation to the Gentiles, and glory for the
people Israel.
5. Simeon told Mary that Jesus would be a sign of contradiction and a sword would
pierce her soul.
6. A prophetess, Anna came and thanked God and spoke about the Child to others.
7. Joseph took the Child and his mother by night and retired into Egypt and he was
there until the death of Herod.
8. King Herod killed the Holy Innocents.
9. When Herod was dead, Joseph took the Child and his mother and went into the land
of Israel.
10. Jesus lived with Mary and Joseph in the home at Nazareth. He grew up and became
strong.

The Finding of Jesus in the Temple

1. When Jesus was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem for the feast of
Passover.
2. The Child Jesus remained in Jerusalem; and his parents knew it not.
3. And thinking that Jesus was in the company, they came a day’s journey, and sought
him among their relatives and acquaintances.
4. After three days they found him in the temple of Jerusalem.
5. Jesus was sitting in the midst of the doctors hearing them and asking them
questions.
6. And all that heard him were astonished at his wisdom and his answers.
7. Mary said to him, “Son, why have you done this to us? Your father and I have been
looking for you with great anxiety.”
8. And Jesus said to them, “Why were you looking for me? Did you not know that I
must be in my Father’s house?”
9. And Jesus went down with them, and came to Nazareth and was subject to them.
10. And His mother kept all these words in her heart.

The Luminous Mysteries

The Baptism of Jesus

1. John the Baptist preached in the desert saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven
is at hand!”
2. People went out to John the Baptist and were baptized by him.
3. John told the people that there was One coming after him, whose sandal strap he
was not worthy to untie.
4. Jesus came from Galilee to John at the Jordan to be baptized by him.
5. John tried to prevent Jesus, saying, “I ought to be baptized by You, and yet You are
coming to me?”
6. Jesus said, “Suffer it to be so now. For so it becoming us to fulfill all justice.”
7. Jesus was baptized by John.
8. Jesus came up from the water and the heavens were opened to Him.
9. He saw the Holy Spirit descending as a dove, and coming upon Him.
10. A voice from heaven saying, “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”

The Wedding at Cana

1. There was a marriage in Cana of Galilee, and Jesus, Mary, and the disciples were
there.
2. The wine was running out.
3. Mary said to Jesus, “They have no wine.”
4. Jesus said, “Woman, what is that to me and to you? My hour is not yet come.”
5. Mary said to the waiters, “Do whatever He tells you.”
6. Jesus told the waiters to fill the six waterpots with water, and they filled them up to
the brim.
7. Jesus told the waiters to draw out the water and to carry it to the chief steward.
8. The chief steward tasted the water made wine.
9. He called the bridegroom and said to him, “Every man at first set forth good wine,
and when men have well drunk, then that which is worse. But you have kept the
good wine until now.”
10. Jesus did this as the beginning of his signs, and His disciples began to believe in
him.

The Proclamation of the Kingdom

1. Jesus came into Galilee and preached, saying, “The time is accomplished, and the
kingdom of God is at hand: repent, and believe the gospel.”
2. Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in the synagogues, and preaching the gospel
of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness.
3. Jesus went up the mountain, set down, and began to teach the crowds, saying,
“Blessed are the poor in spirits for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”
4. Jesus taught the disciples to pray the Our Father.
5. After instructing the twelve apostles, Jesus sent them out to preach the gospel.

6. Jesus fed five thousand men and five loaves and two fish.
7. Jesus gave the Bread of Life discourse in the synagogue in Capernaum.
8. Jesus told the disciples parables of the Kingdom of God.
9. Simon Peter said, “You are the Christ, the son of the living God.” Jesus said to
Peter, “you are Peter, and upon this rock, I will build my church.”
10. Jesus predicted his suffering and death.

The Transfiguration

1. Jesus took Peter, James and John and led them up to a high mountain by
themselves.
2. Jesus was transfigured before them; His face shone like the sun.
3. Jesus’ clothes became dazzling white, such as no fuller on earth could bleach them.
4. Moses and Elijah appeared to the disciples in majesty.
5. Moses and Elijah were conversing with Jesus about His Passion.
6. Peter said to Jesus, “Master, it is good for us to be here; and let us make three tents,
one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.
7. While Peter was still speaking, a cloud came and cast a shadow over them.
8. A voice came from the cloud that said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well
pleased; listen to Him.”
9. The disciples saw no one else but Jesus alone.
10. Jesus charged the disciples to tell no one of the vision until the resurrection.

The Institution of the Eucharist

1. Jesus sent two of His disciples and instructed them to prepare the Passover meal.
2. When it was evening, Jesus came with the twelve apostles, and they reclined at table
and were eating.
3. Jesus said to the apostles, “With desire, I have desired to eat this Passover with you
before I suffer.”
4. Jesus said, “Amen, I say to you, one of you will betray me.”
5. Jesus washed the feet of the apostles.
6. Jesus took bread and said, “This is my body, which will be given for you.”
7. When supper was ended, Jesus took cup and said, “This is the chalice of my blood.”
8. Jesus commanded the apostles, “Do this in memory of me.”
9. Jesus gave the apostles a new commandment saying, “As I have loved you, so you
also should love one another.”
10. Jesus offered priestly prayer for His disciples.

Sorrowful Mysteries

The Agony in the Garden

1. Jesus came to the Garden of Gethsemane and He took with Him Peter, James and
John.
2. Jesus said to them, “My soul is sorrowful even unto death; stay you here, and
watched with me.”

3. Jesus prayed, “My Father, if it be possible, let this chalice pass from me.
Nevertheless not as I will, but as you will.”
4. And there appeared to Him an angel from heaven strengthening Him.
5. And His sweat became as drops of blood, trickling down upon the ground.
6. Jesus returned to His disciples and found them asleep. He said to Peter, “Watch and
pray that you may not undergo the test.”
7. Jesus prayed, “My Father, if this chalice may not pass away, but I must drink it, thy
will be done.”
8. Judas came and with him a large crowd with swords and clubs.
9. Judas betrayed Jesus with a kiss.
10. Jesus was arrested and all the disciples left Him and fled.

The Scourging at the Pillar

1. Jesus was led to the High Priest, where the scribes and elders were assembled.
2. One of the temple guards gave Jesus a blow.
3. Peter denied Jesus three times.
4. Jesus was imprisoned.
5. In the morning, they delivered Jesus to Pontius Pilate.
6. Pilate sent Jesus to Herod, who mocked Him, putting on Him a white garment.
7. The crowd demanded Pilate to release Barabbas for them, and to put Jesus to death
8. Jesus was tied to a pillar.
9. Jesus endured the Scourging.
10. Jesus fell on the ground full of His blood.

The Crowning with Thorns

1. The soldiers led Jesus away inside the palace (the praetorium).
2. They clothes Jesus in purple cloak.
3. They weaved a crown of thorns and placed it on Jesus.
4. They put a reed in Jesus’ right hand.
5. They mocked Jesus, saying, “Hail, King of the Jews!”
6. They spat upon Jesus and struck His head with the reed.
7. Jesus was brought out, and Pilate said, “Behold the man!”
8. The priests and the guards cried out, “Crucify him, crucify him!”
9. Pilate tried to release Jesus, but the Jews threatened him.
10. Pilate asked, “Shall I crucify your king?” The chief priests answered, “We have no
king but Caesar.”

The Carrying of the Cross

1. Pilate condemned Jesus to death.

2. Jesus accepted the Cross and carried it Himself.
3. Jesus fell beneath the Cross.
4. Jesus met His sorrowful Mother.
5. Simon of Cyrene was forced to help Jesus carry the Cross.
6. Veronica wiped the face of Jesus.
7. The women of Jerusalem wept for Jesus.
8. Jesus told the women not to weep for Him, but to weep instead for themselves for

their children.
9. They gave Him wine mixed with gall. But when He had tasted it, He refused to drink.
10. Jesus was stripped of His garments.

The Crucifixion

1. Jesus was nailed on the Cross.

2. They raised the Cross, and Jesus prayed, “Father, forgive them, for they know not
what they do.”
3. Jesus said to the good thief, “Amen I say to you, this day you shall be with me in
paradise.”
4. Jesus said to Mary, “Woman, behold your son.” And He said to John, “Behold your
mother.”
5. Jesus cried out: “My God, my God, why have You forsaken me?”
6. Jesus said, “I thirst”. And they gave Him vinegar to drink.
7. Jesus said, “It is consummated.”
8. Jesus cried out, “Father, into your hands I commend my spirit.” And saying this, He
gave up his soul.
9. One of the soldiers opened Jesus’ side with a spear, and immediately there came out
blood and water.
10. The body of Jesus was taken down and was buried in the tomb.

Glorious Mysteries

The Resurrection

1. The soul of Jesus descended into the dead.

2. The soul of Jesus reunited to His body.
3. Jesus appeared to His Mother Mary
4. Jesus appeared to Mary Magdalene.
5. Jesus appeared to the holy women.
6. Jesus appeared to Simon Peter.
7. Jesus appeared to the disciples on the road to Emmaus.
8. Jesus appeared to the disciples. He stood in their midst and said, “Peace be with
you.”
9. Jesus instituted the Sacrament of Penance.
10. Eight days later, Jesus appeared to the doubting Thomas.

The Ascension

1. Jesus led the disciples out as far as Bethany.

2. When the disciples saw Jesus, they worshipped Him.
3. Jesus commanded them to make disciples of all nations and to baptize.
4. Jesus said, “He that believes and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believes not
shall be condemned.”
5. Jesus promised that signs would accompany those who believe.
6. Jesus said, “Behold, I am with you all days, even to the consummation of the world.”
7. Jesus raised His hands and blessed them.

8. Jesus was lifted up and a cloud took Him from their sight.
9. Jesus is seated at the right hand of the Father.
10. Jesus will come again to judge the living and the dead.

The Descent of the Holy Spirit

1. Mary and the disciples were persevering with one mind in prayer in the upper room.
2. On the day of Pentecost, in the third hour, suddenly there came a sound from
heaven, as of a mighty wind coming.
3. And there appeared to them parted tongues as it were of fire, and it set upon every
one of them.
4. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in different tongues.
5. Every man in the crowd heard them speak in his own tongue.
6. Peter standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and spoke to them.
7. They that received His words, were baptized; and there were added in that day about
three thousand souls.
8. And they were persevering in the doctrine of the apostles, and in the communication
of the breaking of bread, and in prayers.
9. Many wonders also and signs were done by the apostles in Jerusalem, and there
was great fear in all.
10. Every day the Lord added to their number those who were being saved.

The Assumption

1. Mary supported the infant Church by words, deeds and prayers.

2. Mary longed to be with her son in Heaven.
3. Our Lady died a holy death.
4. The body of Mary was buried.
5. The body of Mary was raised up by God.
6. The body and soul of Our Lady was assumed into Heaven.
7. God the Father welcomed His most beloved Daughter.
8. God the Son welcomed His most Holy Mother.
9. God the Holy Spirit welcomed His most chaste Spouse.
10. All the angels and saints welcomed Mary and sang her praises.

The Coronation of Our Lady

1. The Holy Trinity crowned our Blessed Mother.

2. Our Lady was crowned for her virtue of humility.
3. Our Lady was crowned for her virtue of chastity.
4. Our Lady was crowned for her virtue of charity.
5. Our Lady is the Queen of angels and saints in Heaven.
6. Our Lady is the Queen of all men on earth.
7. Our Lady is the Queen of the holy souls in purgatory.
8. Our Lady is our Co-redemptrix.
9. Our Lady is our Mediatrix.
10. Our Lady is our Advocate.
