Progression Paper 2 (Set 1)

1. Bijak Book Store launched a sale for exercise book from January 2009 to December
2009. Bijak Book Store sold 500 exercise books in January 2009 and its sales
increased constantly by 50 exercise books every subsequent month.
(a) (i) Determine the number of exercise books sold by the Bijak Book Store in the
month of June.[750] [2 marks]
th
(ii) Bijak Book Store sold 1000 books in the n months. Find the value of n.[11]
[3 marks]
(b) Given that the Bijak Book Store earns a profit of 8 cents from each of the
exercise books sold. Find the total profit gained by the Bijak Book Store in the
year of 2009.[RM744] [3 marks]

2.
The diagram shows the first three of
an infinite series of quadrants. The
radius of the first quadrant is 1 cm and
its area is represented by A1. The
radius of the second quadrant is twice
the radius of the first quadrant and its
area is represented by A2. The radius
of the third quadrant is twice the
radius of the second quadrant and its
area is represented by A3. The radius
of each subsequent quadrant is double the measurements of its previous one.
(a) State the common ratio. [4]
(b) Find the area of the sixth quadrant. [ ]
(c) Calculate the sum of the area from the third quadrant to the sixth quadrant,
in terms of . [ ] [6 marks]

3.

The diagram
shows part of an
arrangement of
triangular block.
The lower row
has 198 triangular blocks. For each of the rows, the number of triangular block are 4
less than in the previous row. Joe builds a triangle by arranging the blocks in this
way. The number of triangle blocks in the top row is 2.
(a) Calculate the number of rows in this arrangement.[n=50]
(b) If the height and the base of each triangular block is 6 cm and 8 cm
respectively, calculate the area in cm2 of the triangle.[120 000 cm2][6 marks]

4. Two factories, A and B, start to produce gloves at the same time.

(a) Factory A produces pairs of gloves in the first month and its production
increases constantly by pairs of gloves every subsequent month. It
produces 300 pairs of gloves in the 5th month and the total production for
first seven months is 1750. Find the value of and of .[ ]
[5 marks]

(b) Factory B produces 200 pairs of gloves in the first month and its production
increases constantly by 25 pairs of gloves every subsequent month. Find the
month when both of the factories produce the same total number of gloves.

A number of wires are arranged as shown in the diagram. The longest wire is 40 cm
long. The length of each subsequent wire is 20% shorter than the previous wire. Find

(a) the length of the 6th wire.[13.1072]

6. Diagram below shows three consecutive squares arranged in ascending order.

(a)
Show that the perimeter of
the squares forms an
arithmetic progression.
Hence, state the value of
the common
difference.[d=4] [2 marks]

(b) Given that cm, find

(i) the sum of the perimeters of the first 15 squares[1140]
(ii) the first square that has the perimeter of more than cm.[n=32]
