Introduction
Creative VoIP Blaster uses your Internet account to make long-distance calls. The cost for these
long-distance calls over the Internet to other VoIP Blaster users is just the cost of your Internet
service or local call. Voice-over-IP technology allows you to send digital information over the
Internet instead of, or in conjunction with, the PSTN (public switched telephone network),
dramatically reducing the cost of the call.
VoIP Blaster connects to your PC via the USB port, and it lets you plug in your normal corded
or cordless telephone. It works with whatever connection to the Internet you use: a dial-up
connection using your PC’s internal or external modem, or a direct connection using your xDSL
modem, your cable modem, or a global IP network.
VoIP Blaster’s powerful Digital Signal Processing technology provides high voice quality.
Being hardware-based, it allows you to make phone calls over the Internet at the same time as
you surf the Web.
If you call a number that does not have VoIP Blaster, VoIP Blaster will automatically switch to
InnoMediaTM’s InnoSphereTM network to complete the call at possibly the lowest long-distance
rates currently available. Calls made over the Internet from your VoIP Blaster to any other VoIP
Blaster user carries no additional costs. Voice E-mail can also be sent if the other VoIP Blaster
user does not answer.

vii
InnoMedia’s InnoSphere lets you make calls to any phone in over 200 countries at some of the
lowest long-distance rates currently available. An InnoSphere account is needed to make calls.
You may recharge the value in this account whenever you want to. See “Recharge Account” on
page 3-9 for instructions.

Cause Currently, VoIP Blaster is not designed to work on PCs with LAN and firewall.
If you are a corporate user, your PC is probably networked within the corporate
firewall (check with your Network Administrator).
Solutions Do the following:
❑ Make sure your PC is not connected to LAN, and is not within a firewall.
❑ Connect your PC to the Internet by using a modem.
❑ Any network adapters on your PC need to be disabled with the following
actions:
1. Right-click the My Computer icon on your desktop, and select
Properties from the popup menu.
2. Click the Device Manager tab and then double-click Network Adapters.
3. Select the appropriate Ethernet NIC card and then click the Properties
button.
4. Select the Disable in this Hardware Profile check box, and then click the
OK button. You will not have access to any network resources.
To re-enable your network card:
1. Repeat steps 1 through 3 above.
2. Click the Enable Device button and then click the OK button.
3. Close the System Properties window.
4. Restart your computer to log back into the network.

B-2 Troubleshooting
7KH#YRLFH#TXDOLW\#LV#SRRU1
Cause You may be connected to the Internet at an inadequate modem speed,
experiencing heavy, ongoing Internet traffic, or you are using a modem that does
not handle data traffic very well.
Solutions Do the following:
❑ If you are using an earpiece, adjust the volume level around midway in the
VoIP Blaster Dialer. If you are using a telephone set, try adjusting the volume
for the receiver using the telephone’s volume control (if any).
❑ Use a direct phone line. Do not tap the telephone line in parallel as this will
reduce signal strength.
❑ Use an ISP that has low data loss rate and provides sufficient Internet
bandwidth.
❑ Try not to use ISP dial-up connections and other applications that use push-
technology, which continuously download Internet traffic to your PC.
❑ Test if the connection is improved by making a VoIP Blaster call with all other
programs closed (except for the VoIP Blaster Dialer).
❑ Adjust/lower the modem speed to reduce error rate. This requires some
experimenting.
If your modem is connected at 50 Kbps or higher, try to reduce the connecting
speed to between 40 Kbps and 48 Kbps. Connecting the modem at high speed
will increase error rate, and therefore, cause the modem to spend more time
performing error correction.
❑ Try to use a serial modem as PCI modems may be subjected to interference
signals generated by the system.

Problems with 7KH#WHOHSKRQH#VHW#GRHV#QRW#ULQJ#ZKHQ#WKHUH#LV#DQ#LQFRPLQJ#FDOO1
Cause VoIP Blaster is built to conform to FCC Part 68 specifications. Generally
Telephones telephones that are meant for home use are compatible with VoIP Blaster as these
phones comply with these specifications. However, phones that are meant for use
with PBX systems are not supported as they do not comply with FCC Part 68
specifications.
Solution Use another telephone set with VoIP Blaster and see if the problem still occurs.

Cause The telephone that you use may not meet the specifications of FCC Part 68 and
thus the “on-hook” and “off-hook” status are not detected by VoIP Blaster. See
the explanation for the problem mentioned above.
Solution Use another telephone set with VoIP Blaster and see if the problem still occurs.

PDGH#WR#DQRWKHU#9R,3#%ODVWHU#XVHU1
Cause It may be due to the following:
❑ Although the other VoIP Blaster user may be connected to the Internet, he may
have disabled incoming PC-to-PC calls.
❑ The other VoIP Blaster user could be using a phone which does not meet the
specifications of FCC Part 68. Thus the “on-hook” and “off-hook” status are
not detected by his VoIP Blaster, and so his line appears to be busy.
Solutions Do the following:
❑ Make sure that the other VoIP Blaster user has selected the Enable incoming
PC-to-PC call in the Options menu of the VoIP Blaster Dialer.
❑ Make sure that the other VoIP Blaster user is using a telephone that meets the
specifications of FCC Part 68.
B-4 Troubleshooting
Frequently Asked 'RHV#9R,3#%ODVWHU#QHHG#WR#XVH#DQ#,54#VHWWLQJ"
No. VoIP Blaster does not use an IRQ setting. Thus it will not cause any I/O conflicts.
Questions (FAQs)
&DQ#,#XVH#D#VWDQGDUG#WHOHSKRQH#ZLWK#9R,3#%ODVWHU"
Yes. VoIP Blaster works with any standard touch-tone corded or cordless analog telephone
(FCC Part 68 approved). For more information about phone compatibility, see “Problems with
Telephones” on page B-4.
You can also use VoIP Blaster with the portable earpiece set which is included in the package
for hands-free usage. The earpiece set is “hot-swappable,” allowing you to switch from using a
standard telephone or the earpiece without shutting down the software or your computer. A
headphone icon is displayed on the VoIP Blaster Dialer interface when the earpiece is attached
to VoIP Blaster.

Since the earpiece set does not have an “off-hook” feature, to place calls, you need to click the
Call/Hang up button (red receiver icon) in VoIP Blaster Dialer and then dial using the numeric
keypad. The software will determine that you have completed entering the digits and then dial
the intended party. To hang-up or terminate the call, click the Call/Hang up button (green
receiver icon).
If there is an incoming call, the ringing can be heard on the VoIP Blaster device itself. To answer
the call, click on the Call/Hang up button.

B-6 Troubleshooting
Note on USB Compatibility
C
A small number of motherboards have USB ports that do not meet the USB specification
exactly. Unfortunately, VoIP Blaster may not operate correctly with these systems.

Some manufacturers of non-USB-compliant motherboards have released motherboard or BIOS

updates to address the problem.
If VoIP Blaster does not work on your system and you suspect that the problem may be related
to your PC’s USB port, the following is a list of available options:
1. Contact your PC vendor.
Your PC vendor may be able to upgrade your motherboard or its BIOS to a newer version
that addresses USB incompatibilities.
2. Use a PCI host adapter which provides USB connectors.
If you are not able to upgrade your motherboard or its BIOS, we recommend this approach.
3. Attach VoIP Blaster to a self-powered USB hub.
Some USB devices (such as monitors) also operate as self-powered USB hubs; you can also
buy dedicated powered USB hubs which are to be attached to your PC’s USB port. However,
in some cases, attaching a powered USB hub to a non-USB-compliant USB motherboard
connector will not solve the problem.

To look for a USB compatible product, you can visit the product search page at the official
USB web site: http://www.usb.org/app/search/products.
