Report
2006-2010
1
After the registration, the organization started to brainstorm over some of the
most pressing developmental issues prevailing in the state. Eventually,
GSNWS reached at a consensus that the lack of knowledge about computers is
a huge concern especially for the people inhabiting the rural areas of the state.
As there was no existing mechanism to inform the rural people about the
merits of computer education, the GSNWS team decided to conduct at least 1
Computer Education Camps every year in the rural areas of district Shimla.
Apart from organizing Free Computer Education Camps in the remote and
rural areas, the organization also stepped ahead towards enabling the poor
students to learn various aspects of basic computing without paying any fee.
GSNWS provided 100% concession to many students who could not afford the
fee to enroll in the Computer Education Course of 30 days’ duration. Although
the activities undertaken by the organization so far appear to be little efforts,
the organization is of the belief that these little efforts will be the key to a huge
transformation. In order to present a thorough overview of our yesteryears’
interventions, descriptive account of our activities is provided ahead for all
those who are concerned and are related to GSNWS in one way or the other.
2
In our first step towards assisting the students belonging to Below Poverty
Line (BPL) family background, GSNWS offered a helping hand to 4 students by
completely waiving off their fee for the Computer Course of 30 days duration.
This 100% concession on a fee of Rs. 500 per student provided by GSNWS
enabled 4 poor students to learn the fundamentals of Computers.

Continuing with our small but focused steps towards creating a Computer
Literate society, GSNWS organized the second Camp on Computer Education
at village Jhiknipul in Chopal block on 9th of May 2007. This year also, the Chief
Facilitator for the Camp was Mr. Nitin Sharma who was full with more
enthusiasm this year and better prepared to share his knowledge and skills
with the people of this remote and rural area. Mr. Sharma demonstrated the
way to use different computer applications that make general tasks so
convenient and easy. He trained the people over creating documents like
letter or application in MS Word. When asked by some young participants, Mr.
Sharma also demonstrated the method of playing different types of media files
like- audio and video.
At the end of the Camp, Mr. Sharma motivated the participants about learning
computers and said that in today’s world being literate means knowing how
to work on a computer. He told them to get themselves enrolled in a 30-day
Computer Course organized by GSNWS and its sister concern 'Wings
Academy' with a provision of full fee waiver to poor students.
The second Camp organized at Rampur was also a great success as over 150
participants attended the Camp and learnt various aspects of basic computing
from the Chief Facilitator Mr. Vinod Justa, a skilled and experienced member
of the General Body of GSNWS. Mr. Justa stated that all people should become
Computer literate if they want their children to be smart enough to face the
challenges of 21st Century workplaces.
Serving the society becomes a greater delight when creativity and passion
become the core ingredients of an initiative. GSNWS always follows this
principle in its work, irrelevant of the type, outreach and impact of the
program. Underpinning this spirit of community service, the organization
conducted its fifth-in-a-row free Computer Education Camp at village Shrog in
Ghanahatti area of district Shimla. The total number of participants was 92
and the Chief Facilitator was for the camp was Mr. Vinod Justa.
Mr. Justa interacted with the participants over general and specific usage of
computers and the relevant courses associated with it. Mr. Justa said that
though there are several courses on Computer Applications, it largely depends
upon the specific needs of a person that which course is suitable for what kind
of skills. He said that, for building the computer skills of a layman, a short
course on the Fundamentals of Computers will be more than enough. He also
informed the participants about the free Computer Course of 30 days duration
organized by GSNWS on yearly basis. Mr. Justa also presented a brief over the
content of this short-term course.
Maintaining the spirits and principles with which we initiated the Financial
Assistance program for the BPL students, GSNWS offered full rebate to 6 poor
students on their fee for the Course on the Fundamentals of Computers. Since
its beginning in the year 2006, this initiative has so far benefitted 32 poor
students and made a little but significant change in the society.
