The MSc in Finance addresses a range

work, and use of the trading

This course aims at preparing graduates
for leading roles in the global investment
community and within commercial
entities. It provides students with a
combined expertise in accounting and
corporate finance.
The Masters explores issues in accounting,
finance and strategy from the perspective of
those who will be involved in evaluating and
managing company performance.
Starting with basic principles in accounting
and finance, the course teaches students how
to assess performance and conduct valuation
of firms using complex financial accounting
information. In addition, the course provides
insights into company strategies and how to
manage cost systems within an organisation.
You will also acquire the research skills
necessary to undertake valuation. Candidates

It was a fantastic opportunity

I took a number of one-to-one
sessions with Cass’s careers
advisers to polish my CV. I also
attended presentations and
interview skills sessions.
I improved my interview skills
and learned to identify my
weak points. I must confess
that I evolved into a different
personality at Cass as my overall

This course is aimed at those wishing to
enter or advance their careers in the fields
of real estate investment management,
real estate finance and the securitised
real estate markets. It combines the rigour
of a mainstream finance course with the
direct application of financial theory and
techniques in a real estate context.
The Masters deals extensively with the
growth in the securitised real estate
markets of real estate investment trusts and
mortgage-backed securities. It also examines
the growing real estate derivatives market.
The programme is designed for students
with relevant undergraduate degrees or
work experience and strong quantitative
skills. It provides an ideal foundation for
those wishing to study for the Investment
Management Certificate or the Chartered
Financial Analyst examinations. It also
offers a route of entry to the UK Investment
Property Forum.
The syllabus shares a number of common
subjects with the MSc in Real Estate, and
covers core concepts and issues relating to
both real estate markets and quantitative
skills. The second and third terms expand
this knowledge base into the appropriate
areas for the two courses.
The Real Estate faculty at Cass is recognised
as one of the leading research groups in
Europe both in its high quality Masters
programmes and its industry-leading
research, and this expertise feeds directly
into the Masters programmes. The Real
Estate faculty is also the first in the UK to
be part of a finance department within a

In 2002, City University’s Business School
was renamed Sir John Cass Business School
following a generous donation towards
the development of its new building in
Bunhill Row. The School’s name is usually
abbreviated to Cass Business School.

Sir John Cass’s Foundation

Sir John Cass’s Foundation has supported
education in London since the 18th century
and takes its name from its founder, Sir John
Cass, who established a school in Aldgate in
1710. Born in the City of London in 1661, Sir
John served as an MP for the City and was
knighted in 1713.
