The list of acting awards both here
and overseas that Jacki Weaver
has been nominated for since her
performance as the chilling Grandma
Smurf in Animal Kingdom is as long
as your arm. She has won more than
a handful too, winning best actress
awards in Australia at both the AFI
and IF awards, and best supporting
actress gongs in the US from the
National Board of Review, the Los
Angeles Film Critics Awards, the
San Francisco Film Critics Awards,
Utah Film Critics Association
Awards, and the Satellite Awards.
But, as we go to print, with her shock nomination for best supporting actress
from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and having missed
out on a Golden Globe, Jacki Weaver is waiting on the ‘biggie’ of the awards
season – the Oscar.
In this fickle business, not only has Jacki Weaver had an enviable film and
theatre career spanning back 40 years or more, but our spies tell us that
she is also incredibly loyal, having been with the one talent management
company, International Casting Service, since she was 14 years old! Good
luck at the Oscars on February 27, Jacki!

Summer Coda is a beautiful love story set
amongst the orange groves of Mildura. Both
Heidi and Michael have painful secrets they
are afraid to reveal. The film stars Rachael
Taylor (Transformers, Bottle Shock, Cedar
Boys) and Alex Dimitriades (Head On, La
Spagnola), plus an amazing supporting
cast, including Susie Porter, Jacki Weaver,
Nathan Phillips, Angus Sampson and Cassandra Magrath. This
is the ideal DVD to grab for a lazy Sunday.

the silver screen.
According to Hollywood,
Australia grows leading men
and women on some magical
tree in the Outback purely
for the benefit of the next
blockbuster movie.
Chris Hemsworth, in the
same mould as last year’s
new hunk, Sam Worthington of Avatar and Clash of the
Titans, will start his film career with a bang (pardon
the pun) in Thor, a Marvel Comics/Paramount Pictures
production, directed by Kenneth Branagh and starring
Natalie Portman and Anthony Hopkins.
But unlike Sam Worthington, who really
came out of nowhere to emerge in
starring roles, Chris Hemsworth was
well known to many Aussies as Kim
Hyde in Home and Away. He moved
on from the soapie to roles in Star Trek
and Ca$h, but Thor will bring him to the
world’s attention.
