TO TAKE PART IN THE
6TH ANNUAL 4-H SHOOTING SPORTS DAY
Thirty-six youth from the counties of Clearfield, Jefferson
and McKean gathered at the DuBois Rifle & Pistol Club to
take part in the 6th Annual 4-H Shooting Sports Day on
Sunday, March 6th. The event was an air rifle competition
open to youth between the ages of 8 and 18 who are currently
enrolled in the 4-H Program. The following Mountain Top
Marksmen Club members participated in the competition:
Orion Alexis, Kevin Long, Alix Hezlep, Alexandria Flynn,
Jacob Lister, Samantha Hezlep, Billy McDowell, Ronald
Reynolds and Autumn Reynolds. Winners in the competition
were: Novice Division - Orion Alexis - 4thJunior Division -
Kevin Long - 3rd and Alix Hezlep - 5thIntermediate Division
- Jacob Lister - 3rd. In addition to the individual scores, the
youth were placed in teams prior to the start of the
competition. In the Novice Division, the team of Orion Alexis
and Ronald Reynolds finished third; the junior division team of
Alexandra Flynn, Alix Hezlep and Kevin Long finished 3rdthe
intermediate team of Samantha Hezlep, Jacob Lister, Billy
McDowell and Autumn Reynolds finished third. Jana
Davidson, 4-H Youth Development Educator for Clearfield
County said, “This was by far our largest contest to date and
all of the youth participants had a great time! Opportunities
to bring youth together from different counties and allow them
to meet new people are always valued.” 4-H is a non-formal
youth development educational program of Penn State
Cooperative Extension for all youth regardless of age, ancestry,
color, disability or handicap, national origin, race, religious
creed, sex, sexual orientation, gender identification, or veteran

Penny Brown was at a Little League baseball game. All
of a sudden, 10 year old Kevin Stephan was hit in the
chest with a bat. He collapsed and wasn’t responding.

maneuver on her with no success. So the waitress goes to
the back of the restaurant and calls out a teenaged
employee who’s a volunteer firefighter. He comes out,
does the Heimlich maneuver, and dislodges the food from
her airway, saving her life.
The firefighter’s name was Kevin Stephan. That’s right,
this now-17-year old young man was the 10 year-old
Little Leaguer whose life Penny had saved.
