Lead an 11-person team charged with producing timely, deeply reported, beautifully written,
intellectually challenging articles about U.S. politics. Help veteran reporters with decades of
experience sharpen their skills; ensure that rookie reporters with months of experience find their
voices. Increased subscription starts driven by my section 7x in my first year.

Senior Enterprise Editor
Senior newsroom leader coordinating the development, reporting, editing and publishing of
enterprise, investigative and feature stories for one of the world’s largest news websites. Ran 13-
reporter team focused on the intersection of politics and policy. Worked with writers of all levels
across the organization. Launched email newsletter to highlight original reporting, narrative
writing and breaking news that grew to nearly 200,000 subscribers in less than a year. Edited
stories that won the 2015 Knight Award for Public Service and the 2017 Writer’s Guild award.
Supervised a six-month investigation of jail deaths that was a finalist for 2016 Livingston Award.

Mother Jones (July 2007-May 2015)


Senior Editor (June 2013-May 2015); Previously News Ed., Associate Ed., Assistant Ed., DC Fellow
Planned coverage and edited, mentored, and managed more than a dozen journalists at leading
national news website and investigative journalism magazine. Helped turn small, San Francisco-
based magazine’s website into respected, widely read source for daily political news. Wrote more
than 1000 items for print and online. Broke news on torture, health care, the 2011 Tucson shooting,
elections, the White House emails scandal, and abortion politics—including the 2011 "forcible rape"
controversy. Pioneered "explainer” coverage of breaking news events. Promoted four times.

Wrote hundreds of posts for Gulliver, which the London Times recognized as one of the web’s best
business travel blogs. Wrote about business, travel, and American politics for the print magazine,
website and other Economist Group properties. Helped launch The Economist's US politics blog.

Yale Daily News (2002-2006)


Reporter, Columnist, Production Designer, and Sports Editor
Managed more than 30 writers, edited hundreds of articles, supervised coverage, and worked more
than 35 hours each week to publish an acclaimed daily sports section. Wrote more than 140 articles,
designed hundreds of pages, and covered the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy.
