Introduction
This one assignment within the module will address all of the module’s learning outcomes. You are
required to produce a report that addresses the questions in the five Tasks.

You are required to produce a report that critically analyses the differing perspectives that have been
explored in current literature in attempting to explain the process of Task Management within
organisations. The report should provide a critical analysis of current thinking rather than a description
taken from source material. The focus of your report should be on current thinking on issues raised in the
following Tasks - the examples and descriptions of the Tasks are not the primary aim of the report.

Task 1 – 20 Marks
Specifying the Task
Provide a short discussion on the critical attributes of specifying Task objectives. Your answer should
include discussion of technical and non-technical issues. What are the likely consequences if Task
objectives are not properly defined? Illustrate your answer with the use of examples.

Task 2 – 25 Marks
Planning the Task
Discuss the purpose of resource management techniques. Using examples, show how resource and time
management techniques can help to develop a project plan.

Task 3 – 15 Marks
Leadership and Management
In relation to Task Management, discuss how different leadership styles can help managers improve
motivation within their project teams.

Task 4 – 20 Marks
Mentoring and Coaching
In order to manage change, mentoring and coaching techniques can be used.
Describe the differences between ‘mentoring’ and ‘coaching’.
Provide a short discussion on how these techniques can be used in Task Management.

Task 5 – 20 Marks
Communication
There can be many barriers to communication. Identify and discuss which barriers to communication may
have an impact on Task Management.
Your discussion should include a short section indicating ways of overcoming these barriers.

Guidance
Consult with your tutor/lecturer if you are uncertain about any aspects of the assignment.
