ACC wins national ARTS award
By Paul Weideman
‘It’s like the Oscars of the furniture world,” ACC owner
Leslie Livingston said about the store’s recent ARTS Award.
The Santa Fe firm won the top award for the Midwest/

Store.
It was the 22nd annual ARTS Award event, which is
sponsored by Accessories Resource Team, Charlotte, N.C.,
in partnership with the Dallas Market Center.
ACC was formerly known as American Country
Collection and carried a correspondingly traditional line.
Today, the store swings equally into the contemporary
design realm with it’s very eclectic “transitional” mix.
“We have antiques from India and other parts of Asia

Chip. “We kind of go in spurts, depending on what we’re
finding. At one time we were buying a ton of Dutch
pine and now it’s a lot from the Alsatian region. I think
it’s because that area has not been mined as heavily for
antiques.”
Leslie Livingston takes nearly 10 yearly trips to High
Point, N.C., Atlanta, Dallas, New York, and San Francisco
to find furniture and accessories.
The fact that ACC has stayed small has probably helped
stay healthy in a down economy. “We have been asked

Team busy out at Rancho San Lucas

O ne of the hard lessons for builders in recent years is

that doing a spec home with the expectation it will
sell anytime soon can be a dangerous venture. E.J. Jennings
must have the right formula, because he has sold four specs
in recent months.
The homes are being built in Rancho San Lucas, located
off U.S. 285 south of Eldorado, and then a mile down
the dirt Spur Ranch Road. In mid-March, Jennings was
working on the seventh of 29 planned houses.
The modernistic homes feature hard corners and long,
horizontal windows and recesses, and a spare aesthetic
inside. Walking through No. 6, you notice the warm,
integral-color poured concrete floors and the
dominant living-room fireplace, a rectangular
firebox toward the bottom of a tall, rectangular
slab of plaster: simple and elegant. Glass doors
open onto a walled courtyard.
The kitchen sports a backsplash of shiny,
colorful tile, Euro-style (Ikea) cabinets,
stainless-steel appilances, countertops of
recycled-limestone tile, and a big, double apron
sink.
“You see the hard-edged, contemporary
interpretation of Pueblo style but there’s also

warmth and earthiness,” said developer Mary
Anne Stickler. “The exposed-wood ceiling and
