UPAA Toronto will hold its 2nd Annual Benefit Golf Tournament – Tee UP High – on
Saturday May 28, 2011. The purpose is to raise much needed funds to help improve
tertiary education in the Philippines. University alumni groups in Toronto believe that
we can help the country emancipate itself from chronic poverty, improve standard of
living, and reduce people’s dependency on immigration for their basic survival.

Money raised through these tournaments will go to UPAA Toronto’s Endowment Fund
which supports scholarships for needy but deserving students, as well as for
professorial chairs that help retain valuable teaching staff. We invite you to review the
enclosed relevant information.

assistance will go a very long way in helping us pave a better future for education in the

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

In any developing country, emancipation from chronic poverty depends heavily

on the availability and quality of education, especially on tertiary education where
applied skills in science, business and industry are learned. In the Philippines, this
cannot be over emphasized.

Educational institutions are often handicapped by a serious shortage of financial

resources needed to meet the demands of a growing population for quality education.
As a result, these institutions find themselves unable to extend educational services to a
wider sector of society. Many students with great potential for success are often denied
the proper training to make them effective contributors to nation building. It is therefore
imperative that the private sector, notably business and alumni communities, step in
and try and fill in as much of the gap as possible.

OUR VISION

UPAA Toronto is recognized as a catalyst among Filipino expatriate groups for

raising the standard of higher education in the Philippines through Grants and
Scholarship programs

OUR MISSION

Extend the benefits of quality tertiary education to poor but deserving students

THE OBJECTIVES

• To raise funding levels of the UPAA Toronto-sponsored University of the

Philippines Endowment Funds
• To raise $25,000 by June 2011
