The Scoop On This

Upcoming Hurricane
Season
The latest prediction for the Atlantic Hurricane Season is now
in. The Tropical Meteorology Project (Dr. Gray and Dr.
Klotzbach) out of Colorado State University expect the upcom-
ing season to be almost twice as active as the average season.

-16 Named Storms (9.6 is normal)

-9 Hurricanes (5.9 is normal)
-5 Considered Intense (category 3 or more – wind speeds 111
mph or more) 2.3 intense hurricanes are normal for a season.

Here’s the probability for at least one major hurricane (category 3, 4, 5) making landfall on
each of the following coastal areas:

1) Entire U.S. coastline - 72% (average for last century is 52%)

2) U.S. East Coast Including Peninsula Florida - 48% (average for last century is
31%)
3) Gulf Coast from the Florida Panhandle westward to Brownsville - 47% (average
for last century is 30%)
4) Caribbean – The team's prediction for the probability for at least one major hurricane
tracking into the Caribbean:
61% (average for last century is
42%)

Tees built for distance

Tef Tees are Teflon-coated golf tees designed to lower friction and therefore in-
crease distance. Two of the top seven finishers at the 2011 Masters used them. Tested
by
a national lab, the resulting drives were 2.5 yards farther than
other nonfriction tees and 6.5 yards farther
than wood tees.
