week, due to budget constraints, still we plan to

County set for May 15
Baccalaureate celebration for the
senior class of 2011 at Tri County High
School gym is set for 6 p.m. on May 15.
This year’s Baccalaureate, The Dash,
is a faith celebration designed by the se-
nior class. All seniors are invited to par-
ticipate and attend with their families and
friends. This service will include worship,
testimonies by the seniors, skit/drama, a
special message by Coach Todd Simmons,
and a time of prayer and dedication of our
seniors to God’s keeping grace.

Area Community Expo
Congratulations go out to Stacy Frodl,
owner of Sticks-N-Stones, Etc. winner of
the Panhandle Area Chamber of Com-
merce Chamber Bucks. Stacy’s ticket
was drawn at the 2011 Community Expo
held at the Tri County High School Fri-
day, April 29th. To get into the drawing,
Stacy turned in her receipts from shop-
ping Panhandle Area Chamber member
businesses. For each receipt validated,
she received an entry into the Chamber’s

drawing.
As the winner, she received $250 in
Chamber Bucks Gift Certificates, redeem-
able at Panhandle Area Chamber of Com-
merce members. “The Panhandle Area
Community Expo is a great opportunity
for my business to showcase it’s prod-
ucts. Winning the drawing was icing on
the cake!” says Stacy.
In past years, the Chamber held draw-
ings for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place, each re-
ceiving a cash prize. Once the money was
awarded, there was no assurance that the
funds would be spent in our local com-
munities. To ensure this, the Chamber
Bucks keeps the money local and helps
our businesses.
“The concept and participation was
successful” stated Marianne VanBen-

Stroke Third Leading Cause of Death
in U.S.
GREENVILLE, Mich., May 3, 2011
– Every 45 seconds someone in America
has a stroke. In fact, stroke is the third
leading cause of death in this country and
a leading cause of disability. An estimat-
ed two-thirds of stroke survivors require
long-term rehabilitation as a result of
having experienced a stroke.
Spectrum Health United and Kelsey
hospitals will work to increase awareness
about the impact of stroke by holding
several events in May, National Stroke
Awareness Month. A stroke occurs when
a blood clot blocks an artery, or a blood
vessel breaks interrupting blood flow to
an area of the brain. Eighty percent of
strokes can be avoided if people under-
stand and manage their own individual
risk factors.

stroke risk evaluations will be conducted
one-on-one by Spectrum Health profes-

Pierson Outdoor Market scheduled to open June 10

The Pierson Township board approved con-
struction of the Pierson Outdoor Market located
.04 miles west of US131 Pierson Exit 114.The 5
acre market will be easily accessible to vendors and
customers alike. The Pierson Outdoor Market will
feature 60 – 20X30 stalls with ample free custom-
er parking and admission. 12 events are planned
beginning June 10, 2011 and running every other
Friday through the end of September. Stacy Frodl,
owner of Sticks-N-Stones Etc in Pierson and part-
ner in the market says “This will be a Farmers mar-
ket, a Flea market, a Crafters market and a Garage
sale market all rolled in to one.” Live animal sales
and Concession food sales are prohibited.
The Pierson Outdoor Market is located with-
in walking distance of Sticks-N-Stones Etc (a full
menu Burger and Ice-Cream shop) and J&H Family
store (a convenience store and Mobil gas station),
also the Loons Nest Golf and Grill is right around
the corner.
Bands are being booked for each event day to
promote customer and vendor attendance. The

Artist Information:
For nearly three decades, Blue Öyster
Cult has been thrilling fans of rock world-
wide with powerful albums loaded with
classic songs. Blue Öyster Cult occupies a
unique place in rock history because it’s
one of very few bands to earn both genu-
ine mainstream critical acclaim as well as
commercial success. The band is often cit-
ed as a major influence by other acts such
as Metallica. BÖC was also listed in VH1’s

Upon the release of BÖC’s self-titled
debut album in 1972, the band was praised
for its catchy-yet-heavy music and lyrics
that could be provocative, terrifying, funny

mos long after the sun has burned out: The
truly haunting “(Don’t Fear) The Reaper”

increases in our patient volumes
across all of our service lines.
The number of yearly emer-
gency room visits at United
Hospital has increased from
approximately 12,500 visits in
2003 to an expected 30,000 vis-
its by 2012.
When United hospital was
constructed in 1952, the over-
whelming nature of care was
inpatient based and the hospi-
tal was designed to accommo-
date this mode of care. Today,
because of new technology and
advanced medical techniques,
70 percent of United Hospital’s
business is now performed on
an outpatient basis. This reno-
vation will make the necessary
changes to address this evolu-
tion in healthcare, allowing
hospital outpatient areas to be
more efficient, private and pa-
tient friendly.
Bonis believes this expan-
sion will set the stage for further
growth and economic develop-
ment in the Greenville area.
“This is a necessary and sig-
nificant investment in our com-
munity at a critical juncture for
Greenville and our surrounding
communities. Investing now
in the core services of our com-
munity such as our schools and
our hospitals, even in these dif-
ficult economic times, will pay
huge dividends for the growth
and prosperity of our commu-
nity well into the future,” said
Bonis.

Hospital will be upgraded and
enlarged in order to meet the
demands of existing patient vol-
ume as well as provide capacity
for expected future growth.

has been designed to maximize
the use of available property,

The expansion will increase
current patient treatment areas
from 11 to 28. Additionally, the
emergency department expan-
sion and renovation will in-
clude:

rect access from the ambulance
entrance
Two gynecology rooms
An orthopedic treatment
room
Sixteen private exam rooms
An isolation room
A patient holding room
Four observation rooms
A new faster and safer CTAll
treatment bays will be private.
The 140 square foot rooms will
include a caregiver zone, a pa-
tient zone and a family zone.
The exam rooms will be de-
signed to maximize flexibility
patient convenience and opera-
tional efficiency.
An additional, crucial aspect
of the plan includes the reloca-
tion of the CT scanner and other
imaging equipment to space
directly accessible by the ED.
This will minimize time needed
to provide emergency patients
with vital diagnostic services re-
quired.

Patient registration will be
relocated closer to the front
doors of the hospital. The goal
is to make patient registration
more accessible and confiden-
tial. Patient check in and regis-

fort during this process.
Diagnostic imaging will
undergo a complete transfor-
mation in order to support the
department’s current and future
needs. Rooms and hallways will
be expanded and designed to
accommodate new technology
and increase patient flow. The
new imaging area also includes
a dedicated women’s center,
complete with separate chang-
ing and waiting areas to create
a more dignified and private
treatment area for female pa-
tients. Additionally, dedicated
spaces for digital mammogra-
phy, stereo-tactic biopsy, Dexa
(densitometry) and ultrasound
will be included within the
women’s center.

The ordeal of buying a new

car. You know you’re not
supposed to walk out pay-
ing sticker price. But you’re
thinking “I’m no good at
bargaining.” And, “I always
end up buying sticker price!”
It’s time to stop that kind of
thinking by learning the way
out of the ordeal of buying.
You have to bargain up, not
down.
The key is up. The key to
buying any new major ticket
item is to find out what the
seller paid for it, start from
there, and bargain up. Find-
ing the dealer’s wholesale
price is something you, and
you alone, have to do, and
you have to make sure you
get correct, up to date in-
formation. Once you have
the dealer’s wholesale, or
“invoice” price, on the base
package and on all the fac-
tory-installed options and
packages you want, you’ll be
able to figure out the dealer’s
wholesale cost for the very
new car you’re looking at.
And you’ll be halfway to
saving money. You’ll have
the dealer’s “sticker” price,
which is where the dealer
wants to start bargaining, but
you’ll start bargaining from
the wholesale cost – the place
YOU want to start.
There are several places you
can get the dealer’s whole-
sale, or “invoice” cost on a
new car or other item. The
one I prefer, hands down, is
Consumer Reports. Consum-
er Reports (consumerreports.
org) has been around for de-
cades. It’s an organization
dedicated to helping consum-
ers learn more about prod-
ucts, how safe they are, how
reliable they are, what they’re
selling for, and what dealers
pay for them. If you’re not in-
ternet savvy yet, no problem.
By calling Consumer Reports
at 1-800-657-7378 you can
reach their New Car Pricing
Service and order a mailed or
faxed copy of the “dealer in-
voice” information you want.
There is a charge but it’s just a
few bucks small – very small
- compared to how much
you’ll save when you bargain
up instead of down. People
who bargain up from whole-
sale save about $2,500 on the
average new car. $25.00 for
wholesale cost information is
worth a $2,500 savings.
