SURFIX ECO 100

NANO-CERAMIC COATING PHOSPHATE FREE FOR STEEL, ZINC AND ALUMINIUM SURFACES

Surfix ECO 100 is a phosphate free coating, suitable to treat all kind of surfaces from steel to zinc and aluminium. This
coating enhances the metallic surface corrosion resistance, obtaining results similar or even superior to the ones obtained
through iron base phosphate with a subsequent non-chromic passivation. Besides, it improves the corrosion resistance
of painted metallic surfaces. This coating is compatible with any paint type.

Surfix ECO 100 can be applied by spray / dip, immersion or roll at room temperature, being necessary a subsequent
rinse with deionized water.

Advantages :
• It produces a nano-ceramic coat over metallic substrates, increasing the anticorrosion protection, obtaining,
results comparable to Fe base phosphate plus a subsequent non-chromium passivation.
• Uniform coating with a slightly golden shade.
• Free from any hard metal, phosphate and VOC
• Phosphate free, not generating sludge.
• BOD or COD free
• Low enegry cost, working at room temperature with treatment times of around 20 – 120 s.
• It does not need any passivation being the application multi-metal.

Bath Make Up :

∗ Fill up the tank with deionized water until ¾ of its capacity and then add the calculated amount of Surfix ECO 100.
∗ Adjust with water until final volume and stir to homogenize the solution.
∗ Check the pH, as the bath should work at a pH ranging from 3.5 - 4.5, if necessary add ammonia
25% to correct it.
∗ Per each 1000 lt. of bath - Surfix ECO 100 : 70 - 90lt.keeping the agitation.

Working Conditions :

Working conditions are related to the treatment times :

∗ 20 – 45 Sec. : Bath make up at 9% v/v

∗ 45 – 70 Sec. : Bath make up at 8% v/v
∗ 70 - 120 Sec. : Bath make up at 7% v/v

pH : 3.5 - 4.5
Concentration : 7 – 9%
Total Acidity : 0.4 - 0.8 ml.
Free Acidity : 0.2 - 0.3 ml.
Time : 20 – 120 Sec.
Temperature : Room temperature (20 - 40°C)
Aspersion pressure : 0.5 ~ 1.5 kg/cm2

It could be necessary to adjust the parameters, prior to an evaluations and documentation, depending on the line
conditions.

Process Description
• Pre-degreasing (optional)
• Alkaline degreasing
• Water cleaning
• Distilled water cleaning
• Surfix ECO 100
• Distilled water cleaning.(optional)
• Oven dry at 80 - 120°C. 10 – 20 min.

Testing and Control

A) Total Acid
Pipette out 10 ml bath solution into 200 ml conical flask, add 5 drops of phenolphthalein, Then titrate against 0.1
N NaOH upto pink end point.The number of ml of 0.1 N NaOH required for the titration shows the total acid points.
The concentration of Surfix ECO 100 can be judged as follows :

B) Free Acid
Pipette out 10 ml bath solution into 200 ml conical flask, add 5 drops of bromophenol blue, Then titrate against
0.1 N NaOH upto blue end point.The number of ml of 0.1 N NaOH required for the titration shows the free acid points.

C) pH : By calibrated pH meter. To increase the pH use 25 % ammonia, to decrease use surfix additive pH.(The quantity
of pH correcting chemicals can be decided as per the working line.)

D) The bath sample will be analysed in Growel’s Laboratory once in 2 months.

E) The approximate consumption of Surfix ECO 100 will be 5 - 10 ml/sq.mt. However, the actual consumption pattern
can be studied as per the working line.

F) Discard Frequency
The bath deteriorates due to carry over, quality of water and continuous usage. The fresh bath can be made once
in a six month depending on the coating quality.As such the discard frequency can be decided on the actual working line.

Handling

Surfix ECO 100 is acid and contains fluoride complexes, therefore it can produce burns. Handle with the usual precautions
taken with this kind of products. Avoid contact with skin, eyes and garments. Do not inhale. In case of splashed rinse
with plenty of water and ask for medical assistance.
