Peer Critique Form ‐ Literature Review

It is important that you, the critiquer, actually give honest feedback. However, you must deliver your
assessment kindly and be sensitive to one another’s feelings. Try to critique in a positive way, in the spirit of
helpfulness. If you are being critiqued, please be as open as you can to the helpful feedback of your
colleagues.
We will be working in groups of three. You will be assigned to read and critique two papers. I will be sending
these to you on 2/24. Read the papers that have been assigned to you. After reading once through go back
and begin your assessment.
Format:
1. First, does the paper meet the minimum format requirements?
Is the length is at least 1250 to 1500 words (5 pages) :Yes/No
Is there a clear Introduction? :Yes/No
Is there a clear body in which articles are discussed? :Yes/No
Is there a clear conclusion? :Yes/No
Is there a reference list? :Yes/No
2. Look at the sources:
Are there 5 sources? :Yes/No

Are all of the sources from journals or other scholarly sources? :Yes/No

3. Next, I would like for you to do a line edit of the paper; this means to proofread line‐by‐line. Look for
spelling and punctuation errors. Look for awkward grammar, improper word choice, and unclear
sentences.
Mark on the paper correcting mistakes and commenting in the margins as needed.
4. Overall, how would you rate the mechanics of the paper?

Development:
In this section you will really concentrate on what is said in the paper. Remember this is a literature
review. The goal is to provide a general background on the topic and discuss the findings of studies that
are related and relevant to the topics you will be investigating. At minimum this should be a thorough
summary and critique of at least five articles. Better still is a synthesis of these articles comparing one
against the other and teasing out the elements that will be most useful in your own research project. At
the same time, it should be well written, engaging to the reader, and logically organized.
