Monitoring & Habitat Restoration

Field Training &Work Day

The Alliance for the Great Lakes is partnering with the Chicago Park District and
local volunteers (that means you!) to monitor and restore coastal habitats. As a volunteer,
you commit to receive technical training, help collect important data using science-based
investigations, engage in habitat restoration activities with local experts, and report your
findings. This is a unique opportunity to help restore and protect Lake Michigan - by
participating you can make a difference!

Date: Saturday, June 25


Time: 9:00am-12:00pm (collect field data); 1:00pm-4:00pm (conduct habitat restoration)
Location: Rainbow Beach, 3111 West 77th Street, Chicago Illinois

A light lunch & refreshments will be provided ● All tools and equipment will be provided

What to Expect…
Technical Training
• complete a 1 hour online training course on how to collect field data
• learn a variety of habitat restoration techniques from local experts
Collect Data
• get out in the field and collect valuable data
Restore Unique Coastal Habitats
• get your hands dirty with local experts and help restore unique coastal habitats
Provide Valuable Feedback
• submit your data and complete a survey to help improve this program

participation in the Habitat Restoration Workshop may involve hazardous activity. I agree to accept and
assume all risk and danger incidental to the Habitat Restoration Workshop even occurring prior to, during, or
subsequent to the actual cleanup event including but not limited to the risk of physical injury, mental injury,
emotional distress, trauma, death, contract with other participants, equipment failure, inadequate safety
equipment, the effect of weather including extreme temperature or conditions, traffic, contact with motor
vehicles of all types and descriptions, contact with trash of unknown origin, or conditions of the shoreline. I
waive any and all specific notice of the existence of the risks and hazards. In consideration of being allowed to
participate, I agree to release, hold harmless, defend and indemnify the Alliance for the Great Lakes, board,
staff, park districts, beach authorities and their representatives, singly or collectively, of all blame for any
injury, misadventure, harm, loss, or inconvenience suffered as a result of taking part in Adopt-a-Beach or in
any of the activities associated with it. In addition, I hereby grant permission to the Alliance for the Great Lakes
to use my name and photographs or any other record of my participation in this event for any purpose.
