Practice  Greenhealth  members  named  among
Newsweek’s  greenest  companies

(Reston,  Virginia)  Four  Practice  Greenhealth  member  companies  have  been  named  for
superior  environmental  performance  and  initiatives  by  Newsweek  magazine,  which
published  the  rankings  in  its  2010  Green  Rankings  report.  The  rankings  are  a  data-‐driven
assessment  of  the  500  largest  publicly  companies  in  the  U.S.  and  the  100  largest  publicly
traded  companies  in  the  world.

Publicly  traded  Practice  Greenhealth  member  companies  that  made  the  top  500  U.S.
green  rankings  include  Johnson  &  Johnson  (#4),  Becton  Dickinson  (#24),  Hospira  (#74)
and  Stryker  (#273).  Johnson  &  Johnson  was  also  among  the  greenest  companies  in
Newsweek’s  Top  100  global  list,  ranked  third.

“We  are  delighted  to  see  these  Practice  Greenhealth  member  companies  named  by
Newsweek  for  their  dedication  to  reducing  their  environmental  impact,”  said  Anna
Gilmore  Hall,  Executive  Director  of  Practice  Greenhealth.  “Their  accomplishments
exemplify  those  of  our  other  business  members,  who  are  committed  to  the  highest
standards  of  sustainability  in  product  development,  manufacturing,  distribution,  and
life-‐cycle.  A  manufacturer’s  commitment  to  social  and  environmental  responsibility  is
driving  a  growing  number  of  purchasing  decisions  within  healthcare.”

To  produce  the  2010  Green  Rankings,  NEWSWEEK  collaborated  with  research
organizations  and  an  organization  that  tracks  corporate  social  responsibility,
sustainability,  and  environmental  reports.  The  goal  of  the  rankings  was  to  assess  each
company’s  actual  environmental  footprint  and  management  of  that  footprint  (including
policies  and  strategies),  along  with  its  reputation  among  environmental  experts.

Newsweek’s  U.S.  500  list  includes  the  largest  publicly  traded  U.S.  companies,  and  the
Global  100  list  includes  the  largest  publicly  traded  companies  based  in  developed  and
emerging  markets.  Company  size  was  evaluated  according  to  revenue  (most  recent
fiscal  year),  market  capitalization,  and  number  of  employees,  all  as  of  March  31,  2010.
