Study Conclusions

• The preferred annular fluid velocity ratio is 1. When ratio of a slurry is


not equal to 1, the TOC on the wide and the narrow side of an
annulus will be different.
• Generally, the more “viscous” the fluid the higher the velocity ratio,
with all other parameters held equal.
• In most instances, an annular fluid velocity ratio of approximately 1
can be achieved with an optimized combination of casing
centralization, pump rate, and fluid rheology.
• When a fluid velocity ratio of 1 can not be achieved the amount of
cement excess may need to be adjusted to achieve the desired
cement top height on the narrow and the wide sides of the annulus.
• When a high degree of casing centralisation is difficult to obtain and
when a velocity ratio of approximately 1 is required, then “low
viscosity” fluids (muds, flushes, spacers, and cements) may be
required.
