Tyonek, Jacksonville, FL 03/2007 - 08/2008
Aviation Structures Mechanic
* Contractor for Naval Air station Jacksonville Naval rework Facility. Worked F/
A-18 center barrel.
* Worked in the fixture. Broke down the aircraft into three sections. Removed
the nose first this involved the removal of all the Hi-Loks out of the 453 forme
r. Through the use of hydraulic rams the nose section of the aircraft was broke
loose. After that the fasteners are removed from the forward section of the 497
former. Again Hydraulic rams are used break the old center barrel loose. After i
t is removed it is craned out of the way. Then the rest of the 497 fasteners are
removed. After that it is removed. The new 497 former is installed & drilled to
the existing holes on the Aircraft. Most of these holes are high tolerance hol
es for the installation of eddy bolts. The tolerance holes are sold to quality a
ssurance. The 497 former is then wet sealed in place & celicos are installed. Th
is former is a critical area as involves intake work. All countersinks for the e
ddy bolts are to be no negative flush. Would work the forward titanium keel long
eron. This part is drilled to existing structure holes. There are bolt holes whe
re this part is sandwiched & there is limited access. The angularity of these ho
les is critical. The rest of the holes are all high tolerance for installation o
f Hi-Loks.
* While working for contractor, saved the company time & money by cutting time.
Drilled center keel webs up in half the time allotted. I drilled up the old 703
exterior skins to print. This involved aligning the shin to the existing holes &
drilling
high tolerance holes. There are over 300 holes to drill. Didn't miss drill or bl
ow out a single hole. I sold all to quality assurance. Then with a co-worker, in
stalled the 703 skin according to print. Had both shot & bucked brilles rivets
made of titanium, aluminum, and monel. While bucking rivets for this panel it wa
s in the fuel cell. This panel had over 700 fasteners.
* While working the inside of the tank, was responsible to sell the installation
of the skin Quality assurance found a total of six discrepancies. Drilled up b
oth the left & right side of the 453 interface. This is the interface that holds
on the forward section of the aircraft. These are all high tolerance holes dril
led with existing holes from the forward section of the aircraft. I was the pivo
t person inside the tank for installation of Hi-loks through the 453 interface.
on blunt line 10 these holes are rivets and Hi-loc. These holes a then checked
for Quality. Did this for a month.
