CAREER PLAN
I began my pathology training at George Washington University medical center in
July 1999 and finished my residency in June 2003. I was selected as the Chief R
esident from July 2002 to June 2003. I completed my fellowship in cytology in J
une 2004. Following that I did one year of training (fellowship) in surgical pa
thology, which finished in July 2005. Throughout pathology residency, I have be
en primarily responsible for several interdisciplinary conferences, including br
east oncology and surgical oncology pathology correlation conferences. This has
allowed for continued utilization and further development of communicative and
interpersonal skills that I recognize as an essential for a successful career in
pathology.
The George Washington clinical pathology training was particularly strong in hae
matopathology, and included an on-call experience that heavily emphasized covera
ge of the university transfusion and haematology service.
As a cytology fellow I have continued to develop my diagnostic skills, being act
ively involved in the fine needle aspiration service including in-patient and ou
tpatients clinic. The training in cytology included both Gyn and non-Gyn samples
and was mainly based on liquid based preparation as well as conventional smears
. My experience performing fine needle aspirations has satisfied my desire for
direct involvement with patients, while simultaneously providing diagnostic chal
lenges that I find rewarding. Being involved in quality assurance (cytology/his
tology correlation) and reporting at monthly departmental conference has provide
d experience with management and QA issues. I have been involved in clinical re
search and presented a poster at the American Society of Cytopathology meeting i
n November 2004. I have done few Audit presentaion in Uk as well being Involved
in Educational quality assurance ( Proficiency test) in GYN and breast patholo
gy as well as GYN cytology.
I am seeking a position in histopathology and cytopathology that will allow me
to utilize my skills in general surgical pathology and cytopathology.

PATHOLOGY EXPERIENCE
During the rotations in surgical pathology, as a resident I was responsible for
the gross examination and evaluation of a range of specimens that varied from sm
all biopsies to large complex cases. Under the supervision of attending patholo
gist, I performed dictated gross descriptions, submitted pertinent tissue sectio
ns, reviewed histologic sections and ancillary studies, and completed pathology
reports of all specimens assigned to me. I also assisted in the performance of
intraoperative consultations using both cryostat sections and cytology smears.
During the cytopathology rotation, as a resident I was responsible for the exami
nation and diagnostic evaluation of both gynaecologic and non-gynecologic specim
ens in liquid based preparation as well as conventional smears. I also performe
d and interpreted fine needle aspiration specimens.
During my autopsy and forensic pathology rotations I performed about 80 autopsy
cases, including dissecting organs as well as evaluation for any pathology abnor
mality.
I gained experience in clinical pathology and laboratory medicine including clin
ical chemistry, microbiology, transfusion medicine, haematopathology, flow-cytom
etry and molecular diagnostic.
In my fellowship in cytopathology I received comprehensive training in all aspec
ts of cytopathology with emphasis on fine needle aspiration. In George Washingt
on Hospital most needle aspiration are performed by pathologists. I was in char
ge of FNA clinic. I performed about 400 FNA's of thyroid, breast and soft tissu
es. The training was mainly based on liquid based preparation as well as conven
tional smears.
As a fellow in surgical pathology I was involved in examinations of extensive su
rgical pathology specimens from essentially all organs and tissues. I was respo
nsible to supervise the training residents in the gross room and acting as a jun
ior attending/consultant in the department. I was also responsible for signing-
out surgical pathology cases and producing final reports.
I have achieved a great deal of experience during my Practice in Englands, worki
ng as consultatnt in Cyto/ Histopathology in a busy department( 28000 surgical p
lus 26000 Gyn cytology3000 non-gyn cytology ) when there is just 7 pathologist.
RESEARCH EXPERIENCE
LIQUID- BASED PREPARATION IN THE DIAGNOSIS OF PAPILLARY LESIONS OF THE BREAST BY
RADIOLOGICALLY GUIDED FINE NEEDLE ASPIRATION (FNA)
The project was mainly based on the importance of the liquid based preparation i
n the diagnosis of papillary lesions of the breast by radiologically guided FNA.
In this project the Thinprep smears of breast cases which were diagnosed with pa
pillary lesions from the year 2002 to 2004 were reviewed and correlated with the
corresponding histologic specimens and establishing the diagnostic criteria's o
f a papillary lesions on the Thinprep smears.
