With scars, melting and Tschingderassassa

New Year's Eve concert with Simone Young and the Philharmonic

Not the musical joke, the grotesque or the entertainment value of lighter music are the themes of the Philharmonic New Year concerts
under Simone Young, but the anniversaries of selected composers of the next year, and their partially constructed connecting lines
between them. Or to specific regions such as the historic city of Rome. "Salut!" It said again on the morning of New Year's Day in the
Laeiszhalle, and the head of the Hamburg Philharmonic moderated tempered by a sumptuous program in which they too had a lot of
non-slipped anniversaries.
Often, a balanced program can in fact not alone define a calendar, and Young, it was also at the heart to beat cross-links with other
projects such as "Mahler in Hamburg. This served her as a symphonic scherzo of Mahler's Hamburg friend Josef Bohuslav Foerster,
from whose memoirs she quoted a few lines describing Mahler. Unlike Mahler unfolds in this set of Foerster's Fourth Symphony in a
classic, romantic and idyllic, the Philharmonic brought delightfully to the blades.
Had begun with the dashing matinee Amboise Thomas' overture to the opera "Raymond", an adaptation of the adventures substance
"The Man in the Iron Mask. What Young described as "cheerful" music presented, rather than defiant, resolute represents music
dramas, in which there was no lack of intense percussion and elegiac cantilenas Tschingderassassa. On the occasion of the 85th
Birthday of Hans Werner Henze in the coming year, the Philharmonic played his orchestral fantasy "Erlkönig". Young pointed out the
cleverly hidden items in the Schubert song soundtrack, but unfortunately missed it, they even have to play short, so that every listener
would have to find out.

A highlight was the vivid orchestral writing "hovercraft" of the film music composer Joby Talbot, who next year is only 40 years old.
Similar to former Arthur Honegger in his piece dedicated to a locomotive "Pacific 231" is Talbot movement and state of suspension of
the famous boat in musical scene. A feast for the philharmonic orchestra was then but the orchestration of Franz Liszt's piano piece
"Feux follets" by the Hungarians Leo Weiger, in which flute and sparkling cascades dissolve jumping in the rest of the orchestra
registers.

Hell bells and slim then sounded the voices of young singers from the International Opera Studio, Melissa Petit and Juhee Min, who
sang the Flower Duet from Léo Delibes' "Lakme."
Have to do the winds, had also in Hans Pfitzner's boldly designed harmoniously incidental music to Kleist's "Katherine of Heilbronn,
where only the principal trumpet slipped away even a sound.
They mean well, but only limited strange was the appearance of a construction worker dressed as an opera singer, the Philharmonic
because of its dilapidated state of the music hall called on the to leave the room, but eventually the audience a gossip concert with
Richard Rodney Bennett's waltz from "Murder on the Orient Express" animated too. hpe
