What is SRM/SAP SRM
3 comments What is SRM/SAP SRM ?
Supplier relationship management is a comprehensive approach to managing an ente
rprise's interactions with the organizations that supply the goods and services
it uses. The goal of supplier relationship management (SRM) is to streamline and
make more effective the processes between an enterprise and its suppliers just
as customer relationship management (CRM) is intended to streamline and make mor
e effective the processes between an enterprise and its customers. SRM includes
both business practices and software and is part of the information flow compone
nt of supply chain management (SCM). SRM practices create a common frame of refe
rence to enable effective communication between an enterprise and suppliers who
may use quite different business practices and terminology. As a result, SRM inc
reases the efficiency of processes associated with acquiring goods and services,
managing inventory, and processing materials.
According to proponents, the use of SRM software can lead to lower production co
sts and a higher quality, but lower priced end product. SRM products are availab
le from a number of vendors, including 12 Technologies, Manugistics, PeopleSoft,
and SAP.
SAP SRM simplifies and automates procurement. The SAP SRM process integrates sup
plier qualification, negotiation, and contract management more tightly and cost-
effectively with other enterprise functions and their suppliers processes through
a single framework with support for multichannel suppliers.
The SAP SRM application is designed as a long-term foundation to secure the cost
and quality advantages of center-led purchasing and broadened supplier involvem
ent for enduring value and long-term results.

What is SAP BW Module

1 comments What is SAP BW Module ?
In the fiercely increasing competition amongst corporations it has become mandat
ory to make quick and sound crucial business decisions based on analysis of busi
ness critical data. This is the point where data warehouses come into play. Alth
ough many companies are relying on data warehouses, they are still struggling to
achieve positive results due to fragmented and inconsistent data. For them SAP s
Business Information Warehouse (BW) provides a complete information factory solu
tion. BW is the central component in the SAP suite of applications with an added
advantage of being a software package that can be used in both SAP and non-SAP
environments.
SAP Business Information Warehouse (SAP BW) is the name of the Business Intellig
ence, analytical, reporting and Data Warehousing (DW) solution which is one of t
he major enterprise software applications produced by SAP AG. It was originally
named SAP BIW, (Business Information Warehouse), but is now known as "SAP NetWea
ver BI".
For the modern enterprise, time wasted due to data loss and inconsistencies is u
nacceptable, particularly when this can often be remedied easily through the use
of a data warehouse. SAP introduced Business Warehouse Information Systems (BW)
in the first half of 1997. This system approach consolidates the external and t
he internal sources of data into a single repository and provides preconfigured
data that aids the organizations and enterprises in dealing with the data manage
ment and archiving. The SAP environment therefore expanded its horizon with the
introduction and implementation of SAP BW to encompass new applications for the
SAP R/3 administrators responsible for administering and maintenance of these da
ta reserves.

What is SAP PP Module

5 comments What is SAP PP Module ?
Manufacturing in any company has at its disposal various resources. The nature a
nd the constraints of these resources are determined by some strategic decisions
. The day-to-day running of manufacturing rests with Production Planning and Con
trol (PP&C) The purpose of PP&C is to ensure that manufacturing runs effectively
and efficiently and produces products as required by customers.
SAP R/3 has a highly integrated Production Planning System. The PP module is div
ided into two Sub-modules, 'PP-PI' and 'Production General'. PP-PI sub-module is
designed for process industries like Oil and Gas.
The Production Planning module of SAP takes care of Master data needed like Bill
Of Materials, Routings and Work Centers and stores it in one separate component
.
Various stages of the planning system can be planned by using components like
Sales and Operation Planning
Long Term Planning
Demand Management
Materials Requirement Planning
SAP R/3 PP module can also plan Capacity. The capacity Planning sub-module takes
into account various capacities like pooled capacity etc.
Production Orders reporting has flexibility of confirming orders with or without
backflush. The material can be staged to production site from the Warehouse aft
er releasing the order. Costing can be triggered automatically by integrating th
e module with the Cost Accounting Module.
Integration with other modules like Material management, Financial Accounting, C
ost Accounting, Human Resources & Development, Sales and Distribution etc adds o
n to reliability of the production planning system in SAP R/3. The system is a r
eal time system. The changes in demand (cancelled or added sales order etc) and
supply (high/low rejection, early/late supply from supplier, breakdown of facili
ties etc) are reflected in real time and the production controller can react fas
t to these changes.
SAP R/3 PP module is a very effective tool for production planning. As it gives
many alternatives, it must be configured correctly to reach optimum utilization.

What is SAP QM
0 comments What is SAP QM ?
Quality management is a method for ensuring that all the activities necessary to
design, develop and implement a product or service are effective and efficient
with respect to the system and its performance.
Quality management is the comprehensive solution that supports the company throu
ghout the product life cycle and along the supply chain. It offers a wide range
of functions and collaborative services, which are fully integrated into SAP ERP
, for assuring and managing the quality of products and assets. It also focuses
on prevention and continuous process improvement through collaboration and susta
ined quality control.
The SAP QM module supports tasks associated with quality planning, quality inspe
ction and quality control throughout an enterprise. It sets the specifications f
or quality and standard testing procedures, controls the creation of quality cer
tificates and manages notifications related to quality. It also stores the quali
ty data for raw materials, goods-in-process and finished goods.
The QM (Quality management) application component in SAP R/3 System supports tas
ks associated with quality planning, quality inspection and quality control. In
addition, it controls the creation of quality certificates and manages problems
with the help of quality notifications.
The companies can use the Complaint Management for achieving their quality goals
. This process provides the notification and analysis of non-conformities, defec
ts, and failures that are related to products, processes, or services.
SAP ERP supports problem management with its very flexible and powerful quality
notification tool. It is possible to record quality notifications using variable
templates depending on the scenario. Notifications are a flexible tool for reco
rding, processing, and monitoring all unplanned events in an organization, e.g.
complaints against vendors, customer complaints, or internal problems.

What is SAP SCM

1 comments What is SCM/SAP SCM ?
Supply chain management (SCM) is the oversight of materials, information, and fi
nances as they move in a process from supplier to manufacturer to wholesaler to
retailer to consumer. Supply chain management involves coordinating and integrat
ing these flows both within and among companies. It is said that the ultimate go
al of any effective supply chain management system is to reduce inventory (with
the assumption that products are available when needed). As a solution for succe
ssful supply chain management, sophisticated software systems with Web interface
s are competing with Web-based application service providers (ASP) who promise t
o provide part or all of the SCM service for companies who rent their service.
Supply chain management flows can be divided into three main flows:
The product flow
The information flow
The finances flow
The product flow includes the movement of goods from a supplier to a customer, a
s well as any customer returns or service needs. The information flow involves t
ransmitting ordersand updating the status of delivery. The financial flow consis
ts of credit terms, payment schedules, and consignment and title ownership arran
gements.
The SAP® Supply Chain Management (SAP SCM) application offers companies not only p
lanning and execution solutions to manage operations but also helps boost visibi
lity and collaboration to extend their operations beyond corporate boundaries. S
AP SCM empowers companies to adapt their supply chain processes to an ever-chang
ing competitive environment, transforming traditional supply chains from linear,
sequential processes into an adaptive supply chain network in which communities
of customer-centric, demand-driven companies share knowledge, intelligently ada
pt to market changes and proactively respond to shorter, less predictable life c
ycles.
SAP SCM provides three cornerstones that form the foundation of the adaptive sup
ply chain network:
Synchronize supply and demand. The deployment of front-end demand and back-end s
upply gateways support demand-driven manufacturing and fulfillment processes to
keep goods flowing smoothly and profitably to the end customer.
Sense and respond with an adaptive fulfillment network. Distribution, transporta
tion and logistics processes are integrated with real-time planning. Additionall
y, sense-and-respond capabilities enabled by radio frequency identification (RFI
D) capabilities deployed in the warehouse and throughout the distribution and tr
ansportation network improve order tracking and elevate customer service.
Network-wide visibility, collaboration and analytics. Event management capabilit
ies enable
companies to effectively monitor critical activities, resulting in greater trans
parency, while built-in analytics provide real-time performance management.

What is SAP MM Module

1 comments What is SAP MM Module ?
SAP MM is the materials management module of the SAP ERP software package from S
AP AG that is used for Procurement Handling and Inventory Management. Materials
management is integrated with other modules such as SD, PP and QM. Materials man
agement is used for peocurement and inventory management.
The module has two important master data - material and vendor. Broadly, the var
ious levels that can be defined for a SAP MM implementation are: Client, Company
Code, Plant, Storage Location and Purchase Organization.
SAP Materials management covers all tasks within the supply chain, including con
sumption-based planning, planning, vendor evaluation and invoice verification. I
t also includes inventory and warehouse management to manage stock until usage d
ictates the cycle should begin again. Electronic Kanban/Just-in-Time delivery is
supported.
It can be divided into five major components. There are: materials management, p
lant maintenance, quality management, production planning and control, and a pro
ject management system. Each is divided into number of subcomponents.
SAP MM is all about managing the materials i.e the resources of an organization.
These resources include man, manpower and materials. The main functionality wit
hin MM includes purchasing, Inventory management, valuation and assignment, batc
h management and classification.

What is SAP PM Module

1 comments What is Computerized Maintenance Management System and SAP PM Module?
A CMMS software package maintains a computer database of information about an or
ganization s maintenance operations. This information is intended to help maintena
nce workers do their jobs more effectively (for example, determining which store
rooms contain the spare parts they need) and to help management make informed de
cisions (for example, calculating the cost of maintenance for each piece of equi
pment used by the organization, possibly leading to better allocation of resourc
es). The information may also be useful when dealing with third parties; if, for
example, an organization is involved in a liability case, the data in a CMMS da
tabase can serve as evidence that proper safety maintenance has been performed.
CMMS packages may be used by any organization that must perform maintenance on e
quipment and property.
A typical package deals with some or all of the following:
Work orders: Scheduling jobs, assigning personnel, reserving materials, recordin
g costs, and tracking relevant information such as the cause of the problem (if
any), downtime involved (if any), and recommendations for future action.
Preventive maintenance (PM): Keeping track of PM inspections and jobs, including
step-by-step instructions or check-lists, lists of materials required, and othe
r pertinent details. Typically, the CMMS schedules PM jobs automatically based o
n schedules and/or meter readings. Different software packages use different tec
hniques for reporting when a job should be performed.
Asset management: Recording data about equipment and property including specific
ations, warranty information, service contracts, spare parts, purchase date, exp
ected lifetime, and anything else that might be of help to management or mainten
ance workers.
Inventory control: Management of spare parts, tools, and other materials includi
ng the reservation of materials for particular jobs, recording where materials a
re stored, determining when more materials should be purchased, tracking shipmen
t receipts, and taking inventory.
Safety: Management of permits and other documentation required for the processin
g of safety requirements. These safety requirements can include lockout-tagout,
confined space, foreign material exclusion (FME), electrical safety, and others.
SAP R/3 s PM module functions as a computerized maintenance management system (CMM
S) and is used to plan and schedule ongoing, daily facility maintenance.
The SAP Plant Maintenance comprises of the following activities such as inspecti
on, to measures and establish the actual condition of a technical system, preven
tive maintenance to measures and maintain the ideal condition of a technical sys
tem, repair to measures and restore the ideal condition of a technical system an
d other measures that need to be taken using the maintenance organization.
SAP PM is closely integrated with other modules (for example, Materials Manageme
nt, Production, Sales and Distribution, Personnel Management, and Controlling) t
he data is always kept current and processes that are necessary for Plant Mainte
nance and Customer Service are automatically triggered in other areas (for examp
le, a purchase requisition for non-stock material in the Materials Management/Pu
rchasing area).

What is SAP HR Module

2 comments What is SAP HR Module?
SAP HR is a global HR resource management system solution is one of the largest
modules in the SAP R/3 system which consists of many submodules like , covers
Organizational Management
Personnel Administration
Recruitment Time Management
Payroll Benefits Compensation
Management Personnel Cost
Planning Budget
Management Personnel
Development Training & Event Management
Travel Management
Etc
Many of these sub modules are further sub divided into many components for eg Ti
me Management is further divided into Time Administration, Shift Planning,Incent
ive Wages and Time Sheet.Environment Health & Safety is further divided into Occ
upational Health & Industrial Hygiene & Safety.
With the advent of mySAP , SAP HR was then called mySAP HR . What got added with
my(mark this word)SAP was the web services like ESS (Employee Self- Service) an
d the MSS Manager's Self Service) which gave empowerment to the employees and ma
nagers, employees to better manage their own data and managers to better manage
their own departments/divisions. This became the turning point for SAP HR to shi
ft from being a data repository to a strategic tool where the HR departments now
focused more of strategic tasks than administrative ones which were now offload
ed to the employees and managers using these self services.
The SAP HR module enables customers to effectively manage information about the
people in their organization, and to integrate that information with ''other SAP
modules'' and external systems.
Consistent with the overall integration of SAP R/3, the HR module shares informa
tion with other modules, such as Financial Accounting (FI), Controlling (CO), Pr
oduction Planning and Business Workflow. The Payroll processes use Accounts Paya
ble functions to print checks, manage payment and bank information, and process
payments to tax authorities and other third-party vendors. Payroll results are a
lso posted to General Ledger accounts for use in periodic income and expense rep
orting. For management accounting, information regarding employment costs can be
transferred to Cost Centers with in the CO module. Employees can be assigned to
Work Centers, which are used in conjunction with Production Planning. Assigned
positions and reporting relationships from PD are used in Business Workflow to r
oute purchase requisitions and other documents for approval. HR works with exter
nal systems either through certified interfaces with SAP partner products, or cu
stom developed interfaces to customer defined systems.

What is SAP AM Module

3 comments What is Enterprise Asset Management?
Enterprise asset management (EAM) means the whole life optimal management of the
physical assets of an organization to maximize value. It covers such things as
the design, construction, commissioning, operations, maintenance and decommissio
ning/replacement of plant, equipment and facilities. "Enterprise" refers to the
management of the assets across departments, locations, facilities and, in some
cases, business units. By managing assets across the facility, organizations can
improve utilization and performance, reduce capital costs, reduce asset-related
operating costs, extend asset life and subsequently improve ROA (return on asse
ts).
Asset intensive industries face the harsh realities of operating in highly compe
titive markets and dealing with high value facilities and equipment where each f
ailure is disruptive and costly. At the same time, they must also adhere to stri
ngent occupational safety, health and environmental regulations. Maintaining opt
imal availability, reliability and operational safety of plant, equipment, facil
ities and other assets is therefore essential for an organization's competitiven
ess.
On the operations side, EAM caters to increased efficiencies of all assets inclu
ding inventory, regulatory compliance and human resources by combining the salie
nt goals of investment, maintenance, repair and operations management. Simultane
ously, EAM addresses business challenges that include productivity enhancement,
maximizing asset life cycle, minimizing total cost of ownership and support of t
he technology and supply chain infrastructure.
Software solutions to support this business paradigm have been in use since the
1970's.
SAP Service and Asset Management is the only integrated solution that allows to
manage service and maintenance from end to end. It can handle service sales and
marketing, manage service-level agreements, oversee service call centers, track
warranties and claims, and provide customer self-service over the Web. It can al
so perform field service, in-house maintenance and repair, depot repair, service
parts management including execution and planning and service performance and f
inancial analysis.
And, SAP Service and Asset Management gives asset owners and operators unprecede
nted capabilities for managing assets, equipment, and facilities. They can manag
e all types of physical assets, such as production equipment, facilities, and in
frastructures over the complete life cycle of those assets including design spec
ification and procurement, installation and start-up, maintenance and operations
, and decommissioning and disposal.

CRM/SAP CRM Module

3 comments What is CRM?
Customer relationship management (CRM) is a broadly used term that covers concep
ts used by organizations to manage their relationships with customers and stakeh
olders to reduce costs and increase profitability by solidifying customer loyalt
y.
CRM brings together information from all sources within and outside an organizat
ion to give one, holistic view of each customer in real time.
Customers can benefit from their data being utilised within a CRM system. For in
stance, an increase in unsolicited telemarketing calls is generally resented by
customers while a small number of relevant offers is generally appreciated by cu
stomers. CRM software can enhance the collection and analysis of customer behavi
our leading to more relevant communications with customer.
There are three aspects of CRM which can each be implemented in isolation from e
ach other:
Operational - automation of customer processes that offers support to a company s
sales or service representative
Collaborative - the program communicates to customers without a company s sales or
service representative (self service)
Analytical - analysis of customer information for multiple purposes.
CRM Market:
According to AMR, market for CMR will grow to $19.2 billion through 2011, a 9% c
ompound annual growth rate.
Gartner says CRM software spending grew to $5.81 billion last year, an 11.5% inc
rease, and predicts that software spending will grow between 11% and 12% for the
next five years.
SAP is a market leader in CRM followed by Siebel and Oracle.

Cost of SAP Training

39 comments There are only two authorized SAP Training partners in India from wh
ere you can get SAP Certification. These are the following.
1. Genvate.
2. Siemens.
These institutes will charge Rs. 2,75000 for training. Rs. 2,50000 is the the tr
aining fees and Rs. 25,000 for Certification. You need to have 70% marks in the
Certification exam, which is a bit hard. You can appear at most three times payi
ng 25,000 each time.
But there is no placement guarantee even after Certification from these institut
es with only 1/4 Certified consultants getting palced.
Apart from these two training centers, there are numerous other institutes in al
l the major cities of India, which offer SAP training at cheap rates. The fees f
or SAP courses in these institutes ranges between 10-25K. On this site, you can
find the address of some of these institutes which have good repute among the st
udent community. There are people who took training from these small institutes
and are now placed in MNCs with hefty pay packages. So all that matters is the a
mount of hardwork and dedication one applies that will land him a job in SAP.
You can visit the site to get extensive documentation on SAP. It is a good resou
rce and a library of SAP training material.

Fake Experiance
13 comments Freshers who want to enter in to SAP field tends to fake experiance
and credentials. Mind you, if you do this, then you are risking your career and
aspirations. Now a days, companies have realised this menace and are blacklistin

klisted, he ort she cannot apply to any other company and could land in jail als
o.
Accenture had recenly fired 2,500 SAP consultants with fake experiance. Wipro wi
th some other two companies have started blacklisting candidates with fake exper

IT industry has identified this problem and serious efforts are being taken tack

enhance the productivity of an organization. Though implementing SAP is an costl

In India, SAP controls a market share of about 57% in ERP. Most of the big comap
nies in India have implemented or are in the proces of implementing SAP ERP, and
now SAP AG is targeting small and medium size enterprises in India and hence mo
re jobs will be comming in future.
According to a recent news, globally there would be a shortage of 40,000 SAP pro
fessionals. In India, SAP AG will be doubling the headcount to 8,000 by 2010, wh
ich is an indication of increased opportunities for SAP professionals.

SAP History
10 comments The first version of SAP's enterprise software was a financial Accou
nting system named R/1. (The "R" was for "Realtime data processing"). This was r
eplaced by R/2 at the end of the 1970s. SAP R/2 was a mainframe based business a
pplication software suite that was very successful in the 1980s and early 1990s.
With the advent of distributed client server computing SAP AG brought out a cli
ent-server version of the software called SAP R/3 that was manageable on multipl
e platforms and operating systems, such as Microsoft Windows or UNIX since 1999,
which opened up SAP to a whole new customer base. SAP R/3 was officially launch
ed on 6 July 1992. SAP came to dominate the large business applications market o
ver the next 10 years.
