PROJECTS
Department of Transportation Headquarters (DOT)
Washington, DC
Weidlinger Associates provided structural design and blast engineering services
for the new Department of Transportation headquarters in Washington, DC. Located
on an 11-acre parcel in the developing Southeast Federal Center, the 2-million-
square-foot complex consists of a nine-story western tower and eight-story easte
rn tower, which will house the agency's more than 5,000 employees. Two levels of
below-grade parking for 950 cars are also planned. A multi-story lobby leads to
adjacent first-floor space, which contains a large assembly area. Each building
has a central linear atrium.
National Museum of the Marine Corps and Heritage Center
Quantico, Virginia
Structural engineering services for a new U.S. Marine Corps museum and learning
center with a conicaloid glass exterior wall and dominated by a 210-foot mast th

ium. 120,000 sf.
Dulles Discovery (Phase I & II)
Chantilly, VA
Weidlinger Associates provided structural engineering and blast engineering serv
ices for the 1.2M sf Dulles Discover Project. The new five-story, 375,000 sf, T-
shaped secure phase I office building was constructed and is occupied. The super
structure consists of moment-framed structural steel and composite metal decks.
Each of the tee-shaped building's three wings has a rooftop penthouse. The build
ing has a blast-resistant precast facade system with punched windows and glazed
curtainwall.
A new nine-story, 425,000 sf, secure phase II office building was constructed a
nd will be occupied in June 2010. The superstructure consists of moment-framed s
tructural steel and composite metal decks. The building has a blast-resistant pr
ecast facade system with punched windows and glazed curtainwall.
A new nine-story, 425,000 sf, secure phase III office building will be occupied
by 2014. The superstructure will consist of moment-framed structural steel and
composite metal decks. The building will have a blast-resistant precast facade s
ystem with punched windows and glazed curtainwall.
In addition to the office buildings a separate central plant, campus loading doc
k, access control center and 15,000 sf of a planned 54,000 sf data center have b
een constructed.
C4-ISR Center of Excellence
Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland, (BRAC)
Weidlinger Associates, Inc. is providing full structural and antiterrorism force
protection (AT/FP) design for the C4ISR Campus as part of the BRAC Initiative r
elocating Army activities from Fort Monmouth to a site at the Aberdeen Proving G
round. This $500 million, 1 million gsf design-build project for the USACE inclu
des five secure office buildings, an auditorium, a laboratory building and other
support buildings. Of structural interest is the exterior cladding of the 5-sto
ry office buildings, which were designed by Weidlinger to provide lateral force
resistance and integrate with the structural system. Typical DoD criteria for mi
litary bases regarding site perimeter, standoff, hardened systems and progressiv
e collapse resistance were applied to the project components. The AT/FP design w
as in accordance to the Department of Defense Minimum Antiterrorism and progress
ive collapse standards.
Joint Use Intelligence Analysis Facility (JUIAF)
Charlottesville, Virginia (BRAC)
