THE PA NTHEON OF AVIUS

The gods of Avius rule from behind a celestial curtain. They act as guardians, advisors, protectors, and leaders of their earthly worshippers. While the celestial rift they sit behind protects them from destruction, it also inhibits their ability to act directly. Despite this, however, the gods may still act indirectly through earthly agents sent from the world beyond. These agents are known as many things, including angels, demons, and demigods. Through these agents, the gods may communicate with the mortal world, and enact their word in the realm of the living.

Adaghar
King, high emperor, master of masters, Adaghar is all of these things and more. Adaghar is the king of the gods, and creator of all, alongside his brother Ohenoxt. The two of them ultimately created every force of good and evil in the world of Avius. Adaghar's spheres of control include dragons, creation, and honour. While he rarely exerts his influence, past events suggest that he is not only more powerful than the other gods, but that he may be able to instantly undo any change made by the other gods, no matter the magnitude, except for Ohenoxt, who seems to be immune to Adaghar's powers.

Ohenoxt
Ohenoxt may be considered the mirror reflection of his brother, Adaghar. Ohenoxt once helped his brother slay the titan Nubael, however the two soon went their separate ways, as Adaghar wanted to allow mortals to find their own ways in Avius, whereas Ohenoxt was more interested in ruling. Ohenoxt was banished by the combined power of Adaghar and Tason to the dark rift between worlds. Despite the efforts of Adaghar and Tason, Ohenoxt spent the next millennia regaining his power, and has created his own demonic minions, designed to carry out his will. Ohenoxt controls the spheres of murder, rage, and exile.

Tason
Tason is the goodly son of Adaghar and Selahl, and is the god of bravery, truth, and trust. When he combined his powers with those of his Father, Ohenoxt was banished, though with a grave cost; Tason was stripped of his powers, and sent down to Avius. He was made to live his life as a mortal on Avius, and died painfully

at the hands of a demon of Ohenoxt. His bravery allowed the gods to bring his spirit back into the realm of gods, where he once again ascended to godhood, his powers returned. Tason appears as a heavily scarred, strong young man in bent and rusted armour.

Selahl
Sometimes called the Queen of the gods, Selahl was the first god created by Adaghar, made from a piece of the titan Nubael's heart. Selahl is the goddess of love and charity, and she encourages all peoples to take part in both. She is also the sometimes-lover of Adaghar, and is the mother of Tason. She risked her godhood in her many attempts to protect Tason when he was cursed to live a mortal life, though his ascension relieved the strain on her powers greatly. She delights in trying to pair up mortal couples, though she is often surprised at their actions when it comes to love. She looks kindly upon beggars, and helps to protect them when the cold winds of winter blow, as the beggars test mortals' charity better than she ever could. Selahl appears as a beautiful young woman in a flowing blue

Apiel
Apiel was the second of the original gods, that is, gods that were made from the flesh of Nubael the titan. Apiel is the god of magic in all its forms, and of knowledge and curiosity. Apiel was created by a drop of Ohenoxt's blood, and a piece of Nubael's brain. Apiel taught the korath-sul all types of magic, so that they could spread it to all peoples of Avius. Apiel gave Tason a magic sword when he was sent to the mortal realm that would glow when danger approached. Apiel has relatively few temples dedicated to him in Avius, and it is just as well; he spends little time in his home among the gods. Instead, he wanders about the multiverse, exploring new worlds in mortal guise. Apiel appears as an old man with one eye blue, and the other eye green.

Hinesti
Hinesti is the polar opposite of Selahl. Hinesti was created by Ohenoxt to be his scion of pain, torture, and fear. Hinesti lives in an area within Ohenoxt's prison, known as the Everdark, a place of eternal blackness, where not even magical light can penetrate. Hinesti delights in the pain and suffering of mortals, and she frequently clashes with Selahl, who wishes to see mortals happy and joyous. Hinesti appears as a haggard old woman, who bleeds from many never-healing wounds.

Ushael
Ushael is the sole son of Nubael the titan. Ushael ascended to godhood with the blessing of Ohenoxt, and became the god of traitors, the undead, and revenge. Ushael longs for the day when the rift between Ohenoxt's and Adaghar's realms fades, and he will have the chance to avenge his Father's murder. While it is not officially part of his godly sphere, Ushael controls the majority of the demons that work at the behest of Ohenoxt. Ushael appears as a large, black-skinned bald man with thick, powerful muscles.

THE CR EATION OF AVIUS

Two brothers, Adaghar and Ohenoxt, were powerful beings of another world, a world beyond Avius. Each brother wished to best the other in a feat of strength, so both attempted to defeat the colossal titan called Nubael. Each had his turn, battling against the titan, but neither was able to defeat the powerful entity on his own. And so, Adaghar and Ohenoxt decided they would work together to defeat Nubael. The brothers, working together, managed to slay the giant beast, and stole from him the essence of the titan, the life-force that allowed him his great power. Using this great gift, the brothers decided that they should be the gods of their own world. Using his newfound might, Adaghar crushed and ground the bones of the titan Nubael into dust, and breathed into it some of his essence. Thus, Adaghar created the wastelands of Jarle. Ohenoxt was pleased with this, but thought that this new world should have vegetation and rains to sustain them. Ohenoxt gathered the blood of Nubael and poured it across the newly created land. This formed the rivers and lakes of Avius. Ohenoxt gathered up the dried blood of the titan off of his sword, and blew it into a mist above the lands. These became clouds, and they rained life-giving water down onto the lands. Plants and trees sprouted under the nourishment the gods had supplied. But Adaghar wanted more of this new land. Adaghar plucked the hairs of Nubael and broke them in twain. These hairs became first living beings of Avius, though they were doomed to be evil and malicious, as they were formed of evil source.

He wanted another being with which he could share his power and wonder, as he could not ever meet the beings he had created on this land. For this, Ohenoxt plucked out the heart of Nubael, and gave it to his brother. Adaghar used the heart of the titan to form another being like him, a god for love and beauty. Thus, he created Selahl, goddess of beauty and charity. But soon, the people of the world had problems that they themselves could not solve. Since the gods were of divine blood, and not mortal, they could not truly enter the mortal realm to assist them. Thus, Adaghar and Ohenoxt laboured together to create Apiel, using the brain of Nubael. Apiel sent his messenger to Avius bearing the gift of magic to the people. Thusly, did the gods create the world. -Yon'sh'thal, grand high toad of the korath-sul
