Introduction
The Singapore Globalist is Singapores only homegrown international affairs publication that is run entirely by students. Our mission is to cultivate a culture of curiosity for international affairs, and inspire a generation that understands the issues of the modern world and envisions social change.
We are a proud member of the Global21 network (www.global21online.org/), which was established in Yale University in 2005.

About the Publication

The Singapore Globalist is written, edited, staffed and published entirely by university students. We aspire to develop into a student publication renowned for its journalistic excellence, depth of insight and scope of dialogue. By using journalism as a platform, we aim to shine a spotlight on issues less reported by the mainstream media and present new perspectives. We will also lend a unique local and Southeast Asian voice to discussions on global affairs, helping to make whats happening around the world today relevant to Singaporeans. As we do this, we hope to motivate our readers to become critical and socially responsible global citizens.
The publication will take both online and print forms. It will feature, among others, commentaries, investigative pieces and interviews with well-known personalities. Rather than mere fact-finding, each article in The Singapore Globalist will achieve a deeper level of analysis. We will focus on exploring issues in the areas of politics, society & culture and business & finance (which includes economics). The Globalist is divided into the following segments:

INSIGHT
Here, our writers will share new perspectives on important international issues. They will also explore issues that are under-reported by the mainstream media, and thus, less frequently discussed in public. This segment aims to provide insights into global affairs, cast a spotlight on invisible issues, engender public discourse and serve as a call to action.

EMBASSY
As an international affairs magazine, we regard the Embassy as one of our most important sections. The articles will explore the nexus between global affairs and regional or national issues. Writers will draw links from global

issues back to the Singapore or regional context, analyse how international movements and actors affect the domestic landscape, and explore how we can, in turn, play a role on the global stage.

FROM THE SEMINAR ROOM

One of the highlights of our magazine is a section dedicated to showcasing the fruits of students labour from the classroom. Here, we pay tribute to excellent and thoughtful student papers, adapted to the journalistic writing style.

CONVERSATIONS
This segment describes interactions with leaders in our community, by providing insights into their work and their perspectives on global affairs. This will most frequently take the form of an interview.

ROUNDTABLE: LETTERS FROM READERS

The Singapore Globalist is a conversation. It is a conversation where people share perspectives and debate important international issues. It is here, in the Roundtable, that this concept is truly exemplified. Modelling after The Sydney Globalist, we will invite readers to send in short, incisive responses to any article, including Roundtable responses to previous articles.

DECONSTRUCTED
In todays world, everything happening around us is becoming increasingly complex. This segment will deconstruct an issue, an industry or a product into easily digestible chunks of information. For example, the PalestinianIsraeli Conflict: Deconstructed would simply and lucidly explain the history and context of the conflict, outlining how these transformed the situation into what it is today.

Interactions and seminars with distinguished speakers (visiting professors, renowned journalists, CEOs etc.)

NETWORKING WITH STUDENTS ACROSS THE GLOBE

We believe it is crucial to invest in strategic relationships with cultural communities, universities and other high-achieving students overseas. As a member of The Singapore Globalist, you will be able to take advantage of these relationships, especially our ties to eminent universities, and network with the next generation of world corporate and government leaders. A platform that will allow you to do this is the Global21 conference. In light of the hugely successful North American Conference 2010, Global21 has plans to conduct future forums with a wider outreach. Asian chapters, including Singapore, will be invited, expanding the diversity of opinions at the event. Members will have the opportunity to meet like-minded students from around the world, and discuss world issues in an exciting and unprecedented atmosphere of debate, exploration, and mutual learning. In time, The Singapore Globalist aims to hold its very own Asian Conference, where members of Global21 will meet to discuss trends affecting Asia and the world at large, as well as exchange best publishing practices.

ANNUAL FOREIGN REPORTING TRIP

In the long term, we hope to develop the resources to organise overseas trips for our journalists and engage in face-to-face foreign correspondence, similar to those organised by The Yale Globalist. We will move in this direction by taking the following steps: Collaborating with professors to make a Globalist article one of the endassignments for Overseas Study Missions. Encouraging our writers to join overseas community involvement trips (OCIP) and plan their article around primary research done overseas. Partnering with OCIP committees to publish special reports (e.g. poverty in Urumqi), making their overseas work more sustainable. Eventually, our goal is to organise our own reporting trips. The Yale Globalist has invited us to participate in their trips to experience the model first hand and apply it to The Singapore Globalist.
