2.1.1.3. Determination of total submersible pump Head

The total pumping head can be calculated from: HT = HS + hS Where HT : total head HS : static head = (736.132+1.75-730.714+60) = 67.168m ht : System head loss =158.4 m Substituting the above known values: HT = 67.168+ 158.4 m = 225.568 m Accordingly, total pump head is =230m Therefore, the pump duty Point is selected to be: Duty Point: 108 m3/hr at 230 mts head

2.1.1.4. Determination of submersible Pump power

Taking the above calculated duty point of the pump: Known & assumed values: Q = 30 l/s HT = 290mts = pump efficiency = 65%

The required pump power can be calculated from: PP = ( Q * HT ) /(102 * P) Where Q: discharge [l/s] HT: total head [mts]

P.

Overall efficiency (assumed 65%)

PP = (30* 230) / (102 * 0.65) PP = 104.072 kW

2.1.2.5. Determination of submersible motor power

By assuming 10-20 % for Electric motor overload, the pump motor will be:Pm = PP x ( 1 + 0.1) = kW Where, Pp - pump power Pm - motor power Pm = 104.072 x (1 + 0.1) = 114.479 kW. 115 kW motor is selected, in accordance with the motor rating standards

-The diesel engine capacity required to operate the submersible pump motor -Taking 0.9 motor efficiency the required power would be=115/0.9=127.77kw Considering the generator and the cable losses the engine shoud be -Rated for=127.77/0.9=141.97Kw -Taking the power factor of the generator as 0.8 =141.97/0.8=177.46 KVA -Taking derating factor of 0.94 the KVA rating of the gunset should be =177.46/0.94=188.79 KVA So a gunset with 190 KVA or the next available higher capacity generator should be selected.
