Mohali spirit alive, India has backed Pakistani Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilanis proposal to have the cricket teams of both countries play a threematch series in Pakistan. Gilani on Tuesday spoke of attempts to restart cricketing ties with India. Negotiations are underway and nothing has been finalised as yet, he said. On Wednesday, Indian government sources confirmed New Delhi s readiness to walk the extra mile. It is a sport that has a following on both sides I think everyone would love to watch them play, an official said. Indias in-principle decision to send the team preferably around the time Prime Minister
Manmohan Singh visits Islamabad later this year comes amid reports that Pakistani-born Canadian citizen Tahawwur Rana has admitted to the role of Pakistans ISI in the 26/11 Mumbai attacks. This is surrendered foreign policy. We condemn this abject surrender of the government, said BJP spokesperson Prakash Javdekar, reacting to the government talking about continuing the dialogue process. It has lost the opportunity to expose Pakistan. (External affairs minister SM) Krishna should have said that unless Pakistan takes action against terror, there is no meaning in talks. But Indias security establishment has come around to the point that not talking is not a solution.

FORECAST: Pleasant morning. Day temperature will increase. Possible dust storm in the evening could bring some relief
and China seemingly put a lid on their twoyear-long catfight. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and President Hu Jintao agreed to a new border management mechanism and officers of Indias northern command visiting China later this year. Beijing also accepted New Delhis complaints regarding trade barriers for Indian exports. We have taken care of a large number of minor irritants troubling bilateral relations, said an Indian official afterwards. Singh and Hu had a 50-minute meeting the day before the third BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) summit on Thursday. National security advisor Shivshankar Menon described the talks as productive, warm and friendly. The two sides agreed to set up a working mechanism for consultation and coordination on all border issues. The mechanism had been proposed by China last December and was accepted in principle by Singh. Menon said the mechanism would help ensure peace and tranquility along the border meaning prevention of military friction. The mechanism will implementthe1993and1996bor-
eral of civil aviation (DGCA) is planning a cleansing drive by moving out employees who have not been transferred for quite a while. The aviation industry regulator is in the thick of an embarrassing scandal, involving pilots who faked mark-sheets to get jobs with various domestic air-
lines. DGCA chief EK Bharat Bhushan told HT that the reshuffle, the biggest ever in the regulator's history, is part of the overall cleansing of the organisation. It's going to happen in the next couple of weeks. Bhushan, who is cracking the whip to professionalise the DGCA, said only those whose
presence is absolutely necessary would be retained in Delhi. Industry experts say a purge was welcome. The move will help remove the cobwebs that have grown in the DGCA, said Captain Mohan Ranganathan, a Chennai-based aviation expert and a member of the government-appointed committee on air safety. He said the practice of issuing fake licences would not have become so widespread without the help of insiders. It cannot be done without the blessings of someone in a high position.
NOIDA: The rescue on Tuesday of the starving and depressed Bahal sisters in Noida came too late. The elder, Anuradha, 43, who was in coma when she was rushed to a Noida hospital, died of multi-organ failure on Wednesday morning. And the condition of the younger, Sonali, 41, who had locked herself up at home with her partner in sorrow for the past seven months, worsened a day after the police broke open the door to their house in Sector 29 and rushed the women to a hospital. Sonali had to be shifted to the intensive care unit of Kailash Hospital. The sisters seem to have sunk into depression after their parents died in the mid-nineties. They probably sunk deeper when their brother moved out of the house after getting married in 2007 and the final blow
came when their pet dog died seven months ago. Their brother, Vipin Bahal, broke down when approached by mediapersons at the hospital. I dont know what happened. They were alright when I last met them in August 2010, he said. I knew they were short-tempered but I thought that with our fathers property, which I transferred to them, and a bank balance, they would manage by themselves. I had no idea they were chronically depressed and could ever resort to self-deprivation in such a manner, said Vipin, who works with a Gurgaon company and lives with his wife in Noidas Sector 50. Daughters of a retired colonel, Anuradha had been a selfemployed chartered accountant for some time while Sonali worked with a company in Noida till 2008. Both had not married.

as the Bible of cricket, has named Indian batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar, 37, the leading cricketer in the world for 2010. The iconic batsman became the seventh recipient of the Wisden award after teammate Virender Sehwag, Australians Ricky Ponting and Shane Warne, Englands Andrew Flintoff, Sri Lankas Muttiah Muralitharan and South African Jacques Kallis. The 148th edition of Wisden Cricketers Almanack was launched on Wednesday and it was the first time Tendulkar won the
award since it started in 2004. In 2007, Wisden had identified Tendulkar as the player to have won such an award for 1998 had it been instituted then. Tendulkar, who realised a long-cherished dream when India won the World Cup earlier this month, was also named in Wisdens 2009 Test XI, at his accustomed number four position. He scored more than 1,500 Test runs, including seven centuries, in 2010. In February, he became the first in world cricket to score a double-hundred in one-dayers and in December, the first man to score 50 Test tons, both landmarks achieved against the best pace attack South Africa.
