Treatment of Diabetes: by LTC Mike Lonergan, M.D.

Week # 1
I. First increase insulin production A. Chromium Picolonate 100 micrograms/day B. Vanadium Sulfate 10 micrograms/day C. All other supplements (see vitamins for boys or vitamins for girls at the end of this ) (take supplements one hour before bedtime) II. Decrease your bodys need for insulin A. Buy a glucometer and at least 200 test strips B. Buy a carbohydrate counter counter book C. Record the exact number of grams of all carbohydrates and starches [which include all fruits and vegetables as well] used per day for one week D. Record the amount of your glucose for multiple times during the day for one week 1. Upon awakening from sleep 2. Before breakfast 3. One hour after breakfast 4. Mid morning 5. Prior to lunch (or mid morning snack) 6. One hour after lunch 7. Mid afternoon 8. Prior to supper 9. One hour after supper 10. Just prior to bed E. Also keep a record of exactly when and how much insulin and/or oral diabetic drugs you use.

WEEK # 2
E. CUT YOUR DAILY CARBOHYDRATE/STARCH INTAKE BY ONE HALF. 1. Calculate the number of grams of carbohydrates/starches you eat per day by adding up the number of grams of all of your carbohydrates and starches you eat and divide by seven. 2. Whatever that number of grams of carbohydrates and starches is per day begin to eat only that amount per day (example of an average 500 grams/day = 250 grams carbohydrates/starches per day) F. Decrease your insulin and/or oral diabetic drugs by one half 1. Use your glucometer as often as once per hour if necessary to make sure that your glucose does not go below 60 and if so eat some fast acting carbohydrates, like orange juice to keep it 60 or more. 2. Maintain your carbohydrate/starch intake at this new level for one week

WEEK # 3
G. CUT YOUR DAILY CARBOHYDRATE/STARCH INTAKE AGAIN BY ONE HALF OF THE PREVIOUS WEEK [ WEEK # 2] [ example: of 250 grams per day = 125 grams of carbohydrates/starches per day] F. Decrease your insulin and/or oral diabetic drugs by one half 1. Use your glucometer as often as once per hour to make sure that your glucose does not go below 60 and if so eat some fast acting carbohydrates, like orange keep it 60 or more. 2. Maintain your carbohydrate/starch intake at this new level for one week 3. Maintain the new level of insulin and/or diabetic drugs for one week.

WEEK # 4
G. Once your carbohydrate/starch intake is below 200 grams per day then decrease your intake by 20 grams per day until your glucometer does not show any increases in your glucose level above 110. 1. As your glucose level stabilizes stop taking all oral diabetic drugs 2. If you have been using insulin slowly and carefully decrease the daily number of units and number of insulin injections as you decrease the number of grams carbohydrates and starches. 3. Record the number of grams of carbohydrates/starches you eat per day carefully 4. This is your carbohydrate/starch allowance per day
