Country Conference 2012 goes to Cessnock

Country Conference remains the highlight of the Country Labor calendar and offers a unique opportunity for rural and regional delegates to meet in country nSW to formulate the policy and share experiences. Country Conference in 2012 will be held in Cessnock at the Cessnock Performing Arts Centre from Friday 24 Sunday 26 February 2012. In 2012, we are reforming Country Conference to focus more on training and policy development. Conference will be expanded to include a oneday training session for potential candidates in the 2012 Local Government elections. There will also be the opportunity to break into smaller policy workshops, hearing from policy experts and branch members. For more information, check out

Country Labor Dialogue is our monthly newsletter. It provides updates on whats happening around country NSW.
Inside this special edition of Country Labor Dialogue, we outline the future training plans for the year ahead, recap on our successful dinners held to honour past Labor figures, thank our State and Federal candidates and discuss our next reformed Country Labor Conference. Make sure you check out the new Country Labor website:

Country Conference will be expanded to allow more training opportunities for delegates and Party members.

Country Labor engagement online

Online engagement allows country members the opportunity to address the tyranny of distance one of the key challenges country branch members face. Online engagement will also allow us to attract new, younger members. At Annual Conference we will be launching the new Country Labor website www. countrylabor.com.au We recently launched our new facebook page: www.facebook.com/countrylabor Country Labor launched #countrylabor on twitter to announce the appointment of Steve Whan as Country Labors candidate for the Upper House.

Country Labor Dialogue is produced each month.

Do you have a story for Country Labor Dialogue? Email your story and photos to courtney@nswalp.com

Over the last 12 months, Country Labor has campaigned hard in our local communities for both the State and Federal elections, celebrated our Labor history and gathered together to discuss how to reform our Party.

Honouring our history

there are a range of dinners held around country nSW to honour our past representatives. Some of these occur annually, others bi-annually.
These dinners really make Country Labor what it is by bringing together members from across the State. All who attend have a wonderful time and we look forward to many more great nights when the dinners are held again later this year. For more information on upcoming dinners, visit www.countrylabor.com.au/ celebratingourhistory

training our Party members

Country Labor has offered campaign training for our members for the last 10 years training both campaign directors and activists through our one day Campaign Insight Programs.

In 2012 we will be launching a range of new training programs.

For more information on new train ing programs visit www.countrylabor.com.au/ training

record numbers at Light on the Hill Dinner

Over 500 people attended to hear Prime minister Julia gillard deliver the Annual Ben Chifley memorial Light on the Hill Address in September 2010. Prime Minister Julia Gillard spent an event filled day in Bathurst capped off by attending the annual Light on the Hill Dinner hosted by the Bathurst Branch. During her speech the Prime Minister called on all politicians to put their country, not their party, first. Julia Gillard reflected upon Chifleys famous remarks and how they remain relevant to today. To view a full transcript of the Prime Ministers speech, visit www.countrylabor.com.au

We have conducted these training programs around the State from tweed Heads to Wagga Wagga, from Broken Hill to Forster. Over the next 12 months, we will be launching a new range of training programs.

recruitment training and materials

In 2011 we will be launching Country recruitment Training. This training will be aimed at local branch members and branch office-bearers and will focus on how you can recruit more members in your local community. This will be supported by new Country Labor recruitment material.

Branch officials training

As part of the new Campaign Insight Training Academy, NSW Labor will be launching Branch Officials Training. This training will assist current Branch Officials, but also Party Members who are considering taking on a leadership role in their Branch in the future.

Candidate training
At the 2012 Country Conference, we will be expanding the Conference to three days to offer a one-day training program for future candidates. The 2012 training will be particularly relevant for those Party Members who are considering standing in the upcoming Local Government elections. Whilst NSW Labor always runs training programs for candidates in either Local, State and Federal elections, these training programs occur once candidates are endorsed. The training program at Country Conference will be aimed at any Party Member considering standing as a candidate in the future.

Celebrating a great Labor man

Former Premier Kristina Keneally was the guest speaker at the Annual Harold mair Dinner hosted by the Albury Branch in October 2010 to celebrate Harolds many achievements. Harold was the State Member for Albury for 10 years after serving 10 years on Albury Council and is still widely respected as and effective advocate for Albury. Harold was instrumental in the establishment and development of many facilities around Albury.

Country Conference will be exp anded to allow more training opportunities for delegates and Party members.

ALMOST $4 MILLION FOR TRADES TRAINING CENTRES

Singletons secondary school students now have increased access to world-class education and training opportunities, thanks to the Trade Training Centres in Schools program. St Catherines Catholic College, Singleton Christian School and Singleton High School have received almost $4 million for agricultural facilities, development and construction of hospitality facilities and a new building for the delivery of electrotechnology qualifications. The program helps equip young people with the skills they need to effectively and competitively participate in the workforce of tomorrow. It also addresses skill shortages in traditional trades and emerging industries by giving our young people the training they need to fill the positions crucial to keeping our economy strong.
