About the College
Worthing College is a popular sixth form college with over 1700 students. Our mission to

provide Opportunity, Achievement, Success and Progression is underpinned by our strong desire to become outstanding in the near future. We believe teaching and learning is the most important priority for all staff and students and the quality of teaching and learning and students achievements are the most important measures of College performance. Background to the Post We are looking for an exceptional person to further our work in setting new standards in sporting excellence and opportunity. The Apprenticeship provides the opportunity to gain a nationally recognised qualification. The Sports Development apprentice will complete the Edexcel L3 NVQ in Sports Development. In addition the college will support the apprentice to achieve two UKCC L1 coaching qualifications as well as safeguarding and first aid training. Further IT training will also be provided during the year and if the apprentice holds a full UK driving license they will be offered a subsidy to complete the Pass Plus qualification. The Sports Development and Coaching apprentice will work alongside existing Academy of Sport staff. The apprentice will work with the Sports Performance Coordinator (line manager): to further enhance the Worthing College Academy of Sport Active Health and wellbeing programme for both students and staff. The apprentice will also work alongside the Competitive Sports Coordinator to further enhance the colleges competitive sports programme. College teams and individual students continue to compete at a high standard and organising transport, officials and affiliations is a complex and challenging role. The apprentice will be required to support the ongoing work of the Curriculum Team and whole college Healthy FE initiatives.

APPRENTICE SPORTS DEVELOPMENT AND COACHING Term time only


Title of post: Reporting to: Responsible for: Apprentice Allowance: Other information: APPRENTICE SPORTS DEVELOPMENT AND COACHING Sports Performance Coordinator Student and staff active health and wellbeing, London 2012 engagement and school liaison 95 per week Hours: 37 hours per week, term time only. The apprenticeship will normally remain in force until the apprentice has completed the relevant qualification. Working hours will be predominantly Monday to Friday although some weekend working may be required. In addition you will be required to attend sessions at the college to support your completion of the NVQ portfolio and additional study areas.

Duties and Responsibilities:


Sports Development and coaching apprentice regular duties will include:

Supporting the Academy of Sport team members in their duties involving: - Developing and delivering sports programmes - Developing and co-ordinating health and wellbeing programmes for students and staff - Preparing documents and materials for use by students or for display - Answering the telephone and dealing with telephone enquiries - Photocopying and printing a range of documents - Filing and record keeping including updating electronic database records - Helping at events (sometimes outside of the normal working day) Working effectively with the Academy of Sport Team and other teams to contribute to the team plan and culture of excellence and to ensure that the College offers an outstanding service to students, staff and others. Researching, identifying and applying for eligible sources of external funding. Collecting, collating and interpreting key participation and performance data and presenting key findings at meetings. Any other duties reasonably delegated by the Principal.

The Sports Development apprentice will also be responsible for:

Working independently, managing own resources and professional development. Dealing professionally with students and colleagues. Taking initiative and leading on delegated areas of responsibility.

Full UK driving licence Sports leadership / coaching qualification THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE MUST BE ABLE TO DEMONSTRATE: A strong knowledge of the organisation of sport in the UK. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to be a good team member. Good IT skills and a strong desire to develop further. Commitment to complete the study and coursework required for passing the NVQ qualification. Commitment to a good standard of personal presentation. Term time only Key terms and conditions - summary 1. Apprenticeship Successful candidates will be offered an apprenticeship agreement, term time only, with the Corporation of Worthing College. The normal hours of work will be 37 per week. Work will predominantly be Monday to Friday although some weekend working may be required. In addition you will be required to attend additional sessions at the college to support your completion of the NVQ portfolio and additional study areas. This post is line managed by the Sports Performance Coordinator. 2. Apprentice Allowance The Apprentice allowance will be 95 per week for the first 12 months regardless of age. After 12 months apprentice rates are as follows Age 21+ Age 18-21 Age 16-17 5.93 per hour (219.41 per week) 4.92 per hour (182.04 per week) 3.64 per hour (134.68 per week)

Apprentice rates are normally increased in October annually, although such increases are not guaranteed. 3. Holiday entitlement This is a term time only post. Term dates are published annually in advance. In addition to payment for weeks worked you will be paid for leave entitlement as follows: Members of staff with less than 5 years' service receive salary calculated to include payment for 25 days annual leave days and 8 bank holidays (pro rata for part-time staff). Members of staff who have completed 5 years' continuous service as at 1 April in any leave year will receive salary calculated to include 30 days annual leave and 8 bank holidays (pro rata for part-time staff). 4. Pension Entitlement You will be eligible to join the Local Government Pension Scheme.

5. Notice Period Standard support staff contract terms apply, subject to length of service. 6. Pre-employment Checks This appointment is subject to satisfactory references, enhanced CRB and health checks and presentation of original qualification certificates. We will always obtain references prior to interview. Employment may not start until all the relevant checks have been completed and are satisfactory. 7. Probation A six month probationary period will apply to this post. 8. Other terms and conditions Standard support staff contract terms apply. 9.
