THE FIFTH SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST

PRAYER UPON ENTERING CHURCH
Almighty God, You live and reign from all eternity and there is no one like You. According to Your steadfast love and mercy You have redeemed me and made me Your child and heir and I am given peace through the forgiveness of my sins as only You alone can give. Grant me to worship You and You only, putting aside the things that capture not only my attention but my devotion. Guard and keep me in the true faith unto life everlasting. I pray this in Jesus holy name. Amen

WELCOME
Welcome to everyone gathered here this morning to begin your week strengthened by the Word of God. We are glad you are here today! Children are welcome in our Service and will be invited to come forward for the Childrens Message. You may accompany them if you would like. A nursery for infants and toddlers is located downstairs for those who have need. Restrooms are also downstairs in this building or across the bridge on this floor level before entering the fellowship hall. If you have any questions please ask one of our greeters or ushers. Please come and worship with us again!

HOLY COMMUNION
Holy Communion will be celebrated in the 10:45 Service today. In this sacrament we receive Christs very body and blood for the forgiveness of sins. Those who are not members of Grace are asked to speak with our Pastor before partaking of this sacrament so that the unity of faith might be established. Thank you for honoring this request.

AS WE GATHER
The first commandment is You shall have no other gods. Rarely do we think that idol worship is any real threat to our lives because we think of an idol as only some sort of inanimate statue or image. Today, Gods Word reminds us that an idol is any kind of false god, that is, anything we look to as the highest good in our life. We build our own idols or false gods whenever we seek comfort, fulfillment, or safety in the things or preparations of our own making. But when it comes to salvation and our final deliverance, only the one, true God who is revealed to us in Holy Scripture is able to help us. As the hymn says, My hope is built on nothing lessOn Christ, the solid rock, I stand; All other ground is sinking sand (LSB 575 stanza 1).

NEXT WEEKS READINGS - The appointed readings for next Sunday, July 24th, The Sixth Sunday after Pentecost: The Old Testament Reading: Deuteronomy 7:6-9, The Epistle Reading: Romans 8:28-39, and The Gospel Reading: Matthew 13:44-52.

P O Lord, our heavenly Father, almighty and everlasting God, You have safely brought us to the beginning of this day.
