ACADEMICS GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR CANDIDATES, APPLYING FOR ADMISSION TO PH.D. PRAGRAMME
1. As per advertisement given in the news paper, Candidates are required to apply online at www.ptu.ac.in. Applications for Ph.D. (Part-time) Programme, only for the following streams and disciplines are invited: S. Technology 2. Procedure to apply Online:
(i)
Click on the link and fill the basic information in the Registration columns (Name to be entered in Capital letters, strictly as per Matriculation Certificate only) and generate User Name and Password. After registration, mail will be sent automatically at the mail ID, entered by you, at the time of registration (please check your mail box, to ensure that whether you have entered correct mail id during registration). (ii) Log-in with your User Name and Password. (iii) Read Ph.D. Regulations (available at www.ptu.ac.in) carefully, before start filling the Online Application Form. (iv) After log-in, at Home, click at the link for filling-up the application form. (v) Fill your information in all the columns from Step 1 to Step 8, and click at Save before moving to next step. (vi) At step 2, select the Stream and Discipline, in which you want to apply for the Test. (vii) GATE / UGC-NET / JRF etc. Qualified candidates will have to fill all the Columns of Step 5(b) carefully, for taking Exemption from Entrance Test. The exemption from Test will only stand valid, if the candidate will produce the original Score Card at the time of Interview, later. (viii) Fee has to be deposited directly at any branch of HDFC Bank or State Bank of Patiala, as mentioned at step7. Do not fill anything in the Receipt No. (before making the payment) and Select the Bank and date, where and when, you are going to make the payment. (ix) Upload your latest photograph (size not more than 100kB) at step 8 and submit the application form by clicking at I Agree Submit Form. Form Preview will be visible after submitting the Form. (x) Note: After submitting Form, Candidate can make changes in the form, by again starting filling-up the form from Point (iv), as explained above. Click at Update to save the changes made, at each step. (xi) Take the Payment Slip Print-out by clicking at A/c Slip Print, deposit the fee in the selected bank and enter the receipt no. (if given by bank) in the online form at step 7 and update it. 1|Page

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS & QUESTION PAPER PATTERN FOR ENTRANCE TEST FOR ENROLMENT IN PH.D. i) Question papers of each discipline shall consist of 90 multiple choice (four alternatives) objective type questions carrying one mark each and will have to be attempted in 90 minutes. Around 20 questions will of research aptitude type and other 70 questions will be from respective core subjects containing fundamental & subjective aspects of the concerned discipline. Sample Papers are available at PTUs website www.ptu.ac.in Each question will have only one right answer. Question attempted with two or more answers will not be evaluated. There is no negative marking for wrong answers. Use of calculators is not allowed. Log tables may be provided for calculation work, if required.

viii) The medium of the examination is English only. ix) No sheet will be provided for the rough work. Reverse side of the question paper-cum-answer sheet can only be used for rough work. Carrying mobile phones, electronic gadgets, notes or extra papers in examination hall is not allowed.
