Cursillo is a lay Catholic movement providing a simple method for women and men to live and share a conscious and growing life of faith, hope and love in union with the Church. Through the power of the Holy Spirit the Cursillo Movement strives to bring about the Incarnation of Christ into all sectors of society. The weekend is a blend of seriousness, light-heartedness, spiritual exercises, talks and discussions. The weekend ends at the close of the three days.(Thursday evening thru Sunday late afternoon) The whole point of the movement is that ordinary people can steadily grow in the love and the service of God and humanity for the rest of their lives. Christian growth is not easy, but the weekend provides a framework for it, both during the three days and afterwards. In the Cursillo emphasis is on maintaining a vibrant and growing Christian community from which springs the apostolic action required to make ours a better world in which to live. The next upcoming weekend is July 28-31, 2011 for women. Further weekends are scheduled for the Fall. Contact Father Peter or Deacon Frank for further information and application.

Crucifix in Parish Life Center

A number of parishioners have asked me over these years, since our parish center was built, if I am going to put a crucifix in our parish life center. I saw this one at Wheaton Religious Gifts and Church Supply in Wheaton. It is only an idea. Do we need it? Would it be nice? The children may love to see the cross there. If you would like to give towards the crucifix, pray about it and let us know. Thank you to the Gonzalo family and to the Council of Catholic Women for their over $1000.00 donation towards the new electronics for our bell system. Thank you to the Friday Night prayer group and Grebis household, for donations to repair the speakers, prior to this last appeal. Isn't it so nice to hear the bells again. Before mass, the songs that are played remind us of the Holy Mass! Parish Life Center crucifix 48" tall for $1318.50 total Thank you for the many other ways individuals and families give from their hearts. The church bells and the crucifix are so important to our faith and our celebration . Fr. Peter Jarosz

Celebrate with Pope Benedict by Praying for Vocations

June 29 will mark the 60th anniversary of the priestly ordination of our beloved Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI, which took place on the Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul in 1951. This is a particularly appropriate occasion for us to rally around the Supreme Pontiff, to demonstrate to him our gratitude, our affection, and our communion with him, both in his service to God and to the Church and above all in that Truth which shines upon the world to which he continually calls us through his teaching. As a means of a spiritual observance of this anniversary in a way that would be pleasing to the Holy Father, each ecclesiastical circumscription is warmly invited, especially thought the participation of its priests, to offer 60 hours of Eucharistic Adoration in observance of the Holy Fathers 60th anniversary. These sixty hours, offered either continuously or divided across various days in the month of June, are intended for the sanctification of the Clergy and for obtaining from God the gift of new and holy priestly vocations. Sincerely in Christ, Mauro Cardinal Piacenza Prefect for the Congregation for the Clergy Dear fellow parishioners, As you read above, we are asked to pray in the presence of Jesus in the Eucharist for our Holy Father and for an increase of priestly vocations. This can be done during Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament on Thursdays, before and after daily and/or Sunday mass, or just coming to church and sitting quietly before Jesus in the tabernacle. In our busy, hectic lives, it is essential to take a time-out for our prayer life. Yes, you can pray at home. Yes, you can pray in your car. Yes, you can pray at work. God hears our prayers no matter where we are; but there is an intimacy when you pray at church in front of the Blessed Sacrament. It becomes a one-on-one conversation with our Lord. And once we get in the habit of praying in this way, our relationship with him grows. I urge you to take this opportunity to grow in your own faith, and to lift up the Church in your prayers. May the seed that is planted in so many of our brothers, grow in their hearts and lead them to saying yes to their calling. May God bless each and every one of us. Have a blessed Summer! A Fathers Prayer
Lord, I need your special care. Like your earthly father, Joseph, I want to do God's will, even if I may not always understand. Make me gentle and selfless in the care of my family and children; help me guide them in the toils and troubles, the happiness and wonders of this life. Like my Father in heaven, make me strong in love and forgiveness for those you entrust to my care. No one can do these things rightly, Lord, without your constant help and boundless mercy. Be with me always, and may I come to you in heaven, and all my family with me. Amen.

WE NEED YOUR VOLUNTEER HELP NOW. JUST 3 HRS. PER WEEK, CHOOSE YOUR SHIFT, TRAINING PROVIDED In 2010 our calls for assistance increased 23%. WHY??? Homeless families in DuPage County increased 24% in the period ending June, 2010. Most people who call us are working at minimum wage jobs. They hit a bump in the road and cannot pay their rent, utility bills, or car repairs. Also, they dont know what service agencies are available to help them. The average rent in DuPage County for a 2 bedroom apartment is $1,015 per month. A one bedroom apartment averages $903/per month. The hourly wage per household needed to live in a 2 bedroom apartment is $19.52/per hour. How many people earn this? No wonder the homeless rate has risen 24% in 2010 and our calls for help reflect this! Please consider volunteering at Loves Call-in Center in Westmont. Calling all Teens:

Prayer for Teenagers

With each new day that dawns I am growing up, O Lord. It's not too soon to start thinking of what I want to be. It's very hard, I think, to make the right decision but I pray that you will help and guide me. Show me what to do, let me share, someday, my talents where they're needed. And when you show me, give me courage to be generous enough to do what you want. Amen.

From a Parishioner: Reflections on the Early Learning Center

I was invited to attend the kindergarten graduation at the Early Learning Academy. We were thrilled to be included and wanted to let you know how wonderful these kids were. At five years old, they read stories, played the piano, recited rhymes. And when they showed us how they start their day with the Our Father and said the Pledge of Allegiance, let me tell you, I had tears in my eyes. They were so well behaved. Mrs. Placey and her staff are to be commended for the wonderful job they do. God willing, they will continue to do so.

Knights of Columbus Visitors to Our Parish July 9th 5:00 pm

Christ the King Parish will be host to the Illinois leadership of Knights of Columbus (K of C) at our 5:00 p.m. Mass on July 9, 2011; The installation of officers will take place after mass. All are welcome to witness this ceremony. The K of C organizational meeting will be taking place during the weekend at the Westin Hotel in Yorktown; and, there will be a formal banquet there on Saturday evening following Mass. All are welcome; those interested may make reservations by contacting Richard Spada at 630-932-9107. Bishop Joseph Siegel, Auxiliary Bishop of the Joliet Diocese and State Chaplain of the Illinois State Council, with Fr. Peter will be concelebrating Mass and officiating at the installation ceremony. We are also proud to announce that one of our very own parishioners, Richard Spada, will serve as the presiding officer (state deputy) for the State of Illinois. His theme for the year will be Preserving Our Past~Forging Our Future~Centered on the Eucharist The Knights of Columbus is a Catholic, Family Fraternal Service organization that has grown from several members in one council started by our founder and venerable Father Michael J. McGivney at St. Marys church in New Haven, CT in 1882 to now more than 14,000 councils and 1.8 million members throughout the United States, Canada, the Philippines, Mexico, Poland, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Panama, the Bahamas, the Virgin Islands, Cuba, Guatemala, Guam and Saipan. The Illinois State council is one of the large class jurisdictions with nearly 73,000 members from over 400 local councils throughout the state. Silver Rose Our parish will also be introduced to the Silver Rose which has travelled from Canada and throughout the United States. The Silver Rose is a program started by the official K of C youth organization, the Columbian Squires, with a contingent from Mexico several years ago. Blessed John Paul II declared Our Lady of Guadalupe to be the Patroness of the Americas. The Silver Rose commemorates that declaration and recalls the Churchs and K of C commitment to the defense of Life; and, so the rose program makes reference to One Life, One Rose. The Rose has travelled from Canada and throughout the United States and will enter Illinois on July 4, 2011. It will be introduced to Illinois as we begin the procession into our parish on Saturday, July 9, 2011.
