Cork Larry Nueberger English 101-103 27 July 2011 Nuremberg Laws In Germany, the Jewish population had proved themselves promising to the economic population as far as their entrepreneurial skills had showed. Since the Jews were proud of the fact they were living in Germany, they had gone as far as calling themselves Germans first and Jews second (C.Lisciotto). The Nazi government, being led under the influence of Hitler himself, had believed that the Jews were nothing more but an infestation to their beautiful country and felt the need to annihilate them from the German population. Hitler had believed the Germans had been placed in second compared to the Jews, because the Jews have lower standards then the Germans themselves. The Nazis felt that the Jews were barbaric citizens that really had no love to share except for their own selfish being. By 1935, a political party was established to begin the process of implementing anti-Jewish laws. There

had been a couple of individuals, such as Schacht and Wagner, who had voiced their concern. Seeing as how the Jews did not prove themselves to be a negative impact to the German environment they didnt see a need to create the laws against them.

Cork 1 Before long, the Nuremberg laws had been announced at the annual party rally in Nuremberg. The laws had consisted of two parts, The Law for the Protection of German Blood and German Honor and the second law, The Reich Citizenship Law. Basically, the first law enforced the fact that a Jew, or a non-Aryan, was not allowed to be involved with a German intimately or martially in any existing way at all. Also, German females under the age of 45 were forbidden to work in a non-Aryan home as a service maid. Non-Aryan individuals were not allowed to display the national flag or the Reich flag; however, they did have the leisure to display their own Jewish colors. Any individual caught breaking these set of laws were subject to punishment of hard labor and even jail. The second law consisted detail of Reich citizenship. This second set of laws stated that only a person who is a full blooded German and citizens who fit the profile of good conduct, and deserved the right to become a Reich citizen were allowed to apply for Reich citizenship. For it were only Reich citizens that were allowed full

political rights according to the state law. This affected of David Abrams in his younger years (radaris.com) course the entire Jewish population. The non-Aryan population was losing their human rights and faced ridicule left and right by the German population. Soon enough, Jews were not allowed to work. Businesses were taken away and sold by the Nazi government to German owners because Jewish individuals were not allowed business licenses. During an interview for the USC Shoah Foundation on YouTube, David Abrams (a Holocaust survivor) shares his experience through the Nuremberg times. Apparently, his father had lost the family

With no one willing to make them work, and with the business no longer theirs putting food on the table became the ultimate challenge for their family. Mr. Abrams also talked about how all Jews were required to wear the Star of David onto their coats in order to identify who was a Jew and who wasnt. He remembered watching his mother and how she had to sow on stars of David onto their coats. Despite Mr. Abrams young age the time, he knew that the law was just another joke made against his religion. Another incident of Mr. Abrams could remember was how his father had come home late one day flag at a specific time. Not flag hadnt been put up yet, the his home and beat Mr. Abrams rules. Brand, had shared during her Foundation on YouTube of suffered through the store when the Nuremberg mothers family business was

not allowed to sell the basic items in their store, such as flour, sugar and other commodities. In turn they had suffered a great loss of income. Mrs. Brand had commented that an individual had told her, you are Jewish, you cannot be trusted to explain why her family was not allowed to sell such simple things. School was another thing that was taken away from the Jews. NonAryan children were turned away from schools because of their religion. Mrs. Brand talked about how she wasnt allowed to attend her school anymore, but the government had put a new rule

Cork 1 saying that all Jewish children could go to school on the Sabbath day. This was another law that was recognized as a joke to the Jews. The reason behind was the fact that the Sabbath day was acknowledged as a day of rest, and school was not something for children to do on this day. An article provided by the Holocaust Education and Research Team writes about Hitler and his new laws. They had declared that all Jews had to have a specific name to each gender for identification purposes. All the males were named, Israel and all the females, Sara. On top of that all Jewish passports were stamped with a large red letter J just to further the process of identifying a Jew. It was one law after another that was placed against the non-Aryan population. The article stated, "Aryan" doctors could only treat "Aryan" patients. Provision of medical care to Jews was already hampered by the fact that Jews were banned from being doctors or having any professional jobs.nearly all Jewish companies had either collapsed under financial pressure and

declining profits, or had been persuaded to sell out to

the Nazi-German government, further reducing their rights as human beings; they were, in many ways, effectively separated from the German populace. (holocaustresearchproject.org) It was one law after another enforced by Hitler to where the Jews were punished financially for their "race." Jeanette Kaufmann had written a statement in 1945 as a Jewish intern and had submitted her statement to Cpt. Stanley Levitt. Her statement consisted of many things regarding the holocaust. In one part of her essay, she talked about her time during the Nuremberg Laws. Her family had made an effort to leave the country after she and her husband

Cork 1 were no longer allowed to work. Not to mention the fact that her kids had been turned away from the schools. Practically all of the familys savings had gone into what turned out to be phony visas. At that point, her final sentence had been, then started the days of

evil. To try and imagine being forced to live at such a level of ridicule yet maintain the ability to still hold onto tradition and hope is flabbergasting. To be mistreated at a consequence of being a specific race is difficult to justify now in the 21st century. Information based on an essay from holocaust-history.org, a trial was prepared by the Allies against the 22 individuals and seven groups responsible for creating the Nuremberg Laws shortly after WWII. Because there was a countless number of evidence available against the defendants, the only evidence that was deemed worthy to utilize at trial were the words of the officials on trial themselves. The trial itself was broken down into three steps. At first and foremost, the Allies had to establish rules for the trial. The defendants were allowed attorneys, the leisure of providing evidence on their behalf as well as the benefit of calling witnesses. They were not allowed the right to a jury though. Four of the crimes they were being charged with were, 1. Conspiracy against Peace 2. Crimes against Peace 3. War Crimes 4. Crimes against Humanity

Cork 1 After several steps and debates from the trail the result had been the acquitting of 14 individuals and death sentences for 12 individuals. The remaining group were hung by the end date of Oct. 1946. Justice was a long process as far as the court was concerned against individuals responsible for the holocaust epidemic. According to the essay on holocausthistory.org, there were trials that went on as late in 1965. Before long the Allies had given the responsibility of trial to Germany. Although the holocaust had a great number of deaths placed in their timeline, there was the uncanny measurement of hope and faith that still existed amongst the Jews. Living in a world where nothing is what people say it is, actions from the holocaust still help define the understanding of racism. Families were lost but lessons have been learned.
