Our team is committed to environmental improvements within both our business and our lives. We believe that every little bit helps, no matter how small the offering. We are committed to trying to make a difference, while ensuring that our commitment to provide our guests with excellent service and product is not compromised.
Paradise Point Resort & Spas Housekeeping Department operates with water
conservation in mind, utilizing a standard 3rd day wash cycle for guestroom sheets and pillowcases. Our Housekeeping Attendants only clean with Green Seal Certified bathroom cleaners
and Green Seal carpet care solutions We have implemented a refillable dispenser system in our guestroom bathrooms for
shampoo, conditioner and shower gel to eliminate individual packaging waste. It is estimated that, worldwide, hotels dispose of more than 10 billion partly-used individually-packaged bars of soap and bottles of liquids every year! Our guest baths feature low flow toilets and shower heads
We break down all cardboard boxes and utilize our cardboard baler to bundle the
cardboard and deliver it to a Recycle Center Our green waste is collected separately to be recycled. We encourage Employees to conserve paper by not printing as many reports, property-
wide information, and other documents We use Compact Fluorescent Lighting throughout the Property and limit the use of indoor
and outdoor lighting when possible Our Engineering Team, Bellmen, Guest Recreation Staff and Security Officers utilize
either Electric Carts or Bicycles We are fortunate to be on a 44 acre lush, island paradise with over 450 different types of
carbon-monoxide converting plants and flowers which can only help our environment. While these are just a few examples of our commitment to helping the environment, we are always looking to do more.
In recognition of the need to preserve the world in which we operate and serve our guests, Destination Hotels & Resorts is dedicated to practices and programs that pay respect to, and lessen our footprint on, our changing environment.
As the fourth largest independent hospitality management company in the country, we are committed to creating a new benchmark for our hotels and resorts through a series of environmental initiatives, both on the corporate level and at each of our individual properties.
All properties in the Destination Hotels & Resorts collection have implemented over 100 environmental initiatives since the inception of the Destination Earth program in January 2008. The eco-friendly program elements include decreasing energy and water usage, reducing waste, increasing recycling and composting, and purchasing local and organic food and beverages when possible.
Additionally, a Green Meetings program was launched throughout all properties in late 2009 in an effort to maximize waste diversion from meetings and conferences and to increase overall environmental awareness among hotel guests.
Audio/Visual Batteries, light bulbs and printer and copier toner cartridges are recycled. Landscaping Terranea Resort nearly fifteen acres of restored native habitat areas. Strict attention has been paid to reinforcing the biodiversity and integrity of this ecosystem through the native plant pallet. This native plant material is locally cultivated from a Palos Verdes seed bank and grown by the Palos Verdes Land Conservancy. Also, approximately 45 mature trees, remnants of Marineland, were preserved and replanted throughout the property. Of the 102 acres of the site, only 25% is covered by impervious surfaces (i.e., building or paving), leaving roughly 75 acres of green space. Golf Course The golf course's daily flows from irrigation water are treated in vegetated channels called Bioswales. Bioswales are essentially created wetlands which contain plant species known for their ability to remediate polluted water and soil through sedimentation, filtration, absorption, and vegetative uptake. In addition to enhancing water quality, they also provide habitat for many avian and aquatic species. The use of pesticides and fertilizers will be limited to those which are either organic in nature or those which have no residual effect.
CORPORATE PRACTICES
We are proud to have a "Destination Earth" taskforce, comprised of leaders throughout the organization and representing hotel and resort operations, to ensure that all departments and associates of Destination Hotels & Resorts are personally involved and committed to the program. Each of our properties has a designated "green team" onsite and has made a commitment to pursuing:
organic, environmentally friendly- and recycled supplies, whenever possible. Purchasing fresh and sustainable foods locally grown, whenever possible.
