(Myrtle Beach, SC) Conservative 5th-term South Carolina State Representative Thad Viers (R-68) today announced that he will run for Congress in South Carolinas new 7th Congressional District. Viers, an unapologetic fiscal conservative from Myrtle Beach, was the only member of the Horry County Delegation, and 1 of only 7 total in the State House of Representatives, to vote AGAINST South Carolina taking President Obama's stimulus money.

The Pee Dee deserves a principled conservative leader who will go to Washington focused on the next generation and not the next election, said Viers. I would have proudly stood with South Carolinas conservative congressional delegation in opposing an increase in the national debt ceiling. We have to stop Washingtons reckless spending spree if were ever going to get our economy back on track. I firmly believe we do not have a revenue problem in Washington, we have a spending problem, and its time to start making real changes, continued Viers. For far too long the federal government has tried to replace God in the church and parents in the home. Now, government wants to spend all of your money and demands a thank you for doing so. Ill work with South Carolinas conservative congressional delegation to make sure that doesnt happen. Thad Viers will bring to Washington a passion for impacting public policy through free-market solutions and a belief that the government that governs least, governs best. In Congress, Thad will work to increase economic development in the Pee Dee region of South Carolina by promoting an agenda of lower taxation, less regulation, and getting government out of the way so South Carolina businesses can thrive and employ more people. Below please find additional biographical information on Thad Viers. For more information or to schedule an interview, please contact Jill Kelso at (843) 543-0180, or by e-mail at jill@thadviers.com. About Thad Thad Viers grew up in Socastee, South Carolina, off of Highway 814 in Ammons mobile home park. In high school, he started a teenage Republican club before becoming an office intern for the late Senator Strom Thurmond. In 1995, Thad graduated from Socastee High School and then matriculated to The Citadel to pursue a Marine Corps commission where he was awarded a 3-year academic scholarship. After an injury in Officer Candidates School, the Marine Corps was no longer an option. In 1999, he went to work at the Heritage Foundation where he served with Jack Spencer, now a senior fellow at the Heritage Foundation, on the ABM Missile Treaty Project. After the completion of the project, Thad returned to South Carolina to become the District Field Representative for former Congressman Henry Brown. In 2002, Thad was elected to the South Carolina State House of Representatives. While working as a State Representative he also attended law school at the University of South Carolina. He graduated in 2007 and is currently a practicing attorney. Thad is currently in his 5th term as a State Representative and currently serves as Majority Whip. Thad also serves on the Judiciary Committee where he is Chairman of the General Laws

subcommittee and a member of the I-73 study committee. Thad is proud to have been on the 2008 conference committee that wrote South Carolinas anti-illegal immigration law and has been the primary sponsor or co-sponsor of many pieces of pro-business tort reform legislation during his tenure. In 2010, Thad successfully sued the City of Myrtle Beach in the State Supreme Court for an unconstitutional law requiring motorcyclists to wear helmets within the city limits. Thad was also the only member of the Horry County Delegation, and 1 of 7 total in the State House of Representatives, to vote AGAINST South Carolina taking President Obama's stimulus money. He holds a lifetime "A" rating from the National Rifle Association and has consistently been endorsed by the South Carolina Club for Growth. In 2011, Thad was the only member of the South Carolina House of Representatives to receive the South Carolina Association of Taxpayers "Friend of the Taxpayer" award for "supporting spending caps, school choice, transparency in voting, and reducing the ability of municipalities to annex property in violation of property rights." Thad has been endorsed for the past five election cycles by the South Carolina Citizens for Life and is the only member of the Horry County delegation to consistently sign the Americans for Tax Reform "Taxpayer Protection Pledge." Thad has also been consistently endorsed by school choice groups for his support of tuition tax credits, charter schools, and the ability for parents to make choices in their children's education. An unapologetic fiscal conservative, Thad believes in competition, economic development, market-based reforms, limited growth in government and spending, and tax cuts to grow our economy. He has always promoted the conservative ideals of less government, lower taxes, constitutional gun rights, family values, and the principles of liberty and American exceptionalism. Thad firmly believes as Thomas Jefferson did, that "the government that governs least governs best." -30-
